  • the pentatonic scale is E when your on the 5th fret

  • wow, marty made the scale look hard...thanks EV!

  • sounds like stairway to heaven solo

  • FUCK YOU EV MARTYZSONGS IS 100 TIMES BETTER!!!!!!!

  • huge hands great

  • Jerry: ok first put your fingers here here and here.

next do this (alot of awesom guitar noises). And thats how u do it.

    Me: Wtf?

  • how the hell petatonic scale is from beginners? are you call Jimmy Page a novice or whatelse?

  • @Nirond well, its how you use the pentatonic scale -- a dude on his third lesson isnt going to pull off the stairway solo for a reason

  • Yea watch thousands of short ass videos if you tell me

  • @fripp81 Hey, when an ad on Youtube comes on just press the F5 button and it skips the ad :D it's awesome

  • ya 7abibi roo7 5areeha

from amir and sabri and if u want ta3al khan

  • Hi my name is jared North and today im going to irritate you with not only my voice but this crappy scale that you wont be able to learn because teaching isnt my strong point.

  • So I've learned nothing from this. All this taught me is to play a bunch of notes, but have been given absolutely no clue as to what those notes are, what their relationship is to one another, or why I am playing them.

    WTF ?

  • @woofwoofwoofie same here :(

  • That's very nice but can you remove the typed words from over the guitar neck because we can't see the guitar strings.

  • what a bellend

  • you dont no how to teach you fucking idiot

  • To the author of this video.....When you first start the scale you SAY "ONE TWO" but you are PLAYING "ONE FOUR(PINKY)"

    So it's actually 1 4 1 3 1 3 1 3 1 4 1 4

  • GREAT VID.

  • OOooohhh its so this is known as the note A xD xD xD Wooow

  • 7hours not enough to practice ;)....play and dont stop until u get toooo tired

  • this sucks...

    this is more accurate

how to play guitar: practice your fucking brains out 7+hours a day and you will be sweeping melodic solos in no time

  • WOOOOOW ! many thx

  • Fuck YOU EXPERT VILLAGE!!!!

  • This guy is awesome! I'll bet Jimmy Page wishes he could do the pentatonic home position like him. All hail this master of the pentatonic scale!

  • nope jimmy kills all

  • What in the fuck are these ads?? First you found me at the goddamn movie theatre after I dropped $15 to get away from you. Now you have adultraded youtube, FUCK OFF!

  • 1:16 doooouucchhhe..... -.-

  • idk why i just dont like that guy, hes just like, yeea mutha fucka look at me, its just the penatonic scale dont look so amazed when finish playing it, i mean doesnt he? douche... -.-

  • I tell people that it's only as hard as you want to make it. There is only 7 notes that can be played. how they can be combined is where it can get confusing. Dont start learning guitar and want to play Steve Vai. Start with Green Day or something easy , so it can be fun and not so much like work.

  • and where can i learn all 7 major notes?

  • I was just looking in which fret does it start, i know the rest.

  • AAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! so many numbers and letters. This is worse than my algebra 2 class. I love electric guitar but why does this stuff gotta be so dang confusing :(

  • It might be confusing at first. You just have to put the time in to understand it. It definetly gets easier.

  • It gets much easier...the concepts repeat themselves the entire fretboard. Even when you change key,the scale stays the same shape. Figure out those patterns, and you've pretty much nailed most of the concept of the guitar..the rest is developing technique and dexterity THAT'S where playing guitar gets hard when you're starting out. I'd suggest learning the major scale first..because all the other important scales are in it already, you'll see what I mean later on.

  • What does it mean when someone is saying a minor third.?

  • A minor 3rd is basically 4 frets spacing. It's the beginning of the minor chord - which gives the music a sadder feel. eg of minor 3rd is E to G (open string 6) then play the 3rd fret - or from F(6th string - 1st fret) to Ab (6th string - 4th fret). If you play an Em chord - you'll be playing the note of G and B as well ( G is the minor 3rd)

  • In music, there are intervals which are numbered based off where they sit within the entire scale (which is only 7 notes, which repeat). Think of a pianos white keys starting at note C.Its the first interval for that key. the next interval is D(2),E(3), etc. until you return to C again. A minor third means you are taking the third interval and making the note flat a half tone (down one fret on guitar) So, that means if C is 1 and E is 3, a minor third would be E flat instead of regular E.

  • omg cant even play

  • strange..why is everyone's pentatonic scales different?

  • Pentatonic is 5. As long as it gets to be a pentatonic and you do it in a scale way it will be a pentatonic scale

  • there's 5 different positions in the pentatonic scale - then there's variations of major ( happy sound) and minor ( sadder) to suit the music. A minor pentatonic is probably the most common.

  • because there are 5 positions to play them in, each having a different shape (but the same exact notes) Most people use the one the guy used here, he also used a very common key for learning the pentatonic scale.

  • he messed up the second note...that was finger #4 dude. good ole expert village get's it wrong again.

  • nice catch.

  • boooooooooooooooooooo

  • isn't this the minor

  • Ya its A minor.

  • nice bro

  • Juz a small mistake:) U wanna learn? juz forgive him..:)

  • no its 585757575858

  • Pretty simple. thanks. =)

  • I dont know a damn thing about scales, ive been playing since i was 9, I just went straight to the songs i wanted to learn, I wish youtube was around when i was younger

  • wow thanx 4 making it a shitload harder fuck

  • awesome lesson keep rockin

  • Wait, I'm still confused, you start by saying 1, then 2, but it looks like you went from the 5th fret to the 7th. What I'm getting from what you're saying is-moving from low E to high E-you go 5th fret, then 6th, then 5th-7th, 5th-7th, 5th-7th, 5th-8th, 5th-8th. Is that right?

  • E = 5th 8th

    A = 5th (6th for bluesy)7th

    G = 5th 7th

    D = 5th 7th (8th for bluesy)

    B = 5th 8th

    e = 5th 8th

  • *D before G, lol fail.

  • he meant 1-4, 1-3, 1-3. 1-3. 1-4. 1-4. so 5th and then 8th on the low E. he plays it correctly but says 1-2 by mistake

  • wtf 1, 2? its 1, 4!

  • lol

  • expert at jerking off

  • expert ? this guy ? ...

  • ik how to do this but u just made it a whole lot harder...thnks

  • if some can kick me in the ass! i still don't get how you can make cool licks out of this

  • I'm confused too. I think what lead guitarists do is they play the same notes in the scale but in different position on the fret board. Meaning, they go several octaves up and down depending which key the song is in... I guess.

  • tHIS song is in the Key of A... so if you have a song which is in the key of A... then you can solo using the notes within the scale.. ( so you can make your own sounds).. If you had a song with the key of E... then you would need to use a scale in E, which can be exactly like the scale you learnt in A, but will be E..

  • ha well whats a key, how is it that a song is in a certain key?

  • hhhmmm..why on earth are you teaching when u cant even do a slow scale run without screwing up?????

  • i was just watchin this and he makes a mistake. he says at the start of his playin that u do 1, 2, 1, 3 but really its 1, 4, 1, 3

  • at first i was like this is a boring scale, then you speeded it up i was like holy crap!

  • This video was so helpful to me! You must post more videos like this!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!

  • u fail at life not helpful at all

  • Actually, that is the first position of the A pentatonic minor scale, not the blues scale. Where are the other four? Every book, every vid - only shows this first position, the magic of the pentatonic minor is the group of 5 positions and how they interlock and form one long scale all the way up the neck.

  • Just wanted to point out, it's not the blues pentatonic scale. Not to be picky, but it's bad info for beginners....

  • wasn't a blues scale, you omitted the blues note!

  • okay good job on the 6th string route now you could at least teach the 5th string route for the people

  • wow thanks. 1 position of the pentatonic scale

why dont they teach you all 5?

  • god I fucking hate expert village

  • dont take God's name in vain

  • haha

  • god who?

  • what is his name?

  • some of their vids are good

  • is that Dave Mustaine

  • wtf?

  • I lol'd.

  • haha me too

  • lol ^^

  • onemanmara your full of shit, learn how to play it before you critisize

  • Actually, onemanmara is technically correct. When most people talk about "the" pentatonic scale" they are referring to what is taught in this video, which is a minor pentatonic scale. If you break it down, this is a minor scale without the 2 and the 6, only 5 tones (pentatonic). This scale is appropriate for A minor or C major (two modes of the same key, made of the same notes). There is a major pentatonic scale too, and it's different. He's being annoying on a technicality, but he's 100% right.

  • Also, to further clarify, when someone says "The key of A" it's generally implied they mean major. If the video had been one word more specific and said "The key of A minor" there would be no debate.

regidus, learn some theory before YOU criticize.

  • Well said mate, I think regidus is the one who is full of shit.

  • expert village lol ?

    This video is wrong

this is the A minor pentatonic scale.

Can be used in C major or A minor

This scale is wrong in A

  • Comment removed

  • LOL

  • hair

  • u got some long fingers

  • OMG!! i already know that.. sumbody taught it to me...and so i can make adlibs in our compositions..it's really enjoyable..you should try it..making guitar solos..^^

  • QUEER

  • I also wonder, How do you know if there are Minor Aor Major in the C Major Scale, For example C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C.??

  • Hello, I wonder how do you know what key a song goes in,?? I really appreciate the one who tells me..

  • Mostly its the first note of the song that is the root note, if you know what i mean. So if a song starts with a power A, the root note is A!

And for those who comment the look of this guy: Get a life!

  • Is it always the first note.??

  • No, not always. In one of my songs it starts with an A sliding to a B, in that song the root note is B... But if you have a "clean" start note (no slides, bends, hammerons etc) its motly the first note that is the root note.

  • If you can play the notes on the same octave but different strings will that count?

  • Well... yeah, If the first note is a clean A (in any actave) the song goes in the key of A

  • this video is wrong mate.

this is the A minor pentatonic scale.

Can be used in C major or A minor

  • Usually what ever the song ends in. It really isnt hard to figure out once you know what your looking for.

  • His head at 1:03-1:07 xD

  • haha. i dont even care that this video is wrong. i just saw that his facial hair (and head hair) is an EPIC fail haha.

  • People Hes right But its a Minor oentatonic

  • wtf i learned more from the comments then from any video or what my friends told me XD

  • YOUR DUMB!!!!

  • Man.. lets face it, if this video has so many people making corrections to it, it's rubbish, period.

  • Also, I would highly recommend explaining what the scale is for and giving some rudimentary examples of how it can be used over chord progressions, such as E7-A7-B7 for a blues or rock sound, and then C, F, G or any combination of the C-major chords for a more standard folksy sound.

  • Very good scale for beginners, though. To make the corrections, 1) the finger pattern would be 1-4, 1-3, 1-3, 1-3, 1-4, 1-4. 2) The blues scale would be 1-4, 1-2-3, 1-3, 1-3, 1-3-4, 1-4, 1-4. 3) It's a minor pentatonic in A, meaning that it could also be called a "major" pentatonic in C.

  • i learned more from your comment than this video.

  • you did added one to many strings in the blues one.

  • Ha! Whoops. Yeah, remove the last 1-4. Glad you got some good info; and the video is helpful because there's really no substitute for a visual guide.

  • Yeah I mean, the notes are correct for the minor pentatonic, but 1) he called the fingers wrong (as was pointed out) 2) he called it the blues scale which it is not (also pointed out) and 3) he just called it "pentatonic" instead of pentatonic minor, which is what it is. (and 4, he missed a note. :))

  • This scale is not only the easiest but its also the most commonly used of them all. If your new to playing, this is a very good starting point. Good video, nice and basic. You don't need much more than that for learning other than determination and patience. Don't listen to these knuckleheads trying to be overly critical. It's easy to leave a comment on someones video. It's more difficult to actually put your money where your mouth is in a video of your own. Put up or stfu. JMO...

  • "That's known as the note A"

    His hair is gay, too

  • When you first start counting, on the E string, you said 1..2..., it should have been 1..4..., other than that, everything is in order.

  • grow a sense of humor. His hair is gay. And he was wrong about the scale... technically. Lots of guys look ridiculous on stage but rock... were none of you around in the 80's??? :)

  • Sigh.. Pentatonic blues scale?! A blues scale is a blues scale.. pentatonic is just the pentatonic scale.. more rock based than blues. And he stuck in that last note C on the 8th fret high E string which is technically not part of those 2 octaves and incorrect... And his hair is gay.

  • why comment if it's going to be so negative. if you don't have something nice to say, don't say it.

  • The video is from "expert village" they are supposed to use experts and educate people, he used incorrect information. If he doesn't have something correct to show, he shouldn't show it!! I didn't have to say his hair is gay.. but i did, the point is people are watching this video to learn, and it's incorrect and misleading so it shouldn't be here.

  • no, you're a rude person and don't know how to consider the viewpoint of other people. You showed that by making a rude statement about this guy's hair.I certainly hope you're not teaching other people guitar.I bet you're the kind of guy who points out all other ppl

's defects while the time, you're not really THAT great either.Stop being such a BUM and be try keeping quiet until you have something nice to say. Now, let's see u respond to that and act professional about it.i don't think u can.

  • Ooooooook. I have taught other people because i teach them correctly which makes it fine. Like i already said, people shouldn't post an educational video if the content is incorrect. I am an avid people watcher and take great pleasure in it, if he was to meet me, id tell him he had gay hair. I'm starting to go bald, i am overweight, i have a ginger beard and wear glasses and i'm sure i get people watched all the time, but.. it doesn't bother me, so what.

  • guitar isnt for everyone i think you are born with the gift to feel the music

  • no arashimoomoo yano its not about being born with it its abot being commitid to it

i promis u stay commitid to gitar 4 a week and lern 1 cord u wil love gitar 4 the rest of ur life. R.I.P JIMMY.H *_*

  • i know.

    i play actually.

i have been plating for about

9 months and plan on doing it

fot the rest of my life

  • 2 fast

  • TYVM i've trying to find a vid like this

  • how could u fuck up an easy pentatonic video haha

  • expert sux0r! xD

  • roflmao...

  • he says 1,2 when its really 1,4

  • thanks ddees - even though i could see him do 1-4 i would have been doing the 1-2 forever. i'm way too obedient!

  • guitar is for everyone.and there is no such thing as noise...everything is music.a good musician can find music in everything.

  • amen.... PANTERA IS GOD LOL

  • can somone help me ive been playing guitar for a year and i relly stuggle making my own riffs up can someone tell me what i need to to make it easyer or anything i should know or even refer me to a desent site

  • if youtube doesn't help.. check out some of the lessons at ultimate-guitar(dot)com. they're really helpful and show a lot of helpful lessons. if that isn't good enough head over to your nearest guitar center and buy a book or two

  • by far the best basic lesson, I've seen after 50 ... thanks!

maybe I'm not seeing it,but why do you say 1,2

when your pressing 1,4?At the start of the strings?...

  • which one is the devils note?

  • What?

  • JimMorrisonAbrams,

Calling everyone wannabees but yet you only have been playing for 2 months. Ok im self taught and have been playing a year and a half. And here i am, still watching this stuff.

  • Sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone, I consider myself a wannabe, shredding's not that impressive in my opinion, I guess the term was used lightly, yet taken heavily. Sorry but I had no idea people looked upon a wannabe as negative, everyone starts as one.

  • shredding=noise

  • hahaha nobody is 'good' at shredding after 2 fuckin months, steve vai would laugh and spit in your face if he saw you

  • first thing my guitar teacher taught me

    very useful

  • I love this!

    sounds great!

    nice and soulful :}

it almost seems this guy is gay though :\

    oh well, great teacher! :D

  • Cool man! Great teaching for beginners and experts alike. Remember folks...all great masters continue to perfect the basics and strengthen their foundation.

  • Thats the blues scale!

  • Good observation! The Blues scale is based off of the Pentatonic scale, but the Blues scale adds the 2 finger on the 5 string and the 4 finger on the 3 string...It's the same bluesy note you get from bending the 3rd finger on the 3 string up a half step. (The lowest pitched open string is commonly referred to as the 6th string...the highest pitched open string is commonly known as the 1st string or "little e"...at least that's the way I was taught, but I didn't create the universe.)

  • wow man u want a cookie

  • holy shit he works at my cities guitar center i know him

  • You did a little mistake on the first part. You said on the E string that it was one , two ( talking about the finger place ) but it's one , four ....but I know you didn't meant it

  • notice when he numbers his fingers, he goes, 1,2,3,4. and when he plays note 2, and in his case would have been finger 4, he goes 2. that amuses me.

  • LMAO

  • he has an amazing stretch!...not! haha

  • its my first time learing the scale and this thuing he did really got me confused, i was like Wtf?.

but yeah. i read the comments.

and saw yours and i got myself back on track.

    thanks!

  • Haha! I saw you at GC the other day. Cool video bro!

  • Is that a Les Paul Standard? I know it Standard but yea

  • Thought this was called the blues scale?

  • Pentatonic is blues.

  • no it isn't..

  • Watch the video, at the end he says thats the pentatonic blues scale.

  • the blues is with a 2 in the 5th and a 3 in the 2nd

  • dont argue over scales
