  • Perrault is my horses sire! :)

  • John Henry was a legend, excellence over a lifetime. Perrault was a great horse in 1982, ran sub 2 minute miles on both dirt and turf (SA hcp and Arlington Million). Highweight in the Marlboro Cup at 128 lbs but bowed a tendon, which ended his career.

  • Pincay knew John Henry was going to get by so he kept laying on JH and fanning him out the last 50 yards, creating enough very subtle friction to keep him at bay.. Beautiful race riding Pincay but you got caught!! Sorry Charlie...

  • Give me a break, I have seen horses get 'mugged' and no disqualification, this was horse racing, very minor infraction Perrault, proved he was the better horse.

  • @theyreoff The head on replay says differently.

  • I understand the late Charlie Whittigham was stilled irked by the decision many years after the event. Perhaps the alleged interence was more obvious than in this year's 1,000 Gunieas?

  • One of my top 5 favorite race horses. Got to see him run @ Hollywood park .

    RIP John Henry

  • I met John Henry at the horse park around2005, he was very friendly. :)

  • im not sure about a clear foul, think if was another horse...but of course perrault clearly beat john henry on the turf

  • Not a clear foul??? Perrault and Pincay were pushing JH 30 feet out to center of track.

Watch the head-on replay. BTW... Race was on the dirt.

  • I love that I'm from Kentucky. What a beautiful horse John Henry was; what character he had.

  • God Speed, John.

Thank you for the memories. You certainly lived up to your "steel driving" moniker.

  • What is so incredible is that John Henry made up so much ground from being in 10th position! And, to actually go neck to neck with Perrault even when Perrault made him drift out! Damn - goose bump moment from the Living Legend John Henry as usual!! XOXO Love ya John Boy :-)

  • Fantastic race! John Henry rightly deserved the win. It was plain to see that Perrault CLEARLY impeded a straight-line path for him to the wire.

    Thank you for posting this.
