It should allow you to pan and zoom in 2D, which is a nice workflow. I can't remember of you twist to zoom in and out or puch up and down on the cap. But it should work.
Thanks! problem is, that I didn't see any plugin for photoshop on the disk nor is there any online. :(
As it is, it's dead with photoshop. I'm already all over the 3dconnexion forum asking, but no answers there either, support is pretty lame unfortunately - there's quite an uproar about the lack of support and documentation.
I just got the SpaceNavigator. I use a lot of Photoshop ( I now have CS4) and I work with Cinema 4D. I'm on a Mac OSX 8-core system. I got C4D to work with the SpaceNavigator. Question: Can the SpaceNavigator work in the 2D part of photoshop? I tried it and nothing happens. Or does it only work in the 3D area? It's a beautiful device, increases my speed many times over.
For general navigation in Photoshop, I think it is a matter of preference. It is truly hard to judge unless you've taken the time to learn the device and can make a fair comparison.
For moving 3D objects in Photoshop it is clearly superior, again, once you've taken the time to use the device.
If you do a lot of 3D in PS, it is great. If not, it has less to offer.
This seems great for 3d aps, but IMO I don't think I'd be using it in photoshop, simply due do the fact that I'm a user of many shortcuts to navigate my way around pictures. Holding down the Space Bar enables me to drag the picture around to move my view, mouse scroll moves up & down, ctr + mouse scroll lets me move left & right, alt scroll can zoom in and out. The 3d scrolling is possible too, I'm sure.
I just figure to use my keyboard since I use it already for other shortcuts.
Your comment was posted quite a while ago, but I'd like to point out that the 3d-mouse greatly improves the workflow. In Photoshop for instance you can basically pan/zoom/increase brush or whatever while painting at the same time.
I personally use a SpaceNavigator for CAD work. I couldn't live without it anymore!
can you do it with out Space Navigator if so can you tel me how because i have a .obj that i need to rotate and can you tel me how to texture it to and i have windows xp not mac
Spacenav is a really nice product. I use it at work for 3D modeling and Design work. It's a good addition to the computer at work. It also works pretty well with Vue6 and 3DS Max.
It's optical, and you can click with the side-buttons. The blue light you see is actually the light used to measure the position. What's clever is the clear bluish rubber that the light shines though is all that connects the knob to the body. It provides resistance for the 'feel' of the interface. Imagine a baseball suspended in a web of rubber bands that you can push, pull, twist, & tilt for control; that's the SpaceNavigator! No, I'm not affiliated with 3DX, & my analysis may be wrong. :o)
I'm a mechanical engineer. Nothing beats the SpaceNavigator for zipping around in virtual space. My only gripe is that I can't scroll around in Firefox with it too.
This looks very useful, I'm just thinking about the things I can do with that, My brother wants make video games with stuff like this, I'm not sure if this is what he should use, but I know I' could use that, thanks
Fair to offer an opinion, but keyboard short cuts are universally loved either. Their are many, many people who use and appreciate what this device offers.
I'm guessing it's not so much a matter of lazyness, but a matter of speed with people who actually use photoshop for their jobs, and need to get something done in a timely manner. ;) Looks sweet btw.
Wow, the price on the space navigator has gone up considerably since your video it seems.

Dumb question: Are the Adobe Photoshop Extended versions just expansion pack that require me to buy more software?
Lukyo1984 1 year ago
@Lukyo1984 Well I imagine that it is going to cost $, but if you are into 3D and you work in PS go for it. IMO

If you mean you just downloaded the Adobe Photoshop CS3 version, then the issue maybe with Adobe. I'd try updating the driver for kicks.

the feel is very analog. The SpaceNav uses optical sensors to measure movement.
