  • I'm glad that David is interviewing another entertainer/songwriter/performer he's certainly very well qualified to be able to discuss the world of performing. Perhaps these two men admire each others musical talents and feel more comfortable talking to each other. They've both done a lot of interviews with media people before, so there is an angle here to see, I just don't know enough background to connect it.

  • I agree with Cougar, there is this "hip" thing going on in cities that is really annoying and staying true to roots is really important

  • @ caricatureking: you read my mind. What an odd pairing. How random.

  • What a strange pairing...

  • Mellencamp's all "yeah, basically I've been ridin' Springsteen's jock for 30-odd years. It's time I fessed up".

  • Dang, John MC / Cougar looks good in this interview! Byrne is funny with his little question cards, looks like he's in interview 101 class LOL

  • john cougar

  • David Byrne seems to be more a psychiatrist the way John is talking to him..

  • TRUE! I live in Indiana and it is full of rednecks and hillbillies! i dont care about john mellencamp (i don't enjoy his music) but i love David Byrne!

  • @JohnnyLovely2 Jonny Cougar was the definition of rock payola to get airplay.

  • i changed my name to Jimmy Puma Lemon Spa because of this guy...

  • @jimbobklyn1963

Frankie Lynx Orange Park beat you to it. :)

  • @GhibliFan1 ha!

  • @GhibliFan1 It was actually Yohan Jaguar Lingonhovel who was the first person on record to change his name because of J.C.M. Jeeez people, get your facts straight!!

  • i love john mellencamp Way Better hillbilly then billy ray

  • Two handsome dudes there

  • I want to hug David Byrne! He is one beautiful dude!!

  • @dragonjig and cute =]

  • two F N grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat singers

  • Trust me. John is probably the coolest dude in the world. But, Indiana is one of the foremost judgemental states that exists. yeah. everything is cool if you agree with the norm. Meaning, Kentuckanese conservative values.

  • @oldphoque

i love david byrne. :) i agree with indiana being jugdmental. however, Bloomington is an amazing place to live. (i live here). Indiana University is one of the number ones collages for diversity. it's a little cultural oasis. ;)

  • @peachfgp I agree with you. I am from The LA, area and I went to IU in the mid-late 80's and it is a little cultural oasis, which is something that I was use to being and Angelian plus I love David Byrne, great artist..

  • I'm not a fan of his music but mellancamp seems like a cooler guy after having listened to this

  • i agree. much cooler

  • Comment removed

  • could he be more vague?

  • This is a mind blowing interview. Two very different singer songwriters. You got to appreciate that.

    I love both of em.

  • Why is David Byrne interviewing someone? I want to hear David.......

  • Me too but Byrne hosted this show for two years as a "job" so we got to listen to the hillbilly as well.

  • John Mellencamp. What a beautiful man.

  • wot Y can say more - about nothing

##Z - gleich in Therapie nehmen -- & the best is movement & nice-silly music

  • John did sell out quite early on. In the early 80's he used to sell advertising space on his forehead.

  • john mellencamp has the head of a troll doll. good interview though.

  • I like the way David Byrne interviews people, he gives people the time to answer properly. I think Mellencamp was expecting half his answer to do and then he was like "i can still talk ?...sweet"

  • I agree. Byrne is the best.

Just 10 years later you can really see how interviewing styles have changed overall though. Today they cut the star off sometimes by just playing music and fading out.

  • John Mellencamp sucks! John Cougar now he was awsome! There isn't one CD without the Cougar name thats any good.

  • haha I said the same thing. One time a friend of mine said "Who the hell is John Mellencamp?" I gave him the dirtiest look and said "What the hell. You dont know who John Mellencamp is? Have you been living under a rock your whole life?"

  • never heard of him... do you live in a box?

  • Never heard of the guy, but that was a really good honest interview

  • yeah, what he said. works for me.

  • What the hell, I wanted to watch Byrne been interviewd

  • He's more of a hick. Indiana has not too many hills.

  • yeah a hick with more money in the ashtray of his car then you have in your bank account

  • Um....okay? Money is not the solution for absolute happiness. I'm pretty much anti-consumerism, only I have to use money in order to eat and stay in this here house.

I'd live a good life if I was to get published, but if I was to never make more than 30,000 a year, I would't care. People like you who thinks money is this infectious vision of privilege makes me wonder; it's just obsolete decadence ... tsk, tsk, tsk, saaad.
