People need to get a brain. What are you supposed to do with thousands of dogs that no one wants? You HAVE to put them down if no one comes and adopts them. Do you know how much it costs to feed these animals that no one wants? If you WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE, go ADOPT/RESCUE a dog and then you have saved one.
1: Ban pet shops from selling puppies, kittens etc. 2: Make breeders spay/neuter EVERY dog/cat sold. 3: Introduce "pet owner licenses". 4: Review and enforce animal cruelty laws on all levels.

This video will forever get me, Millions of those sad videos with the sad songs but how many videos are like this one..talking one on one with a kill shelter and making people see this. In fact every person who walks in to a kill shelter to leave a pet should have to watch this and think to themselves....My animal being Euthanized will be of no ones fault but my own. The people featured in the videos are local shelter workers, animal rescue people, vet techs, and doctors. They work with active rescue groups, not political groups.
The primary reasons we have so many in the shelters is because people think its cool to not spay or neuter and also all the damn breeders out there!! People need to start aborting breeders and getting pets from shelters..they need to realize that because of their decisions to get the "perfect" breed, they are rejexting thousands that just want a loving home.

My heart is heavy and full of sadness . My 2 cats are both rescues and have been spayed and neutered . I always donate money to SPCA , I'm only one person, these animals need so much more. I could not morally do this type of work and I would lose my mind . Death is the final stage of life but it should come naturally

However, if my nephew is riding his bike and a stray dog approaches him in a menacing way, I will kill that dog with a knife, gun or my bare hands. The safety of children ranks higher than the life of a dog. Dogs are domesticated animals that require human care. If not given care, they will suffer or harm.
I understand that the safety of children comes first but coming from someone who has seen feral cats and dogs in multiple countries I must disagree that they're a threat. Feral animals tend to be skittish and flee from humans. They're also decent hunters so even if they might not live as long as house pets, it's better than being euthanized without a chance.

Indeed education n spay campaigns r the best way to stop this. Euthanasia as a population control measure is so wrong, theres no need, it just enhances the cycle of getting new dogs n then throw them away. Same as shelters, which helps a little, but leaves an option to irresponsible owners. I have 4 pets, 3 of them adopted, and had rescued 3 more (one pregnant w/7 puppies), treated them, spayed them n gave in adoption. Seriously, the US gov has to focus on more spay campaigns, its the only way.

As horrible as this is, this video shows what is truly going on in many animal shelters across the country and one major part of the problem is the irresponsible pet owners who refuse to spay/neuter their pets and let them roam free. Every time my neighbor's dog went into heat, I ended up taking in another stray! YES there is a no kill solution and many shelters ARE no-kill (although some will still kill certain breeds, such as Pit Bulls, just because the HSUS and PETA say they are dangerous!)

I know our shelter gives a discount at a local vet's office because they require you to get your animal spayed or neutered. There should be huge fines for not having pets neutered or spade. I bet that would wake up a lot of people to being responsible. And that money from the fines should go to pay for the animals of people that cannot afford to spay and neuter. Education of having a pet should also be a requirement.

Where would you put these homeless pets? Just keep building more and more shelters every year? How would we keep up? We kill 30,000 each year in Vegas. If each shelter accommodates 800 animals, we'd have to build at least 40 new shelters EACH YEAR to house these animals. Where would that money come from? Where would the staff come from? Where would the land come from?

Personally I don't blame the breeders for breeding, I blame them for lying and working to prevent spay/neuter legislation, pretty much all of which makes provisions for breeders licenses. The problem is there are so many breeders that DON'T want to get a license or pay taxes. There are good breeders too.
Someday you or your family will prefer a particular breed based upon it's temperament & personality.
Breeding dogs correctly & caring for them is extremely expensive. Creating more governmental departments that suck profits from breeders along with enforceable taxation means the cost of that dog will skyrocket. Many small breeders will fall out causing short supply making it suitable for large industry breeders & unless mass produced will cost you $10,000 for a purebred.
People or businesses that dont pay income tax contribute greatly in everything they buy to run that business as everything they buy has taxes added to it, feed for livestock, gasoline, Diesel, etc etc. Imprisoning that person for not paying something he is not supposed to in the 1st place removes his business function, less $ that flow through the system generating taxes then everybodies taxes feed, heat & cloth him. start charging hefty fees for dropping off at shelters, keep raising those fees. We live in different times since shelters began. You had to place & run an ad for a price, now it is free on places like Craigslist to get rid of a dog. Many people that will hand over a dog to the shelter will not kick their dog out on the street but will use craigslist. My plan is to shut down the option of dropping off at a shelter it's too easy...
or if you keep them open then rename them from the deceptive title of "shelter", which the name gives a sense of security, change it to to D.C.U.P. Death Camp for Unwanted Pets, then have a huge window in the lobby looking into the ovens as the dogs yelp all the way to their death. But the reality is that most dogs dropped off are not dropped off because they were super loving, wonderful pets. They were dropped off usually because they had a mean streak. Before coming to me I have had a lot of people try the shelters. One woman was tolerant to a point but when she finally had multiple bite wounds & the scars to show it had to take the dog back to the shelter & many said they tried that but the various dogs did not work out for multiple reasons so they seek a purebred
Fact is I have spoken to Animal control. I wanted to video tape the cremation process but they turned me away as they have the News Media. I wanted to post this on youtube so people see what happens but the reality is that for Animal control that is their livelyhood, they do not want to lose their jobs therefore they refuse to let people actually see the ugly truth, turn people away then lay off workers as dropping off at the shelter becomes unpopular. I need to sneak in a hidden camera.
That's why I am opposed to creating more laws & departments because once they are established nobody wants to lose their jobs & has nothing to do with the betterment of the people and everything about manipulating the laws to keep that department open and raking in the money by licensing, taxing & regulating you every step of the way.

I work as a volunteer for AKC & another member has connections internal to BernerGarde & various other personal files of all breeders. We have friends who pass legislation. We systematically harass breeders out of business, It's a slow process but each yr we place stricter legislation. Eventually if we ban all breeding & outlaw all pet ownership this will clear out the shelters.

The problem with spay/neuter legislation is that it never stops, one law is never enough. All animal Breeding is illegal in all of Denver, outer cities will eventually follow. Each decade imposes stricter laws on every aspect of your life. Most of us are completely unaware that we are part of a sterilization project. Most Americans would never allow it so it must be done without our knowing. I was being attacked by a fellow breeder who many work hard to cut out their competition to keep the breed in short supply to keep the prices high. They call the city to report litters. I tracked her down in her city in a counter attack & turns out her dogs were not licensed either. But what took place was just like a drug sting. They asked my neighbors to take photos of my yard from their windows & decks. trailed my customers
Where the report reads, followed individual to the pet store, went inside. Observed person getting pet tags, followed individual to gas station, contacted individual on the phone & asked what he was doing at Mr _ _ _'s house, asked how many dogs he had, etc etc. Once presented with the ticket for mandatory court. I was cautious what I said to the officer but on the phone to people I knew and in emails I referred to them as the mafia, pay up, or we shut you down & take your dogs.
The Judge poured over my documents that held the court up for 3 minutes or so. He asked some questions, I answered then as a final note he said we are not the mafia. :-O
I was floored. How in the f*ck did he know what I said in the privacy of my own home. Fact is they know & what was once illegal is now legal in surveillance thanks to Bush & not just for terrorists but every day life. Police are arresting everyday US citizens under the patriot act,

Before you push for new laws get input from all angels. I spoke with Animal Control after court. I followed a ridiculous legal requirement for a paper trail. every time I called in for the specific paperwork they knew me by name so asked, "How do you know my name every time I call? Am I the only one following this procedure?" she said yes. I had specific complaints about it's function & they admitted they don't use that information for any kind of data tracking as there is not the manpower

There are more laws than you can imagine on the books & I was told directly by a city official that once on the books it's nearly impossible to remove them just like an old law in Denver states it is unlawful to drive a black car on Sunday & it is unlawful to eat in any room not designated for eating so fact is the police ignore enforcement of most laws in the books but they are still laws & can be enforced at any time even if only to harass
I am a perfect example of human behavior. If those fees were very reasonable like $10 license & $5 litter permit they would get their (or actually my) money on time & that of many other breeders but at those rates I do everything possible to defy those laws & in essence go somewhat underground. Make laws that work well for the people & the State & don't place blame where it is not deserved.
Breeders don't fill up the shelters, the average citizen does. The focus must lie on people& how easy the shelters make it& with so many human babies ending up in dumpsters the laws opened up enough that women may leave their babies at hospitals, we have opened up the door for baby shelters& as that evolves will be the same as puppy shelters then you can just go in and buy a baby as the procedure is more accepted. My father told me of the dog auctions that take place in Missouri & that rescuers go down there in groups & will pay any price for the dog so that it is not purchased by other breeders. I immediately stated, How stupid is that? Now they just created a high demand market that will increase breeding & auction sales.
I invited a dog show judge into my home as one dog I had x-rayed with mild hip displasia, huge financial loss but I only breed healthy sound dogs so I used craiglist to find her a good home for no charge. This dog show judge sat in my living room telling me she used to be involved in the groups who went to Missouri but they realized later they were just pouring money into the breeders pockets.
I really was surprised that there are such huge groups that haven't a clue what they are doing reminded me of a white man who went into Africa buying slave children at any price then setting them free. Great for those few kids but caused an increase of village raids & kidnapped children because now there is a buyer paying top $ for slave kids. Why are people not intelligent enough to understand the psychology behind that?
What you need to do is put your money towards a psychologist. Study everything about Edward Bernays on youtube who is cousin to Sigmund Freud. He was a master at manipulating the human mind to fulfill particular goals. The tobacco Corporations felt they were losing profits because women did not smoke as it was taboo so Bernay's staged a single event that changed all of that.
Humans are malleable, easily controlled & manipulated once you know how to enter the psyche & Bernays became very popular amongst corporations who learned how to sell people things they did not need. Later the Federal government learned tactics to keep masses of people under control. Bernays later went to work for the CIA. I think most of you are spinning your wheels. You need an expert on human behavior & economics to guide you.
The reason you don't understand me is because human behavior & studying how the world functions behind the scenes has been a hobby of mine since I was 15 but I do not claim to be an expert. Once you see how Bernays functions then perhaps you will see how you can effectively pursue your goals by submitting laws that are effective without over burdening a system already understaffed, get into the psyche of the American masses & something that effectively works for the breeders. I cry every time I watch this video. I spend as much time as I can playing with my rescue dogs in honor of all those who were euthanized. The problem is not the technicians. It's the people who breed irresponsibly for money, it's the puppymills, and it's the consumers who buy from them..don't buy from petstores or "back yard breeders" buy from a reputable breeder who breed to better the health, or rescue.

@ohgoodjoy I can tell you are a compassionate person, but TNR is a bad idea. You can't have feral cats and dogs roaming the streets. I love dogs and have adopted unwanted ones from pounds. However, if my nephew is riding his bike and a stray dog approaches him in a menacing way, I will kill that dog with a knife, gun or my bare hands. The safety of children ranks higher than the life of a dog. Dogs are domesticated animals that require human care. If not given care, they will suffer or harm.

I understand that the safety of children comes first but coming from someone who has seen feral cats and dogs in multiple countries I must disagree that they're a threat. Feral animals tend to be skittish and flee from humans. They're also decent hunters so even if they might not live as long as house pets, it's better than being euthanized without a chance.

Indeed education n spay campaigns r the best way to stop this. Euthanasia as a population control measure is so wrong, theres no need, it just enhances the cycle of getting new dogs n then throw them away. Same as shelters, which helps a little, but leaves an option to irresponsible owners. I have 4 pets, 3 of them adopted, and had rescued 3 more (one pregnant w/7 puppies), treated them, spayed them n gave in adoption. Seriously, the US gov has to focus on more spay campaigns, its the only way.

As horrible as this is, this video shows what is truly going on in many animal shelters across the country and one major part of the problem is the irresponsible pet owners who refuse to spay/neuter their pets and let them roam free. Every time my neighbor's dog went into heat, I ended up taking in another stray! YES there is a no kill solution and many shelters ARE no-kill (although some will still kill certain breeds, such as Pit Bulls, just because the HSUS and PETA say they are dangerous!)

I know our shelter gives a discount at a local vet's office because they require you to get your animal spayed or neutered. There should be huge fines for not having pets neutered or spade. I bet that would wake up a lot of people to being responsible. And that money from the fines should go to pay for the animals of people that cannot afford to spay and neuter. Education of having a pet should also be a requirement.

Where would you put these homeless pets? Just keep building more and more shelters every year? How would we keep up? We kill 30,000 each year in Vegas. If each shelter accommodates 800 animals, we'd have to build at least 40 new shelters EACH YEAR to house these animals. Where would that money come from? Where would the staff come from? Where would the land come from?
We need to prevent the births of animals that just end up in the shelters to get put down.

Breeding must be strong controled. Puppy Mills should be banned. The breeders must have a liscense from the government to do it, they would be obriged by law to do only a certain breeding number per year. Those who fail to accept should be punished severely.

Personally I don't blame the breeders for breeding, I blame them for lying and working to prevent spay/neuter legislation, pretty much all of which makes provisions for breeders licenses. The problem is there are so many breeders that DON'T want to get a license or pay taxes. There are good breeders too.

Someday you or your family will prefer a particular breed based upon it's temperament & personality.
Breeding dogs correctly & caring for them is extremely expensive. Creating more governmental departments that suck profits from breeders along with enforceable taxation means the cost of that dog will skyrocket. Many small breeders will fall out causing short supply making it suitable for large industry breeders & unless mass produced will cost you $10,000 for a purebred.

start charging hefty fees for dropping off at shelters, keep raising those fees. We live in different times since shelters began. You had to place & run an ad for a price, now it is free on places like Craigslist to get rid of a dog. Many people that will hand over a dog to the shelter will not kick their dog out on the street but will use craigslist. or if you keep them open then rename them from the deceptive title of "shelter", which the name gives a sense of security, change it to to D.C.U.P. Death Camp for Unwanted Pets, then have a huge window in the lobby looking into the ovens as the dogs yelp all the way to their death. But the reality is that most dogs dropped off are not dropped off because they were super loving, wonderful pets. They were dropped off usually because they had a mean streak. Before coming to me I have had a lot of people try the shelters. One woman was tolerant to a point but when she finally had multiple bite wounds & the scars to show it had to take the dog back to the shelter & many said they tried that but the various dogs did not work out for multiple reasons so they seek a purebred

Fact is I have spoken to Animal control. I wanted to video tape the cremation process but they turned me away as they have the News Media. I wanted to post this on youtube so people see what happens but the reality is that for Animal control that is their livelyhood, they do not want to lose their jobs therefore they refuse to let people actually see the ugly truth, turn people away then lay off workers as dropping off at the shelter becomes unpopular. I work as a volunteer for AKC & another member has connections internal to BernerGarde & various other personal files of all breeders. We have friends who pass legislation. We systematically harass breeders out of business, It's a slow process but each yr we place stricter legislation. Eventually if we ban all breeding & outlaw all pet ownership this will clear out the shelters.

Each decade imposes stricter laws on every aspect of your life. Smoking in bars is now a Federal crime & speaking of spay/neuter legislation, there is a never ending pursuit of compulsory sterilization programs for people to reduce population levels, this was first implemented in the Us in the 1920s.

I tracked her down in her city in a counter attack & turns out her dogs were not licensed either. But what took place was just like a drug sting. Where the report reads, followed individual to the pet store, went inside. Observed person getting pet tags, followed individual to gas station, contacted individual on the phone & asked what he was doing at Mr _ _ _'s house, asked how many dogs he had, etc etc. Once presented with the ticket for mandatory court. I was cautious what I said to the officer but on the phone to people I knew and in emails I referred to them as the mafia, pay up, or we shut you down & take your dogs.

Before you push for new laws get input from all angels. I spoke with Animal Control after court. I followed a ridiculous legal requirement for a paper trail. every time I called in for the specific paperwork they knew me by name so asked, "How do you know my name every time I call? Am I the only one following this procedure?" she said yes. I had specific complaints about it's function & they admitted they don't use that information for any kind of data tracking as there is not the manpower

Breeders don't fill up the shelters, the average citizen does. The focus must lie on people& how easy the shelters make it& with so many human babies ending up in dumpsters the laws opened up enough that women may leave their babies at hospitals, we have opened up the door for baby shelters& as that evolves will be the same as puppy shelters then you can just go in and buy a baby as the procedure is more accepted. My father told me of the dog auctions that take place in Missouri & that rescuers go down there in groups & will pay any price for the dog so that it is not purchased by other breeders. I invited a dog show judge into my home as one dog I had x-rayed with mild hip displasia, huge financial loss but I only breed healthy sound dogs so I used craiglist to find her a good home for no charge. This dog show judge sat in my living room telling me she used to be involved in the groups who went to Missouri but they realized later they were just pouring money into the breeders pockets.

I cry every time I watch this video. I spend as much time as I can playing with my rescue dogs in honor of all those who were euthanized. The problem is not the technicians. It's the people who breed irresponsibly for money, it's the puppymills, and it's the consumers who buy from them..don't buy from petstores or "back yard breeders" buy from a reputable breeder who breed to better the health, or rescue.

Due to a shitty economy, some people can't even afford to pay to feed their own children or keep their own homes, let alone help a poor animal. There are no easy solutions. There was a woman who actually got arrested for taking a suffering animal from a cruel owner and trying to save its life, so the law is NOT on our side.
