  • I have a D3000 is it worth upgrading to D300 for a sports photography

  • Gertrudes

  • Nice work. Good review, and a cool camera! i love it! And this camera is great for Time Lapse Photography too! you just need this device: tempusALL.bymac.org

I got very professional time-lapse videos with camera! cool sunset videos!

  • This demonstrated a good quality camera

  • why compare these 2 cameras, they are 2 different animals?

  • Nikon D300 price and review on

    nikon d300 price .net

  • hello om upgrading like the person below

im upgrading from a d60 (i know it has nothing to do wiv the video but you guys are called "what digital camera" so i thought it would be a good idea to ask you guys)

what camera would you recommend to upgrade from less than £800

    thanks

  • im upgrading and i cant decide between the nikon d7000 or the d300, should i spend more on the newer camera or save money on the older camera.

  • I am to buy one in a few months, if D400 comes so i'm going to save for the D400

  • Couple of questions about the D300.

1.is it worth £400 more than the D200?

2.in the video the D200 looks slightly beefier-is it really?

3.(this one is probably silly) Does the D300 and the D200 both have aperture priority modes and if so how do you access them

    Thank you for your help

  • @eLiTea5Sa5SIN I doubt you would even find a new D200 now, it was discontinued ages ago. I can't tell you if the D300 is worth £400 more, because its all relative. It might be to you, if you need the extra resolution and features. Also £400 is a bigger deal to some people than others. The D200 is a great camera which produces good pictures in most conditions for prints up to A4. Its not as fast, or good in low light, as the D300 though.

  • @WhatDigitalCamera Thanks for the response.

Assuming they were the same price... D200 or D90

  • @WhatDigitalCamera Thanks for the response.

Assuming they were the same price... D200 or D90 ?

  • Respond to this video... PS: Both cameras have Aperture Priority (and other modes) accessed by pressing the mode button on the top and rotating the thumb wheel.

  • hello Sir..wanna know about lenses...id like to buy the d300s,,and the free lense is a/f 18-85mm..bt i wanna shot a snap shot,,,and a sport wanna know whats the best Sir..am soory about mah english am not good of it,,,thank you,,looking forwrd to your adviced S ir..

  • its not a consumer camera! its professional its just on the bottom line of the pro cameras

  • why buy a camera and just take pictures. buy a 9 in one and take picture, video, listen to mp3's, mp4's, voice recording, webcam, mass storage all in one!

  • @cameraman1512

D300 is built for a Semi-Pro or enthusiast photographer. What for if an enthusiast photographer have so called "user friendly scene modes". I considered my self as an Enthusiast photographer. I know everything about my SLR. Taking night portrait, landscape, close up or etc would be that hard for me.

  • eos 7d

    nikon d90

    nikon d300

which to choose, kids play sports and we go on beach vacations alot...can't decide!!!

  • d90 the reason being is, the d300 only let you use P,S,A.M modes and does not have the user friendly scene modes. these are really use full for lets say a day on a beach an u don't want to use manual modes. but if you have no issue with this i would suggest the d300 it is a very fast camera allowing amazing sports photography

  • The P mode beats all scene modes in all areas... the scene modes are more than unecessary even for amteurs. Well thats my opinion as a photographer but i realize different photographers have different opinions. But i would recommend the D90 as well because the D90 and D300 are very similliar in performance and quality. The d300 is onlt faster.

  • i think d90

  • can this camera record hd video?

  • No, but the new update, the D300s, does at 720p. It has a mic port too for audio.

  • @WhatDigitalCamera A real photographer don't need or want recording...

  • @orion9k a real photographer knows how to speak properly.

  • @WhatDigitalCamera So does the new update work for all D3000's to record video? sorry i really could not follow your comment

  • @blaze117 The D300S is an updated version of the D300, with 720p video added. It is a new camera, not a firmware update. The D3000 does not do video, and there is no D3000S model

  • @WhatDigitalCamera thanks very much, i misread the video title. But thanks very much, i've come back here for a lot of camera reviews, thanks for all your help!

  • I depends on the effect you are hoping to achieve. Sometimes i want the sun directly behind the subject but generally I shoot with the sun behind me or to the side, slightly behind the lens curve. Practice and see what you prefer at various times of the day.

  • THNKSS

  • can anyone one plz answer this question for me.

    for ex.

when u are taking a pic of a tree or any object. should the sun be behind the object or should the sun be behind u??

    what difference will it make

    thnks

  • depends if you want a silhouette type photo or not

  • @ilovetyping behind you to light the subject from the front

  • can i have the old D200 please?

  • No entendi nada, pero la tengo que comprar porque me gusta la fotografia y la necesito.

  • Yo pienso tu deber aprender sobre fotografia antes de comprar esto camara.

  • Good info in this video

  • hey camera fans,

im looking at 2 cameras, either the canon eos 40d or the nikon d90.

my backgraound is as a skateboarding photographer (toungue in cheek but thats what im using it for) aswell as everyday travel photos as i go about my life lol

im struggling to dcide between the additional megapixels and aperture capobilities (high speed shooting in low light conditions) of the d90 or the 6.5 frames a second of the canon. soz if i mad any idioty mistakes in this, but all helps good :)

  • Go with the EOS 50D. Has a faster burst rate and has lower noise at at ISO 6400 than the D90. The 50D goes up to ISO 12,800 but has alot of noise at that level. However the D90 has video.

  • Get the d90, simply of its video. If ur shooting in daylight all the time, all 6+ MP slr will produce good quality (unless ur doing large format professional printing). d90 and 40d has same image quality, but d90 has slightly better noise sensitivity than 40d, even slightly better than d300. You dont need extra 2 frame/ second. If u got more budget, i would get d300s or 7d. For me, i just got D300s upgrade from d80.

  • can we compare this unit vs canon eos 50d

    advice pls?

  • Would you recommend this camera to a beginner getting into photography?

Note I'm looking for a professional grade camera that can take great quality pictures,I'm not a professional but I enjoy the art and would like to get started,I'm looking to take serious creative images what would you recomend?

  • Suggest you get a cheaper body and get better lenses... This camera will have a huge learning curve.

  • if i knew i was going to be this interested in photography to begin with and need the features, i would have not gotten a D60 and should just gone for a D300 first. but then again, we'll never know, and now i have both. but if you are willing to dig for more info on cameras and learn lots about how to use them and how to take good pictures, any decent one can be good enough. but the lens...it's very important too, and it's going to cost a lot!

  • There really is no comparison between a dSLR and a point and shoot compact. One is for professional, serious photography by people who look at photography as an art or a profession. The manual modes are there to actually work with. Point and shoot compacts are wonderful if all you want are snapshots to remember things by - but then you'd probably be happy with the camera on your cell phone just as well

  • Compared to a compact camera?

For professionals, or even amateurs, DLSRs are an invaluable resource. They produce way better pictures, and most people don't care for the size.

Trust me, DLSRs are usually worth it if you're serious about photography. If not, then a compact works fine :)

  • compact cameras are alright for photography, but DSLR's are still a lot better, you can change out different lenses and you can do so much more than you think. not all DSLR's really cost that much i've seen really good ones for about $500 that were 12-15 mp brand new and i tested them out and they did fine. the compact or "point and shoot" cameras are just for people that want to take the picture quickly and move on without worrying about making adjustments

  • yeah ofcourse you can change very different and quality lenses

1 good lense starts from 500 euro/$ and any dslr that you can find for 500$ not going to be any different then average compact

    are you kidding me?

a good dslr set gonna cost something like 4000 $ minimum

I can sacrifice a little quality and both take pictures, videos and carry with me where ever i go with the prize of 400$

    anyways

  • The DSLR's are not about point and shoot, and you shouldn't even compare them to compacts. With a compact you can print the usual 10*15cm photos, not Panels like 2*3m as you can do it with a DSLR. The size of the sensor does matter or you think that the medium format cameras are as good as the compact ones to? If you just want to take some family trip pictures, the compacts are better, but with a DSLR you can produce art. The D300 is one of the best cameras I've tried ever, if not the best.

  • come on..... don't be so naive. (-:

  • Good explanation and filming of the D300. Thanks for posting.

    Outstanding camera with superb feature.

  • great camera, boring man

  • D300 best "Dx" camra body still love and love the D700 but the D300 still gets used 1/2 of the tiem.

  • I am waiting for the d400 to arrive, so the price of the d300 will decrease. I was going to buy the d90 as it performs really well, even at high iso's and shares many of the same technologies as the d300 and d3, but I want a camera that has better sealing and build so the d300 is the camera for me. I tried both the d90 and d300 and loved them both.

  • Comment removed

  • Im sure the D700 is the replacement model which took over the D300's place. But thats my opinion.

  • No, the D700 is Nikon's first semi-professional full frame sensor camera. Nikon have yet to announce the D400.

  • i will upgrade to d300 in 1.5-2 years then d300 price will fall up tu £200 or more ^^

  • oh, have you heard anything about the time of nikon releasing the d300 replacement??

  • I have no idea when it will be released, hopefully soon.

  • I got a question, What does he mean when he talks about noise in the picture ?

  • Noise is like very very small white/gray/black dots and lines that are in a picture. Noise happens when a photo is shot at a high ISO. Lower ISO like 100-400 gives you a more crisp detailed picture, but lower ISO requires you to have a lot of light. And at a ISO of 1800 to 3200 or so, which is good for dark situations like indoors or outside, but some cameras give you a lot of noise at a high ISO. Any other questions, message me. I'll be glad to answer them. :D

  • appreciate that man you broke down noise for dummies lol

  • thats luma noise theirs chroma noise as well that tends to be red. It is attributed to the electrical signals effect on the photosites on the sensor so iso isnt the only thing that effects it long exposures will too even with a body cap on the camera. Also having a high density/high res sensors ups the posibility of noise this it why larger full frame sensors of equal resolutions and type tend to have lower noise..ie d300 and d3 both the same res spread over a larger area.

    Peace

    brian

  • urgh there's sorry

  • the inactive(burnt) pixels in a picture are called noise

  • I've just recently bought one of these and I'm gradually working my way through its functions. A problem I've encountered is that shots when viewed on the lcd screen look really beautiful: well lit, good contrast, lovely colors etc. But when I look at them on the computer they're jaded, the colour balance is slightly wrong, a bit too soft, poor contrast. There seems to be a disparity between the two, I've tried making the lcd screen less bright but still its a problem, any suggestions?

  • might be your computer monitor.

  • have you solved the problem?

  • I meant to say 'D300 or D700'...I wonder what the top flash synchro speed is for each?

  • I meant D300 or D700... a D3 would be very nice of course.

  • D300 or D3 hmmm

  • does the voice at the start say "retarded" ? :P

  • yeh it does, unbelievable

  • i got mine last month. really nice camera :)

  • dude..in ur opinion...which DSLR camera u prefer most ? i'm thinking to buy 1(amateur) but i dunno which 1 should i buy maybe nikon or maybe sony or maybe canon =.=" well i like live view and ofcourse multifunctional but seems nowadays there is alot of camera -.-" i really need ur help...gimme some good reasons too..hope u can reply =) sorry for my bad english(i'm Malaysian)

  • if you want good camera you have canon & nikon dont take sony cuz its not so good in camera ...

  • why say that? Sony bought konica minolta and their engineers... konica minolta made exceptionally good cameras

  • cuz I have one its not like nikon & canon sony have cameras but not professional like canon and nikon ...^^

  • i hav 1 too, and i like my a350 as im a newbie to dslr photography and yeah they might not be pro ur right. anyway im upgradin to nikon d700 or some other full frame canon or nikon cam in a year, i wont choose olympus or sony even though i like sony cameras

  • the d700 good but the D3 are awesome I will buy it ..Tomorrow I will go to the cameras shop and will see the perfect camera but I will not buy cannon Its alot expensive and D3 better than all canon cameras right now..^^

  • go for it you will love pro nikons there feel is only bested by leica m series. They are bricks :D

I cant wait to pick my d3 its waiting for me at home :(

  • When you have a DSLR, it doesn't really matter what brand you have. You're able to take good pictures with all of them, so you really can't fully blame your DSLR if your pictures come out crap - the photographer is to blame then.

You only get the more "pro" cameras if you really need the features and better build quality (especially if you do it for a living), but for casual use even the likes of a sony a100 will be fine.

  • Well done to you!!! I will sell my D300 and 18-200 nikkor right now because of your "valuable" comments. Because you are very right picture quality is same for DSLRs and compact micky mouse toy cameras...

Well by the way I personally would recommend you to get your eyes checked, as you know there is a HUUUUUGEEEEEEEEEEE difference in the pictures taken by DSLR and compact cameras

  • Where did I mention compact cameras? Nowhere. Mong.

  • Nevermind, you replied to the wrong person. :P

  • most compact cameras you will see huge differences, but there are some that i have seen like my kodak M1033, its a decent camera, i still prefer SLR's and DSLR's over all but its 10 mp and takes really good pictures, i only got it because it was cheap and i couldn't afford a decent DSLR, but its a pain to try to get it to take a picture the way you want it to so SLR's still beat compact cameras

  • nikon use sony cmos sensors anyway

  • Nikon uses sony's sensors.

  • Whats a good camera to make youtube videos with, but also good to take pictures, that doesn't cost too much?!

  • I'm looking to buy this camera around or after Christmas. Are there any lens suggestions to go with it? I'm currently deciding between 18-200mm and 16-85mm. Thanks!

  • Depends on your budget and what you shoot. I use it with my 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5, which is an excellent lens, or the 17-55mm f/2.8 which is better, but three times the price. The 18-200 is a good lens of its type, okay for general shots, but not as good as some lenses with a shorter range.

  • I bought the 16-85 with the VR. The VR is well worth it! Plus it's smaller than the 18-200. But I guess it depends what you'll be doing with it. I've also heard a lot of people say the 16-85 is sharper

  • i bought it with the 18-70mm which is a really nice lens. ive heard a lot of bad reviews about the 18-200mm, i tried it out and realised it just wasnt for me. but if its convenience youre after, go with the 18-200mm as it will rarely come off your camera :)

  • realy good video!!

  • this camera is great!... but very expensive :P

  • awesome. Best review vid I have seen yet. Thanx! Mine should be here in a week!

  • Thank you very much! Contails very useful information. Very much technical!

  • Nice tutorial and information. People should give info like this. Well done!

  • Excellent tutorial. Thanks!

  • Live view! The mirror goes up my friend! not down! So you are seeing the image going directly to the sensor.. tripod mode the mirror is out of the way..

    I'm glad I waited for the D300..

    Now I have 2 Nikons. The D80 and D300

  • I'm going to buy this amazing camera soon, and will be looking to buy this DVD as well..

  • But the D 300 has more fetures how is it better?

  • D300 has better IQ, better Noise control, better screen and better features as well.. Are you sure you're not just a bit angry that you can only afford the D200? :D

  • I was replying to sloka666 i do think the D300 is much better

  • today go and get one.

  • today go and get one.

  • today go and get one.

  • Well done. best review on d300. Thanks so much.

  • Great video.

But i wonder if D90 is shown on the PMA 2008 :) This is to much for a amateur like me.

  • good review!

  • Excellent Review

  • I've used the D300 and 40D and the image quality is close, perhaps a bit better with the Nikon. But the D300 features are far better

  • Thank you for NOT INSULTING views but showing us what we can read from Nikon.

This was the better Nikon D300 review, indeed.

I'm disappointed with the D300 but that's because I'm nit picking.

    Thank you for this review.

    - Al!

  • Good review.
