I am both a Def Leppard fan and a hockey fan, I don't get why everyone was so upset over this, I mean yeah it was kind of a dumb mistake, but far worse has been done to the cup by people who won it. Atleast Def Leppard didn't drop it off a table, leave it at the airport or urinate in it.

I'm sorry, but to some people it may seam like just a cup. but to anyone who grew up with hockey, watching every game with there dads, getting up at 5 in the morning to go play hockey knows that it symblizes a life style. and over 80 years of blood sweat and tears, it is the dream of every boy who ever played hockey to one day touch it, so maby to some it just a cup. but those guys can go F*** themselves! Hockey forever.

Some people are like totally over reacting! It is not like Def Leppard set the American flag on fire dude! It is not their fault. They cannot be expected to know everything, especially about American Sports. Someone in charge should have at least orientated Def Leppard about the trophy before going on stage if not held a rehearsal before the show! I do not blame Joe Elliot at all! I would have made the exact same mistake myself. It did not look upside down to me.

To hockey fans it was heresy, but to be honest most none hockey fans don't understand the trophy or the plaques on it, they hear the word cup and assume it should look like a normal cup, small on the bottom and large on the top. if it wear called the Stanley bowl he probably would have known which end was up. P.S if you ever get a chance to drink from the cup be warned, it's said that the 1940s NY Rangers team of that year peed in it to calibrate.
