  • She left us too soon. Still love listening to her music. Thank you for posting this recording!

  • Truly, this is the best version- sequels are BAD.

  • I never knew about this version, but looking back, I think Tracey's version was more of a tribute. She would have sold a lot more records had she lived, I'm sure of it.

  • Love this song

  • Brilliant .

  • So Tracy used Kirsty's 'Bay-bee..." from 1:59. Damn. Thirty years loving this classic and I just now got that!

  • She was a great singer, a wonderful human being, and a loving mother who sacrificed her life for her child. I believe in God, and so I believe her soul rests in Heaven. Miss you, Kirsty.

  • Like a Phil Spector production from the 60's that somehow got away. Great pop tune. (Tracy Ullman knows a good thing when she sees one). Miss ya, Kirsty.

  • Amazing tune!

  • We still miss her.... and we still blame the Mexican government for the travesty that resulted after her death.

  • 00:30 that is her with morrissey

  • Great song, great singer. This version is so fresh and light. Love it as much as Tracey's cover.

  • We all still miss you Princess...

  • this was me at 18 tbh nobody knew what my love was except me lol RIP Kirsty so much of your music meant so much in my life i love you xxxxxxxxxxx

  • Still missing her. RIP.

  • Hmmm, 4 people never heard of love...

  • Such a wonderful song sung by two exceptional individuals...

Kristy MacColl (God Bless and Rest in Peace)

    Tracy Ullman

They both give the song it's TIMELESS appeal

  • i cant hear her beautiful voice and not cry such a sad sad tragedy

  • sadly missed one of the best singers she will live on through her music

  • Kirsty Anna MacColl 10 October 1959 – 18 December 2000

  • @anthonynewsome its been that long Gosh Such a unique voice nothing says Christmas like her and the Pogues RIP Kirsty

  • @markie1979 - yeah I remember meeting her way back when the single There's a guy works........ - she was mad - sparkling - fantastic - an a unique talent -

  • Sadly missed top singer thanks for your music

  • I like the song, but Tracey Ulman does it better.

  • she was on the cover of smash hits 1981 and then what happend, she discovered she was a fuking musical genius thats what fukin happend dickheads duh.

  • I love this song starting now

  • 1:51 Baybee

  • @badmanners411 I heard that's the same Baybee used in Tracy's version--can anyone confirm that Kirsty sings the Baybee in Tracy's hit?

  • @JohnnyCxviii As far as I know (and I'm fairly certain), it IS Kirsty who does the 'bay-bee' on the TU version.

  • @Johnoco66 Yes: Tracey couldn't hit the high note, so it's Kirsty who belts it out.

Poor Kirsty. Eleven years gone, and still loved. xx

  • @JohnnyCxviii it is !

  • A very brave lady

  • A LOVELY SONG BY A LOVELY LADY....R.I.P.KIRSTY. XX

  • Kirsty MacColl was not popular in America. I know she wrote this and recorded it first, but I am familiar with Tracey Ullman's version. This is the first time I have heard Kirsty's version. It is beautiful...a beautiful song.

RIP Kirsty, and thank you for a lovely song that I've loved for years.

  • @bradster67 On the recording, Kirsty did the high note for Tracy at at end ... she couldn't reach it herself!

  • @hopeitsok Funny you mentioned that because I had wondered that when I first listened to Kirsty's version, because "Baby" in both versions sounded the same. Thanks for that info.

  • quality.

  • kirsty wrote it not tracy ullman.she didnt sing it till 1983.kirsty wrote and sung it in 1979

  • Whenever i get depressed over all the x factor shite on tele i just switch this on and im transported to a happier place.

  • I loved the way Johnny Marr played to her. The guy was magic and so was she.

  • Good tune. This lady had talent as a songwriter and a singer.

  • never heard this version before, only Tracey Ullman's version, thanks for sharing

  • Had girl twins on Sept 29 2011, one named Kirsty. She died a week old on Oct 7. I will always remember our darling daughter every time I listen to Kirsty McColl...

  • @Surfsmurf007 Best wishes to you and stay strong. x

  • A good tune

  • Brilliant.

  • This chicky used to sit next to me in class at high skool, how weird is that.

  • I find it incredible that some people think other versions of this song are better than this one. No, no and thrice no.

  • These artists listed next to her aren't fit to lace her boots.

  • Happy birthday, Kirsty.

  • Brought this on Stiff records in '79, fantastic song, great vocal, unbelievable some people think Ullman's cover version is better !

  • What a haunting singing voice! And very original to me. I must rank her in my "10 the best female vocalists list"! Btw from all the versions I like HER presentation of the song.

  • She died saving her son, that`s truly amazing..

    Rest in peace Kirsty!

  • @gofuckyourselfish2 that's amazing how did it happen?

  • @nibornna pushed him out the path of a speedboat whilst going on a dive with the family. He suffered back injuries but survived but she was killed instantly.

  • @gofuckyourselfish2 Not all parents would do what she did, she really truly loved her son more than her own life. As every parent should, but few do.

  • Saw her at wollaton park in Nottingham summer 1993 and she was awesome, sadly missed

  • Gone far too soon - R. I. P Kirsty

  • Some lovely pics on this video, she was so beautiful, and what a voice.

  • God bless kirsty.....We love and miss you and your wonderful music..

  • God bless you KIrsty

  • I love this song, Kirsty was an amazing artist with a beautiful voice.......absolutley the original and best. Her contribution to the music industry is sadly missed.

  • This a great song, but I like Tracey Ullman's version better.

  • ive become totally addicted to this song love kirsty and tracy's versions the best think tracey has the edge with her amazing voice though

  • Simpler times when she came out with this song. RIP Kirsty.

  • @polarisathena in what way was 1979 a simple time then? Oh for sure the music was better then although almost any time in history produced better music then now.

  • cool

  • Well composed tune by the late Kirsty MacColl. She also sang back up on Tracey Ullman's cover of this song.

  • sorry we lost you so soon but YOU are/were a GREAT mother!

  • I've heard this song a million times, and listen to it every day :). I like led zeppelin, Hendrix, etc but this solo blows my mind. The guitar sounds so perfect :D, and the song is just perfect :D peace xxx

  • Thanks for this I only found it when looking for the Tracey Ullman version. I didn't even know who Kirsty MacColl was but now I do!
