my grandfather who served in ww2 against Japan was watching this film with me...he wanted to throw his shoe at the screen..this film is way off..another hollywood bullshit film..he was like "how the hell do thier guns carry that much bullets"..in real life you fire your thompson for a short time and boom..gata reload..and the way the combat was...one guy going around killing tons in just a few seconds..never was like that
@burgersforreal it is a film, if you havent been there, you don't know whether it was like this or not, and i really don't believe your grandfather clearly remembers it, if he was 18 in 1944, he'd be 85
I havent seen this movie but I do know, that saipan was fucking horrible in WWII. Japanese jumping off cliffs rather than surrendering. Every war is fucking horrible. No movie would be able to show you what actually happened unless you watch some actual WWII footage.
I had the pleasure of briefly meeting two code talkers when I was a kid. I didn't know who they were or what they had done for our country at the time. And I really wish I had. Because I feel like I missed an opportunity to tell them thank you. I don't know if there are any of them left or not. But I want to thank them now. Thank you for fighting for my freedom and our country before I was even born. This is an amazing video. And thank you to all who are serving right now.
What you have to keep in mind is that the army's d-day into europe was one separate occasion. During the pacific campaign the marines had a d-day for each island operation.
Alot of sad stuff happens in this movie, alot of life saving and alot of lives lost. It's defintetly a touching film. But yeah the flamethrower part I can't watch it without saying to myself "Man that's really sad he did that for a little girl". And for some reason when I think about when he gives the little girl the chocolate before he dies I say to myself "How rude he didn't deserve to die like that".
this is one of the worst ww2 movies ever...they make it like a superhero movie..one guy killing like 100 japs in 5 minutes...the weapons in this movie was way off...they make the grenades explode like fucking 3 bazooka shells...they make 1 bazooka shell like 100 feet length in explosion...too much of a Hollywood like movie. and the they had the guns hold like 100 bullets for any one of them..even a m1 carbine.....ridiculous
when you put it that way it's true,. I don't know if this is based on truth and real events,. but there is good battle scenes in it tho they are what you say above:)
good point, plus if a flamethrower was shot in the tank thing it woulnt just explode. i read somewhere that it would just leak gas or fuel unless manually ignited
point 1: Fire a bullet into a metal can filled with diesel or napalm and it will merely leak out the hole unless the round was an incendiary type that could possibly ignite the mixture inside.
point 2:It should be noted that flame thrower operators did not usually face a fiery death from the slightest spark or even from having their tank hit by a normal bullet as often depicted in modern war films.
actully they probly do relode but its not in the shot... besides have you even seen the movie....the guy is under a state of shock.... and just goes rambo :\ and or r u just staeing ur opinon on this video?

@burgersforreal I suggest you and your grandfather to watch the HBO mini series "the pacific", and this time I think he won't be so disappointed.

This movie really gives Pearl Harbor a run for its money for the title of WORST WWII MOVIE EVER.
John Woo should be banned from making movies. This is utter garbage.
