I'm suprised that with the fitness level of the FDNY that the extremely overweight officer is even an officer. Experience is great but if ya can't even put on gear and back up your crew, then don't be an officer.
I dont normally comment on these type of videos before, as the guys have a hard enough time as it is, but. The officer is setting a bad example by not rigging in gear before arrival, what if the gas tank or a tyre would have blown on that bus as he ambled across to it? Come on guy, you cant enforce the rules to your crew if you dont follow them yourself.

When we have four guys on our engine, our officer does not gear up for anything. He assumes a command role to aleviate some command duties off of our other responding chief officers... Just a different way of doing things with the manpower your department does or does not have...
In certain places you'll find that their are mechanical q's on their engines and trucks etc.. because in certain districts where their isn't businesses you can use them... so i have heard... like in Manhattan they cant use q's because of the echco and skyscrapers.etc..

I am a volunteer in New Zealand. And I have to say that the officer in charge in the video is very fat. I dont know what the fitness requirements are in the U.S. but in New Zealand you dont see firefighters who are as fat as him.
most places require you wear bunker pants to all runs if your in shorts..i dont like how they go to runs with shorts on...if your going some where at least have bunker pants on or uniform pants but not shorts i dont agree with the way that works even if there are 3 guys ready to go

@cristiangonzalez761 Typically,firefighters DON their SCBA for a car fire but don't usually MASK UP.
I have been to many auto fires and have never masked up.
I'm not saying it's the right thing to do but i feel the thinking is "it's outside". The smoke isn't trapped next to you like at a house fire.
At a structure fire,if you don't mask up,you'll catch lungfulls of smoke heat and hot gas. Not good.
But overall it's a good idea to mask up at a auto fire.
Sucking smoke....not fun.
