I think the song implies that we are all guilty of playing the part of Hate at some juncture in our lives, but in spite of this Love forgave us and persisted with patience and understanding. The least we can do is acknowledge this and see how undeserving we are, and replicate the beauty of this seemingly illogical cycle that happens in our peculiar little existence.

Is he losing his voice as in throat cancer, or just having a raspy day during this show? Love the raspiness - it just makes this the definitive version.

I realized one day that things that are considered vocal flaws sometimes actually make a person's voice more human and interesting. Take Emmylou Harris - her voice cracks a lot, but that's one reason I love her singing so much.
