I have just installed a new starter to my 99 suburban. It started fine 3 times, then it stayed on, with the key removed, until the battery died. what did I do wrong??
Just replaced the starter on my 98 cavalier (2.2) but can't figure out why battery light comes on now. The car starts just fine, but maybe I put a wire in the wrong place? Would a misplaced ground wire cause the battery light to come on? There is a black wire with fusible link that I attached to a bolt on the solenoid that also has a silver braid looking thing. Any help would be really appreciated!
@capazzo22 You may want to check your connections on the alternator and also clean the posts and terminals on the battery so that everything is making a good contact. Hope this helps you out.
Quick question, at 3:58 you can see the flywheel. What would you call that cover? I recently inherited my father’s cavalier when he passed away and his Chevy does not have a cover for the flywheel.
This is a very good video example, but I found some differences on my '99 Cavalier.
1st there was no bar or brace on mine; just a plastic shield. Be sure to check the top side for a 'lock nut'. The frontmost bolt from underneath felt suspiciously tight. I gave the bolt end a shot of WD-40, & saw the nut.
Also, my original starter was much smaller than the replacement, but identical from the mount point forward. Mounted fine. As I bought the car new, I know it is was factory. Hope this helps!
i have a 95 cav and its a whole different setup the ground wire is on the top and its a funny looking screw and i cant get it out and its hard to get to for space its on the top too
but other then that i didnt get it out yet but looks easy and i hope the teeth on flywheel isnt stripted
@mrexecutive1 The simple answer, put it back together the same way you took it apart. If your car had shims put the shims back in. I have probably changed starters on 50 different vehicles this way and always been successful.
are the principals the same for a 96 corsica? the starter in the same engine area location?

@TheChritch If the Corsica has the same motor, than it should be a similar process.

@ObsessionMotorcycles It sounds like there could be a short in the solenoid somewhere.

Hello i actually have a 1998 cavalier z24 and was wondering if this operation would be the same on a 2.4L engine..
Richy2316 1 month ago
@Richy2316 It may be similar on the 2.4 motor. At a minimum the basics should reply when you remove it. Hope this helps you out.

@1aauto Thanks. It probably sounded like a stupid question but I've been having a tough time finding one.

@cylusxxx You may want to try your local salvage yard for one.

Great video! did you have to use shims for the starter or a feeler gauge for the gear teeth to mesh properly with the flywheel?
