@2ndQuarto1 That is James Coburn, not Charles Bronson, although they are frequently mistaken for each other. Hello to a fellow "Wings" fan !! I think that this is the best album Paul McCartney ever made. Have an awesome week !!
@fab4fan4ever64 I don't think anybody would mistake James Coburn for Charles Bronson. Maybe they would mistake James Coburn and Lee Marvin. They at least sort of look a bit like each other.
@BadRaspberriesFinger Alot of people post that they think that it is Charles Bronson. I was attempting to correct the person in a kind way... But you can always go the other way, like you did.... Hello to a fellow Paul McCartney fan !!
This is one of Paulie's more underrated songs. I remember the first time I heard it in the actual year of 1985. I was on a city bus in Houston listening to it on my walkman. On the route there was a long, dark tunnel on North Main, and it was weird hearing this song as you entered the tunnel. I'll never forget that. It was February 1985.
In 1974 I spent my summer in India before internet or anything resembling modern communications existed., This was the B side of Band on the Run and I listened to this endlessly. He played it at Yankee Stadium the 1st of his 2 nifghts there in Aug 2011 . It saved me when I was 10 yrs old and was the the highlight of the show for me
i hear that song every night at the disco near my house late 70 s i found that vinyl before 3 years in the garbage when i work there this song stuck in my soul god save us [a thrue story of my life pipis patra john paps disco
What makes it all the more awesome is that the album has a bookmark ending, this is the last song on the original album and i love the way that it ends on the words band on the run.brilliant
I've heard a lot of people say that La Roux owes royalties to Dead or Alive for lifting "Round 'n Round." In truth, La Roux owes money to Paul because the verse is "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five."
I always wished that the Band On The Run reprise at the end of this tune lasted longer, and later, when I heard about the 'missing' verse to the original BOTR song, I wish it had been included here too.
LOL I'll never forget this song! I was in the house when my husband came running in from his car, and said, "I just heard this song that sounds like Paul McCartney? And it ended with Band On The Run? " I said it is McCartney, and that awesome song you just heard is Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five. The look on his face was priceless! :) :) Thanks for everything Paul! ♥♥♥
@IcoverRadiohead - This song, and, album, "ARE" so very much awesome!! :)
But...tell me, my friend...what was in the heads of the 22 "individuals" (INTELLECTUALS??) who so graciously found it in their (empty hearts - and, HEADS) to 'click' on 'dislike' for this AMAZING tune!!
This song and album will stand the test of time; and, are icons that will live on till man is no more; and, some 'being' from another planet hears, and, enjoys it - ALL OVER AGAIN!! :)!
@selenagomez734 : Actually, Paul McCartney's band Wings was known by both group names "Paul McCartney & Wings" and "Wings". In 1973, on the Red Rose Speedway album, the band is credited by name as Paul McCartney and Wings. Some of their 45 singles credit them as Paul McCartney & Wings (like the Junior's Farm single, Band On The Run single, etc.) and some of their singles were just credited as Wings. Not sure why one or the other name wasn't used constantly.
A series of chemical reactions involving nerve synapses, axons, and neurotransmitters used to burn nutrient molecules using oxygen in my hand muscles to type "nineteen hundred and eighty five paul mccartney" and press enter brought me here!
My God, what a time this song takes me back to....I was 18, working my first job and working with some of the greatest people in the world. Including the prettiest and nicest girl EVER. Actually ran across a pic of her, me and my boss on a website months ago from 1976.....about chit my pants!!! Missing all of them and wondering where the hell the time went!
Whenever i play guitar/bass alone, i tend to write very melodic songs, with more emphasis on the sound, not the lyrics. It sounds like thats what Paul did with a lot of his solo work. Shame i cant write anything this epic though. Thanks for inspiring me to be a musician, Paul!
I am Belgian, i live in Japan and, recently, i heard that song in a bar in Los Angeles. I ran to a record shop to buy that album in CD (God knows where i put the original i had when i was child...). And i could confirm something: in Belgium, USA or Japan, this song is everywhere at home.
Bought this cd and listened to it throughout the 1990's, when the beatles and wings were already long gone. But it played well alongside all the other great bands of the day. Love the way this last song on thew album closes with an excerpt of 'band on the run'. It playes like a great film or a long life that ends a little like the beginning.
As much as I love this song, and I do do do, I think it goes on at least a minute too long. "Pretentious" is a word I refuse to use here. I think McC was after the "closure" effect, and I won't condemn it.
@mcc05900 About Paul's love for linda. Nobody will ever replace her. Nobody will ever be better than her. It doesn't matter what women the future brings to Paul. She is what he wants.
@toopoable Have no idea what this is supposed to mean. I was clarifying the song's lyrics for somebody who did not understand the message of this song.
I won tickets to Wings over America for the Tucson show on June 18, 1976. The radio station played this song fast and we had to guess what it was. I did. My parents would not take me to Tucson (I live in Phx) I had a fab Aunt Jewell who did.We had a blast. I remember I couldn't believe I was in the same building. I love this song and it always holds a place in my heart. I love Paul's music so much. I could go on, but we all know. Even my kids like him.
one of the set pieces of a great album..luv the cover, especially CHRISTOPHER LEE on it....MCCARTNEY, uses the synthesizer smartly on a number of songs here..a lot of great music from the decade of the 70's..the STONES..PINK FLOYD..ROXY MUSIC..BOWIE..ALLMAN BROS. and many more..a lot of the "experts" say this was MCCARTNEY'S best...
Do you know what its like to see Sir Paul McCartney live?! I sat row 1 front and center yankee stadium! When he played this song I started bawling my eyes out! PAUL MCCARTNEY LOOKED AT ME! I couldnt stop crying during the whole show! its SOOOO over welming. SO MUCH to take in, in so little time.
@Hockeyplaya4567890 Thanks for sharing that. I think that the same thing would likely happen to me... Hello to a fellow Paul McCartney fan !! All You Need Is Love !!
I just saw Paul in Cincinnati on Thursday as well. What an awesome show...crowd went wild when he sat at his baby grand piano and played this!! Amazing three hour long performance!!
just saw paul at Cincinnati and when he played this song i nearly shit my pants ( of course every song he played i did the same thing but it was still cool)
Haha the guy below me makes me laugh sooo much. Pssh I don't think Paul cares or knows anything about Justin Beiber and why should he? Idk how he could be jealous since Paul did most of his song writing 3 decades before Beiber was even alive. Hahaha funny delusional people.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this is soooo borin paul mcartny suucks he is a justin biebeir wannabee! paul mcartney is jeluas of justin bieber coz he knows justin is sooo much moree talentnted!!
@xoxobieberrfannxoxo i listen to classic rock, heavy metal . and death metal...there all real musics. Justin Beaver is on a total fuckin massacre of what is today's "music"... i have trouble calling that soulless rambling from a kid with a ballgina music. shame on you. find real music not fake shit. oh PS if you want a good band with a lead singer with a high voice check out this song called "breadfan" by Budgie if you have any soul you will like it.. i promise .
I heard a few bars of this song today on Mark and brian . They used it a s a "bumper" coming back from the break I wasn't sure of the name or who the artist was ( I know , how could I not recognize Paul Mcartney huh ?) but it's so catchy and familiar I had to hear it in it's entirety so I just typed in the few words I could recall and it just popped up . Thanks Youtube !
they way they fade out with the title track was such a creative stroke of fcking genious.

This song was great in Cincinnati. This song alone makes me want to learn how to play a piano.

@NGTravis If it encourages you: this song is really easy to learn on piano! :)

Haha the guy below me makes me laugh sooo much. Pssh I don't think Paul cares or knows anything about Justin Beiber and why should he? Idk how he could be jealous since Paul did most of his song writing 3 decades before Beiber was even alive. Hahaha funny delusional people.
