Don't forget that most of Western Europe also has a higher per-capita income than the United States. They work their asses off, but they take care of each others' basic needs. @jeremyoyer The American people are not "against it." We already had an election in 2008 and the American people voted en masse to get the GOP out. We took control of the White House and both houses. We are the majority via our elected reps. And the majority wants health care reform. We are not thrilled with all the compromises that had to be made, but there is still a lot of great reforms that most Americans are very happy about (insurance companies can't drop you anymore etc.).

It is sad to see one Baucus slurring words and losing control. The finger pointing and blaming is getting old. They should have been tabled health care reform, since it won't help people until 2014...so what was the big hurry? Their time would be better spent figuring out a way to stop terrorists. Senator Baucus is absolutely right about the issue here (even if I could view only 1:58 of it). And, if the Republcans caused me to work over my Christmas vacation (as they did), and there was little work left to do but to vote to end their stupid filibuster (as there was), I would go to the bar first and come back to tell all the right-wing Nazis to go to hell.
