isn't the Carillon at NC state University played electronicly? does it play any music or just westminister.Chimes? isn't there a Keyboard with Black and white Keys that can be played by a Human?
I am worried what the stairs will do to the room at the bottom. There isnt a whole lot of room in their to begin with, and I think this current design of the staircase coming in could negatively affect its current feel. perhaps have the first set of stairs be double on each side... i also think that have a 'roof' to the room adds to its feel. although possibly taking away the 'dome' (made to be removed) wouldnt be a bad idea
Don't be worried. I'd be happy to send you the original drawings done by the architect in 1920 to show you a rendering of this completed room. It looks very good. Plus, it's how he intended; the ceiling was actually the last minute change to the plan that disfigured the design. As you see the tower from outside, it is vertical, tall, pointing to the heavens - this is how the interior should have been.
You'd walk in and be taken visually up this wonderful marble spiral stair much like a NC light house. Instead, the architect was forced to compress the room with a false ceiling and you walk into this tall, soaring tower and are reduced to merely twelve feet in height. The stair is how the future carillon players will get up to the playing case clavier.

the tower was constructed to be a carillon instrument that would be a living memorial to those 33 WWI dead.
