Anyone confusing this song with the words of William Blake set to the music of Sir Hubert Parry is surely deaf? The two are nothing alike.
Also, a song's use of woodwind instruments like flutes or whistles doesn't make it Celtic; in this instance they were used, along with the phrygian dominant scale, to give a middle eastern feel to the song which is an obvious reference to the city which the song is about.
this is not the English song...just has the same title...the anthem that all Londoners sing...the one written back in 1808 by Blake is very different search english anthem jeruselum...opening lines are..and did those feet in ancient time:....this is just a nice song with same title
For those non-celtic comments from those who know nothing of celtic music. The lead in and in the CD the closing part of the music is a celtic FLAVOR or FEEL as stated above. No one has said it was a celtic song. The cut the trailing part of the music on this video.
See Hundreds of young Americans standing for Israel and Jerusalem....go to utube..."We Will Stand With You Israel" A real blessing to have teenagers in unity for the God of Israel!
Their is nothing celtic about this song - no wonder the intro described the harmonies as the best you will find - it is heavily overproduced with lots of double-tracking - very nice but hardly anything as special as the the intro. Why was the person on the left holding her mike and watching the script when she didn't even speak. Abba did all this sort of stuff years ago. Don't get me wrong they do a great job but need to look happier.
Tey sing with no expression....my goodness what about your faces.......sing with some kind of expression.......when we worship God itis less about the voice and more about leading someone into the holy of holies. Beautiful voices but no hmmmmmmmmm dare I say it..........
It doesn't matter if it's English, or Celtic it's a song honoring our Lord, and a true spiritual message. Thank you for recording it. It's is awesome!
It doesn't matter if it's English, or Celtic it's a song honoring our Lord, and a true spiritual message. Thank you for recording it. It's is awesome!
it is an american prerogative to sing english songs in their own accents and styles, they've been doing that since the americans singing those songs WERE english, anyone here heard of the 'sacred harp' song book?
I don't care what you guys are arguing about English anthem , American singers and celtic songs. I love both the song and the singers and would be glad to lead any of these ladies to the alter, if given the opportunity
Please see the Jerusalem trio August 4, 2010, to see the real joy of Jesus reflected in the face of tghe vocalist. Elizabeth Assumpcao, Rod Smith and Shawn Borunda from Cielo Visa Church in El Paso, Texas
There is nothing celtic about this song, whatsoever. so please dont describe it as celtic, its an english song, sang by americans. wheres any celtic connection?
@AnnoyingBeast Celtic connection? Let's see. "The Holy City" was written by two Englishmen, it's true. The composer was from Liverpool, which is as close to Ireland as makes no odds, and the librettist also wrote "Danny Boy" to the tune of the "Londonderry Air." There's a beautiful version of this song by John McDermott, Anthony Kearns, and Ronan Tynan, performing as "The Irish Tenors." As to the sound: There are more Irish in America than in Ireland, and this is how they sound.
This is an English song about how Joseph of Arimathea walked the English countryside. Also, all American versions change the words as they like - the opening line is "And did those feet in ancient times walk upon England's Mountains Green." It is based on a poem from 1808 by William Blake. The poem was based on an apocryphal story that claimed Jesus had visited England with his Uncle, Joseph of Arimathea and walked upon the green hills of Glastonbury.
@tristanmcg Dude this is not a version of Parry's song with Blakes poem. Parry's song, Jerusalem, is considered the common man's national anthem in England. And it is about Jesus allegedly journeying to England prior to his 30th birthday, and the question of if England had indeed taken upon the title of the new Jerusalem, as described in the Bible.
Wrong song their song is actually about the New Jerusalem and not the song about England of the same name. It helps if you watch the actual video before commenting!
I have enjoyed getting to know this group of Christian young ladies. I think they do a great job on this song. I pray that they will all stay close to the Lord and continue to lift Him up, until we all meet in the New Jerusalem.
Jerusalem is supposed to be a happy song... I don see happiness nor do i see sadness in their eyes... Neutral... I think they call themselves 'The Neutral Voices'.
Wow that was great - outstanding, one of the best....
but to come down to earth and accept the brutal fact that these 3 beautiful American Christian gals will probably hose some American guy, take all his money in some divorce settlement and then run off with some Brazilian boy/toy.
SIMPLY BRILLIANT TRIO AND HARMONIES. Wish I could sing like that. But on top of that I LOVE NORTH CAROLINA for personal reasons. lol. The Best State in the USA. And mainly because I have an ANGEL LIVING THERE. LOL.
@mrdman1959 It's the words that are such a blessing and to sing them proclaims all that John saw and left us with that Hope that we too will see that city and our Savior. Those young ladies did a great job.
What a wonderful job! They harmonize so very well ~ a great God-given talent. Bless the Lord God Almighty for imparting such gifts and for the people iwlling to share those gifts to glorify God! Thank you for posting.
God loves you so much that he sent his son Jesus Christ to die for your sins, he was buried, and he was raised from the dead! Please trust him and be saved from judgment. but nonetheless, i am just giving some ideas that can bring more life to this song to God be the glory-JR

Probably not going to matter.... but.... many people are confusing three songs here....
1. The Holy City
2. Jerusalem: based on a poem by Blake and set to music by Parry
3. What this song actually is

@dynamite1944 Yes it does, It is ENGLISH - Of course it matters - because you put a panflute over the music does not make it Celtic.
