Did you see the very final episode in Season 3? Baby born early; Nick voted out of Fallin & Fallin; Alvin has ALS and decides to go to Antarctica; Nick takes over from Lulu as head of the agency and have to assume they are together - one of the scenes certainly suggested it when he cuddles baby Ann in the bedroom!

Nick's probation term was for 3 years. Think you'll find that the show ended on a good note because it had run its original course and all the loose ends were tied up very neatly - he and Lulu together with baby Ann.
