Falun Gong is a cult because it promotes a political agenda. True spiritual organizations refrain from pushing a political agenda. And I am not ignorant, I have friends who are "practitioners" and I myself have taken part in some events. I marched in 2002 in Los Angeles with practitioners for the release of Dr. Lee who was imprisoned in China. I have read Li Hongzhi's book, given to me by a practitioner. I feel the followers of Falun Gong are being deceived and used politically.

And I am not ignorant, I have friends who are "practitioners" and I myself have taken part in some events. I marched in 2002 in Los Angeles with practitioners for the release of Dr. Lee who was imprisoned in China. I have read Li Hongzhi's book, given to me by a practitioner. I feel the followers of Falun Gong are being deceived and used politically.

Falun Gong reminds me of Yellow Turbans in Han Dynasty and White Lotus in Qing Dynasty: political fanatics who use religion as a way to gain support and overthrow the ruling government. @Akaalis I'm still saying you're biased because your view of of the condition of the Chinese people and government is largerly exaggerated. In a negative way. For example, you seem to trust sources that are very critical of China (I'm including the govt. here), well; The Economist (which you can still accuse except of being a Sinophile publication) even says that Chinese people are more freer than 1 to 3 decades ago and that the govt. has largerly withdrawn itself from important areas of life.

@Akaalis So just because a certain religion is being persecuted in China, the government needs to be overthrown; that's going to get you nowhere. Chinese people are generally collective and pragmatic, you expect them to overthrow a government that has drastically improved the condition of their country and lives, just to serve the interests of a minority? Persecution is still wrong, but expecting it to end it with a manner like that in China is a counterproductive idea.

Do you know what the civil service branch is responsible for? It's neither persecution nor cleaning up corruption. The Party has its corrupt members but it's not "corrupt" in general, Jiang Zemin's "Shanghai Clique" was and is still way more corrupt than the populist faction, which the current administration comes from.

And even if they're planning to insurrect and overthrow the current government, will it be good for the country? Human Rights are violated everywhere, not just in China; but using Human Rights as a political instrument against China in order to "improve" it is not the right way as well.

But there are also people who have a misconception about China and its government and that's not always the fault of the govt. itself but rather from the mainstream media in the West. Sure there are problems like organ harvesting, inflation, social inequality going on but there are also good things that are happening. You can critisize China for its bad ways but you can also try and look at the other side of the picture and that would improve mutual understanding.

Even before the brutal Falun Gong crackdown, China still had a messed up reputation in human rights and other areas, especially since that "Student Tianamen Square Massacre", which was pretty inhumane and unjustified. China still had problems its just that the CCP decision to persecute Falun Gong added even more to those problems for you guys to deal with. And the CCP is still illegally detaining practitioners today and doing "God knows what" to them.

The number of dead given in the media in the West are also largerly twisted; this is just another example of how the media can manipulate information. That's why I neither trust FLG , Western or Chinese media (that is state-controlled) entirely. I know that FLG is persecuted but news like that is subjecto extravagance like many other issues in China.

You can look at how many violations were and are still being carried out by Western countries which are also systematically carried out by their governments? But you also have Islam, Buddhism, Shamanism, Taoism, Chinese folk religion etc.. all of these religions are not persecuted in China, nor are they against the government; they even receive subsidies like in Western countries. There's no denying that Organ harvesting occurs in China but the reality can't be further from the truth. You can watch the PTV report about Sujiatun for the other side of the story (PTV is not state-controlled).

@Akaalis Actually, with PTV I mean "Phoenix TV"; a non-state-controlled television broadcaster based in Hong Kong; they were one of the many media outlets that spoke out against the Kilgour-Matas report of organ harvesting in Sujiatun. I won't doubt the controversial subject of Christians in China, but Islam today is experiencing a revival in China through government support including Shenism, Buddhism etc. Maybe the people from Islam that were organ harvested were ETIM members?
