Without a doubt this is one of the most original versions of this tune I've ever heard, and considering you allowed it to gel for a month before recording, it's very impressive. You've captured the tunes spirit, at least to my ears, wholly and completely. I'd walk 5 miles to study jazz piano with someone of your many talents. More like this please!
i'm using this vdeo when we play poker or any game ..it's the best song that get's you in the mood for a good game :D..and for smthing else but i don't use this song for that xD
My favorite song. Great improv, especially the minimalist influence in there. You made it fit well. My favorite version is Arturo Sandoval's interpretation, definitely check it out.
The Modern Jazz Quartet, an LP (album) European Concert Atlantic SD 2-603. Side 2: I Remember Clifford, (Jon Hendricks and Benny Golson). This would be my favorite version of "I Remember Clifford". I remember Clifford, too. He played a very sweet horn...
Really beautiful. To JackRusselTerrorist - Not to take away from Lee Morgan's marvelous work, but there are several really good interpretations on the trumpet - Arturo Sandoval, Roy Hargrove and my favorite, Benny Bailey. It's such a great tune...
Hi I have a question about the ivory synthogy.. how does it work? do you need a computer running or does the little machine you've got there the trick?
Thanks for awesome videos and I know I'm not alone to envy your skills and musicality
Hey JRT--find a copy of the modern jazz quartet, European Concert, Atlantic SD 2-603, side 2, track 1: "I Remember Clifford". this would be my favorite...
Wow! Very impressed with the Synthology Ivory patch. Having purchased and trying various synths throughout the 80s and 90s, I had resigned myself to the fact that there would never be a good piano patch. Thank goodness for progress. Art Vista is better? Have to hear that!
your too good man stop playing the for a bit because your making us normal humans feel useless. your playing makes me wanna cry and your skills make me wanna devote my life to piano to be as good as you.
cmon now ease of so us human, mortal normal people can play the piano without feeling like a complete beginner every time.
man your fucking incredible you should be a millionaire. lol
:O I REMEBER CLIIFORD the big red dog to XD but ya man u got skillz keep it up I subscribed second I saw your piece called "a house is not a home" truly inspiring :)
Synthogy Ivory is simply a software midi module. Just as you may buy a Roland Midi Module loaded with a lovely piano patch, so Synthogy Ivory is a sofware program for Windows that features a very good piano patch. He has simply MIDIed the Roland up to his computer (probably via USB) and used Synthogy to produce the sound you hear. Personally, I think Art Vista gives an even more realistic sound.
Thanks, please clarify sound generation? Do you mean its a software patch. Does it run on the windows platform?? Your playing in fantastic. Do I need to run it thru another program?? Thanks for your response.
Hey,your playing is great...I would like to know if your would be so kind how you are getting that great sound out of the RD700. I have the same board but I can't get it to sound like that. Like what are you running it thru amp wise? What patch on the RD700 are you using. Your comments would be much appreciated.
Every time I listen your piano playing,I feel the classic romantic music in your mind. You seems to be a mixed between Chopin and Bill Evans.I 've tried to play with your video but the tone of this song and "my one and only love" are different of the one purpose in the real book; why?
Second question, because you are very strong regarding voicings, could you tell me how you play the sequence Cm Bbm Abm Gbm Fm at the forth bar of this song.
this is one of my favorites. been enjoying your music. thanks for posting. been listening to pianistaitaliano and jazz2511,too. been trying to learn to improvise but seems like you've got to be born with it. my bro has been teaching me but i'm pretty slow i guess. my bro just joined and have posted a couple of pretty good ones. check out jojo jose (tubeyoukarin).thanks again 7
Fantastic arrangement man, wow, I'm still trying to figure out some of those voicings/substitutions that you were using, I can't get past the first minute or two just for that reason haha, keep up the amazing work!! And if you have any sort of transcribed voicings/voicing book recommendations/etc. feel free to throw them my way!! :D
I love this song and you did it justice; I have an album from the early 1980s -- a Max Roach album actually -- with a rendition of this song on it. It is, for me, one of the best versions ... and this song is the prettiest song I have ever heard recorded. thanks again.
Man, nice "bridge" before the resolution of the head. That's a great addition. By the way, you are swinging your eights despite your explaination. Swing can't easily be written to be played strictly by meter. I mean it could technically, but wow: that would be some hard reading. Swing is, sometimes, simply putting the eighths or quarters (depending on your meter) behind the beat and then catching up on the resolution of the phrase to resolve the "meter tension". Good playing!
Fantastic playing-you should be gigging! I have the same Roland-how do you set up the synthogy with it-is it very complicated? I prefer the Roland RD piano on the 700sx. But maybe the synthogy is better.
Really *REALLY* enjoyed your solo, rubato section. I've just recorded a version of this with a playalong...I might have to revise it with some of your chords! Lovely stuff! Great Post!
Thank you so so much. Wonderfull job. Fine fine work. You really made my night. I am a horrible musician and I don't know much about Jazz but I know that I love it. I also know that song is one of my favorites.
This is very nice playing and as a musician and a proud owner of the great Roland RD 700sx I find this very inspiring. I love that Steinway piano sample, I believe it's even better than the Supierior Grand Piano, which is the featured piano on the Roland RD 700sx and that's saying alot. How can I get that Steinway sample for live performances without carrying a computer around?
Wonderful. I enjoyed it very much. Particulary your frazings, touch and feeling are amazingly coming out of the elctronic instrument. I hope you create more time and even make a recording...even Blue Note has no artists who are playing with this kind of jazz anymore.
that was wonderful to listen to!! thanks for posting it!
also.. could you please let me know what keyboard model that is? I understand the software is responsible for the beautiful sound.. but that keyboard looks like it plays wonderfully and i'm looking to get a full 7 octave keyboard sometime this year. I hope yours isn't a 10000$ one!! haha.. I just need one with keys that feel and play like the real thing.. the sound'll be coming out of my computer's sound card though just like you
"exquisite"! It's a walk in the French Quarter, with that melancholy jazz wafting out of doorways into the night air..Thanks for letting me remember..of course, 5 stars!!
Impeccable technique, beautiful interpretation, great chord choices. My favorite parts are the beginning out of tempo section and that wonderful ending! I am going to be studying and beaking down those parts for quite some time. Thanks for a truly inspired post. The "marination" is very flavorful indeed.
Thanks, apostro for the compliment. I am using Synthogy Ivory, Steinway patch for the piano. I record into GarageBand. I take the audio file and sync it to the video. The original video was in better sync. Something happened in the upload to YouTube. It is a little out of sync now. I will rethink my camera angle and try to figure out a way to shoot straight down. If you have a question about a particular chord, let me know. I'm happy to share.
As best as I can tell from listening, it's a D7+5+9. In the LH, I do chromatic roll from B up to D (one note only in LH). In the RH from bottom to top is Fsharp,Asharp(Bflat),C,Fnatural. Naming chords has never been my strength. Hope that helps.
nice!
