  • Octave was an underwhelming reunion effort from Moodies. Justin's ballads were effective as usual & Level With You is a solid tune but Slide Zone is one of their weakest hits, Ray's 2 contributions are forgettable, Top Rank Suite sounds as awkward today as it probably did in 1978, & Moody-style epic numbers on side 2 sound more like ELO imitations than bold & exciting compositions on those 7 classic albums. Their 1980s stuff was very inconsistent but had more memorable moments than Octave.

  • Ok, I am the one Justin sings about, pretty sure. My daughter took me to see them live in KC for Mothers Day, Fantastic to this day! Was supposed to meet Justin next to my car, but had to leave. Maybe next time!

  • What great Harmonies! I loved this tune, and still do!

  • And there was I, hearing this song for the first time while going to the Hastings Grammar School in 1978 as a proper Dutchie! Missed this version, but I was back in Eindhoven by Summer 1979, alas. Still love the Moody Blues and Justin Haywayrd, especially after having listened to Justin's efforts on War of the Worlds in the dark, in our house on 13 Lower Park Road, so eerie but wonderful!

  • Hard to believe that Justin is turning 65 in October.....He still sounds as amazing today as he did then......I can never make up my mind but I think that this track is my all time favourite....although if you ask me in a month I will have probably changed my mind. Too many excellent songs recorded by this exceptional band to choose just one, right? :-)

    Thanks for posting this.

  • i love you forever andever and ever and ever...i would take care of you forever and tavel everywhere with you...love ya too john! the whole band...sending love from america...

  • Timeless.

  • I think it is safe to say, ....that we women have been " in Love " with both Justin and John...the only two devoted husbands of the Moody Blues....how awesome is that !!!! With the liffe style they lead...High five for the wives...!!

  • Happy Birthday John...many Blessings....

  • Five people think Justin Beiber is awesome. How sad.

  • Remember that Justin has millions of adoring women fans, Jusfriend1. I know just how you feel though, he is simply adorable, handsome, and divine.!!!!!! I have been in love with him and his music, for well over 30 years now.......no one can take his place for me!!!!! "Had To Fall In Love" is yet another very beautiful love song, penned by the master. Excellent video and sound quality. Much love Angie.~#~ K.

  • All you Sweeties can HAVE Justin...Just save that JOHN LODGE for ME!!!

Oh Yeah!!! I'd love to get my hands tangled in that hair!!

  • @son2muzic

Would love to get my hands in that hair too! I have loved John for a million years!

  • .....i just H A D to fall in love..........

  • such romantic looks and very very touching songs...not vain, just well groomed , but ....oh the music!

  • The Moodies never wanted to be 'worshiped' for their music. They claimed to be just a Rock band. However, they were 'used' by God to provoke a higher understanding of many things. In this particular song, they speak to Love that is worth waiting for...forever if that be the case....Wait.

  • This song is my reminder of how wonderful my life is!

  • mmmmmm lovely!

  • 5 dislikes, more Bieber infiltrators:)

  • I love this song!

  • O! Wolf! I love this video still...Thank you again for posting this! I keep coming back to it! I just can never get enough! I love it so!!! I love our Justin and think he is the most beautiful and talented man in all the heavens. Gosh! I have loved this voice and this man for around 40 years. I do not ever want to change that! His voice brings me such a peace as I have never known with any other singer, and The Moodies music has seen me through many storms in my troubled sea of life! Hugs!

  • Beautiful man, with a beautiful voice, singing a beautiful song! I Love you Justin! :) x

  • Mike pinder must have left the group by this time.

  • @hereinthebronx he left in the middle of this album octave with a slight controversy the group said in the legend of a band rockumentary that he left because he couldnt take people climbing through windows to ask him the meaning of the cosmos but he said he always socialized with fans he thought the album wasnt strong enough to tour with .

  • @spacepatrolman Thank you

  • @hereinthebronx Right before this video he departed. Justin and John had to finish the keyboards for the album Octave because of this.

  • excelente rola....... me recuerda los dias de otoño

  • I won Octave in a Sunday morning radio station contest. This is one of my favorite tunes from the album. Nice video, too.

  • Had To Fall In Love is song with the to-the-point clarity of technical writing; this is a kudos: compliment of the highest order. The big difference here is that tech writing is what you want to read (or hear) only once, whilst this song wants to be heard forever, at least. This slow, voluptuous beauty, this soft subtle magic, this evocative experience of Justin's heart becomes our heart, a universal heart for humans, all creatures: plants, animals, rocks, & rivers great & small.

  • @davidfaubion when you say technical writing do you mean non fiction like writing a book about spy satellites?and song writing is fiction like a novel?

  • @spacepatrolman Thanks for your question (so I'm back to hear this gem). No, tech writing is non-fiction; it the writing that comes with your gadgets; writing that tells how to use, assemble, dispose of, modify ... Tech writing is concise, precise, coherent, explicit writing; you get it the first time you read or you never will. Had to fall in Love, IMHO, is a technical writing of love song: no mincing words, to the point, you get it: true love, or you never will: truth & beauty & passion

  • Sweetness... sweet Jesus... Who needs desert? We have the freshest Moody Delicioso Delights (R) you will ever hear! Spicy too, with ginger 'n cinnamon swirls sweet sorrow: misty falling leaves of luscious love, lovely colors and textures -- Hard to pick a favorite, they are all sooo sweet, tasty, tasteful beyond imagination, well, no not that far ... seriously loving the song, never stop, cannot get enough of this sweet stuff ...

  • such a nice song!

  • Justin is such a gorgeous, gorgeous man!! And what a voice!! A voice of an angel!! It just peirces your heart with its beauty!! Justin just melts my heart for sure!! Love him!! The Moodies are of pure brilliance!! Pure beauty!! ILY Justin!! The Moodies forever my friends!! ♥

  • come up with any dream and life, fornunately, is our own dream!!!!

  • great song and music the boys can't go wrong

  • Justin's been married forever, like since before he joined the group!

  • @jimbowie09 Actually, he got married in '69

  • how could someone dislike this video?!?!?!!

  • Magnifico!!!! Thanks for posting ...special memories of Octave.

  • I recently got Octave. It's a great album, should be up there with the first seven!

  • beautiful...

  • These guys are so good!

  • Love how this song just falls into it's mellow groove.

  • Comment removed

  • I know the original writer of this song from the late sixties...he didnt want to be credited...he still is a special person with a wonderful soul...

  • How great they are

  • Justin is just amazing!! His voice is so entrancing and he is so gorgeous!! What an amazing man indeed!! And The Moody Blues, what a beautiful and magical band that just captures your soul . I feel so lost in their music. It takes me to another place full of happiness and innocence. What a truly phenomenal band! The Moodies are timeless! Their music still touches souls today as it did back then. They are truly amazing in every aspect. Just beautiful!! <3

  • This video was evidently made during the tour. Mike had left the band following the recording of it and, as you can see, he is absent from this video. But his background vocals are ever so present. Miss you Mike. The band lost so much when you left. It became the Hayward-Lodge Band.

  • sweetest song ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very good song and high quality video.

  • Justin's voice always makes me zone out. I can't seem to focus on anything except that. But I will say, John looks very nice in this video.

  • I bought this album when it was released. What memories.

    Pure genius.

Used to listen to their album A Question Of Balance on an old record player when it was released. Trully magical album.

It's just not the same anymore.

  • So beautifull !!!! I'm a 26 brazilian girl and just LOVE it... I've got marriage with talking out turn playing, it was so lovely !!! thanks for the post.

  • @clarinhanatel Yes that was a great song also. One of my favorites.

  • This Song is my favorite on Octave. I love the Moody Blues. They are the greatest band ever.

  • There is magic in Justin's voice, and SO much beauty in his soul! I love Justin so!

  • Justin and the Moodies are just awesome---Gods of late 20th century popular music.

  • To my one and only Marie P,P,P Love always D-Knight Derek XXX

  • My dearest Lenochka, i think you know this song echoes what is in my heart for you.... Я должен был влюбиться love always, your Manny

  • I like this band a lot ever since I heard their music from their first album "The Days of Future and Past up to this 8th album "Octave". Ray Thomas and Justin are superb in writing songs and the sounds they make. I hope I could hear some of their songs they created in the 70's and 80's..

  • @MrJune610 You will find lots here on youttube

  • @julesmoody Thanks! I really appreciated that coz the moment I hear the sounds of their music as if my spirit is being lifted up and carried away by a soundwave to a place somewhere in the universe. Sometimes I wonder if these people (the moody blues) are angels sent by God for whatever purpose He had in mind. Calling?!. I think so.

  • OK...Let's get the Moody Blues into the RRHOF! If we all comment at sites like 'rate it all' and 'future rock legends' they can't ignore us for long!

  • Beautifull song! Relaxing music.

  • Justin Hayward makes me so horny.

  • In my opinion, Octave was the best album the Moodie did....amongst all that incredible music, this one was my all-time favorite.

  • Ask and ye shall recieve...BLESS YOU for posting this!

  • Two words..."Moody Blues."

  • Why this music is not being made any longer? Many reasons, yes. The world changed, dreams changed so did expectations. Is there less hope or love or illusion in music today ?

  • @tubellarbells Honest to goodness, I have tried to listen to the current pop music, but it is simply awful. It has no harmony, no pathos, and no dignity. I am excluding some current folk, country, and international music from this appraisal. (And, classical music is a world unto itself.) But the music called "hip hop" and all of its variants is profoundly nihilistic & execrable. It is one reason why record (CD, etc.) sales have plummeted.

  • What album is this from?

  • Octave!

  • Beautiful song.

  • Look how young they are there...I have seen @ least 15 of their concerts but was never fortunate enough to see them perform this one...

    Rock on Moodies...

  • @ucrazydiamondu lucky i always loved them havent had the opportunity to see them once.

  • OCTAVE

  • Im 23, and i just heard this song on the radio and im so in love with it!

  • i love this song i play the tenor sax the flute and harmonica

  • I was 17 when I bought the vinyl record in '78 and I've still got it. One of my favourite songs of all time.

    Tezza

  • Simplesmente maravilhosa esta cadencia musical, uma harmonia perfeita. Do melhor que temos ouvido e visto. The Great Moody Blues! Forever!

  • I wish this song was played at my wedding.

  • I love Ray's harmonica on this track. Like him, I play both flute and harmonica.

  • @goldheartbadge if you can sing his songs you could get a job with them since he left they havent been doing his songs

  • everytime when the line begins with 'in the mirror.. ' I really become more happier.. fantastic line wich makes the whole song great :D

  • This song exemplifies everything good about Justin Hayward's talent. It ranks up there with 'The Actor' as one his best,

  • great tune by the moody blues..... wish they could play like this every consert.

  • one of my fav bands.......but this just sounds ok......more of a meditative song i guess.

  • my fave song. just great stuff. good song to play for my girlfriend

  • Justin is SO beautiful! But why do I feel so sad when I think of him? Is it because I want him and need him so much? I don't know. All I know is I get teary-eyed whenever I think of Justin. I love Justin so!

    Love, Jusfriend1

  • @Jusfriend1 :

I know what you mean, I need him to,....I don't know how I would make it through graduate school without doses of Justin and John and the rest....

  • @Jusfriend1 Oh dear, you've caught the Justin bug too...It will never go away. I had it for years...and I don't want it to go away!!

  • @Jusfriend1

Justin Hayward is an angel sent to earth for us humans to hear, see and enjoy. he is perfection.

  • @Jusfriend1 This would make good background music for a shake n bake commercial! oh btw Hayward hires people to keep nuts like you away from him. cry about that !

  • so underrated as an album!! god i miss the 70's

  • @blkmanbat

def underrated---very interesting album.-I didnt like the 80s Moodys as much

  • love this song

  • Supreme tune.

  • Had to fall in love with the Moodys. Been a fan for 40 years. How could anyone not love their music.

  • Man do i miss ray thomas playing the harmonica and flute when they sold out the fillmore east for 3 days straight in 1969 they had an interview with him in the window explaining how the group got together on the album to our childrens children .

  • Seems to me the measure is how the heart responds to the Moody's . For they truly are the cardiac kids !

  • Well said!

  • this is my favorite song by them

  • Never heard a harmonica in a Moody Blues song before.

  • Love this song and love Justin

  • dit is het beste van het beste of nie dan moody blues rules

  • first and last time i heard it was on the radio 20 years ago.. a fond thanks for posting it, beautiful rendition, great audio/video quality

  • Love love love this song!! Thanks for posting!

  • edorevis, thank you. You have my deepest sympathy, such news is devastating. You and your wife are in my thoughts and prayers. She'll always be with you as long as you have this song. Peace be to you.

  • Thank you Titus. I was fortunate to see the Moody Blues in a similar dutch show performing Singer in a Rock 'n Roll band.

That's why it is even more meaningful to me: "The places I've seen, and the road in between". Make the best of it, Titus

  • I don't know if you received an answer from me that I just now sent, it doesn't appear in the comments section.

Anyway, I've been blessed to see and hear the Moodies five times. The last in 2000 in Portland, OR. IMHO it was their best!!! I've noticed, and I'm sure many others have as well, that all of the MB songs have such tremendous meaning. Peace to you and your wife.

  • jjusttt so beautiful.. words and music from heaven...

  • thanks for bringing back the bittersweet memories...

  • This was my late wife's favorite song! It touched us both as we, too, were searchers until we found each other - "The writing on the wall..." and we had to fall in love with each other. God, I miss her!

  • You have my deepest sympathy at the loss of your wife, I too have a special memory of my late mother and best friend who bought this album for

me in 1978 and this is the song that reminds me of such a special woman.

  • I'm sorry .. you must've loved her alot...

  • merrilee53, thank you so much. She'll be gone 13 years next month. And, you know, I still expect her to walk around a corner like she used to do...so much life, love, and beauty! Such a sorrow that she was taken from me. Thanks again.

  • My wife is recently diagnosted with terminal cancer. A year ago I had send this song as a link to her. She replied that watched it about 4 times, and had cried for an hour. May all the strength be with you, Titus

  • I am very sorry...

  • what album is this from please?

  • The song is from "Octave", 1978.

  • @redbaron863 some promotinal copys of octave were issued with a timming sheet for djs pasted on the front page

  • @julesmoody Yeah it was Octave album when they got back together sadly Mike Pinder did the album then left the band hence the four man line up, Patrick Moraz was brought in to take up the keyboards on the following tour then and went on to play on the bands albums over the next 15 years.

  • @julesmoody

Yes, it was Octave. I sat 17th row at Chicago Stadium in 1979 for this concert. I fell in love for the 1st time there while this song and others the album played. I'll never forget, at one point, I stood during a song and looked around at the folks there on the main floor. Everyone was glued to the stage with their jaws dropped. It was a magical night and an awesome album.

  • I'd say the reason John isn't singing harmony in the video is because it's Mike Pinder's part, and in reverence to him Justin sings alone. I'm just glad Mike was on this record, even though he quit the band before they started doing press. Long live TMB

  • That is so beautiful...wouldn't you know it....it comes when you least expect it and everything is, or seemingly in an upheaval.

    ILUJ

  • the greatest group ever and still going. a moodies fan since 1967.

  • To all the Moody band members past and present, LOVE YOU ALL!!! To all my fellow Moodies out here, love you too!!! ;)

  • As far as the founder of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Jann Wenner, former foundation director Suzan Evans, and writer Dave Marsh, being the effete snobs they are and their undue arrogance over who should and shouldn't get in to the RRHOF, f**k them AND the RRHOF!!! The Moody Blues are BETTER than the RRHOF!!! All they use it as is a way to self gratify their own humungous egos! If they had any real talent of their own, they would probably be shut out of the RRHOF too... lol

  • Sort of like fellows who start lirtle league baseball teams so heir kids could play who couldn'"t otherwise...instead of doing it out of altruism or civic mindedness...eh?

    Tom in Utica

  • Brings tears to my eyes almost everytime.

  • I agree and in many different halls of fame all over the world and in my world , THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME!!

  • When will this Legend of a Band be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, There time is way over due

  • Wow, rare video and in great shape! Has this been officially released? Classic-era Moodies is so sadly sparse.

  • Some of the best love ballads of all time came from The Moody Blues.

  • I wholly agree with you regarding recognition of the Moodies collectively and individually. In the U.K. we have an honours system that rewards the most talentless no marks with OBE's and MBE's. In my view the guys should have been recognised years ago.

  • Yes, I think they have been underrated throughout their long career together. They deserve much more - a brilliant group indeed! Regards from Bulgaria!

  • it makes me sad that my generation doesn't have great bands and music like this...music today is just crappy...

  • waht ever hapend to ray

  • Who would like to support me to get The Moody Blues, i.c. Justin Hayward honoured by a NOBEL MUSIC PRIZE in 2009?? If support for my initiative is substantial, I'd like to spend quite some hours to realize that dream. I think they deserve such an honour because of their top class music for decades and more than one generation of countless people.

    Jan Goeijenbier (Rotterdam, Holland)

  • the moody blueszijn super. De beste band ooit! Echt super en we luisteren bijna niet naar andere muziek liefs van een moody blues fan uit Veen

  • this is my favorite moodys song !!!!!

  • so nice aaah!

  • I wish that Ray was still with them.

  • there's no words this song is just amazing the moodies is one of the greatest band

  • e saber que eu era apenas um garoto qd eles faziam tanto sucesso.....linda musica e eles tem tantas assim com essa qualidade

  • i love the moody blues music .i have every album theyve made . 40 yrs n counting . long live their music

  • Very emotional song, very strong brought in Holland then in 1978!! Thank you redbaron

  • Beautiful song, first time I've heard that one. Rolling Stone Mag and R&R Hall of Fame would have you believe that Rock music is about sneering, drinking whiskey and shtuping 16 year old groupies, and tour breaks are for rehab. The Moodies have always been snubbed by the "too cool" crowd because their airiness, feyness and elegance embarasses people atracted to density.

Sing on, you voices in the sky, and thank you :-)

  • Well said.

  • A world full of Moodies...I like the thought of that !

  • MMMM me too! Especially Justin. He's so gorgeous. I would love to be on a desert island with him!

  • Why in Sam hill aren't they in the Rock and Roll hall of fame?

  • Yes, Justin's voice is angelic. And so is his soul. He is the most underrated singer-songwritier of the 20th Century. The Moody Blues are the most underrated band of the 20th Century. If everyone bought all their albums, listened to them, and put those ideas into practice, our world, our country, and our lives would be a better place to be.

  • Great Promo Video for the Octave Album (1978)...it's too bad they took so many years off.

To Ray >>> One cool talented musician. You are missed !!

  • I agree absolutely with you. As a musician, I think The Moody Blues is one of the most talented bands of all times. Its music has no comparison. Moreover, the integrants have angel and are great musician. Someday, when they dye, people will remember this band as it should be.

  • OMG Justin was such a sweet looking guy.And he still is.

  • Love the harmonica piece....

  • JUSTIN HAYWARDS VOICE IS ANGELIC

  • his voice makes me happy.

    love

  • "Had to fall in love" with his songs ^^

  • I am always totally blown away!

  • Justin's voice makes me fall to pieces.

  • Excellent!

  • One of my faves By the Moodies. If you sing this to a Girl and she doesn't like it.....Leave her she isnt good enough for you. lol

  • Moodys ..... Long Distance Voyagers.....This Voyage....Love.... Your Destiny.....I Am Beguiled.....

  • I've always loved this song, and the album - the first I ever bought for myself of the MB. It holds some very special memories. It's funny how you notice details later on about songs, like the vocal harmony, with Mike's deeper vocal tones blending beautifully with Justin's. You notice this especially during the first verse. A shame this was Mike's last album with the band. I really missed his contribution and influence in subsequent albums

  • I wish I could say the same. This was also the first Moody Blues album I bought. However, much as I love the Hayward, Lodge and Thomas stuff from 1967 onwards, I can't say I missed Pinder when he left and was glad for the update that Patrick Moraz and Justin and John's subsequent compositions gave the band in 80s.

  • patrick moraz soslo albums are great

  • I've been a Moodies fan since 1966 when they came out with the "Boulevard de la Madelaine" single. Yes, as an American I have to hand it to you English, there is no camparison to the Who, the Stones, or the Moody Blues, and no comparison to this love song.

  • Moodygal51 you summed it up best on how I feel about Justin.. Beautiful indeed oh how my heart aches.

  • stunning

  • How do you write a love song masterpiece ?

    This is how.

  • so very good so very english makes me proud
