What she is telling is a message that our scientist go to buildings and such to figure out our life history and times, first which isn't correct, but also what we are taught period has been revised till it has no reality anymore. Christopher Columbus is the testimony after that no school could teach my kid. Don't believe it just take a minute and read it.
Erykah can make you laugh (call Tyrone)...she can make ur emotions sway (didnt cha know) and she can make you think deep and wanna cry....hence this performance. So many other joints I didnt mention but Erykah baby u tha WOMEN
This song isn't really about anything in particular, all she saying is that once you become conscience and you TRULY see, you can't pull the wool over your eyes no longer. And she's saying because she's taught the world TRUE lost knowlege, she won't be remember for it, but she doesn't care as long as the seed has been planted!!!!!
@MzShaybutta This song is as if Amadou Diallo is singing from his grave. He was a West African immigrant that was shot at 41 times (19 bullets actually struck him) by 4 plain clothes officers with the now defunct NYPD Street Crimes division, back in 1999.
This song is talking about religious structures today. AD 2000 (ANNO DOMINI) is referring to the year used to conceptualize the birth of Christ. She is saying that these buildings or the church structure is not what the Lord intended. He is inside of all of us and if we realize that we can be free from false religion and accept the presence of God in your life. She is very deep and her messages are very spiritual.

this was at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Hague...I was there...rembering those amazing lampoons as well...she was too late for the show and messed up the scedule of the festival, but just easy turned the crowd around here fingers...simply amazing preformer!!! Love her!
I would have liked to see what you said lol when authors remove stuff they are censoring....now on the other hand I love MS Badu and probably would have bashed you lol but still your opinion should be allowed to be read and then we can yell at you :)
Well, I would rather keep it censored for your sake. I didn't mean to offend anyone here. I asked why did she cut her hair but I didn't realize it came as an insult. :/
I was fortunate enough to see this concert at the Fox theater in Atlanta....3 rd Row seats. When she sat down, with her guitar, directly in front of me and starting singing, I must say it is one of the most beautiful performances I have ever heard, it blew my mind. She is amazing to see and hear Live. What a moving, undescribable memory to have found this video:)
We must have been at the same show and I was a few rows behind you and I have to say that I have been to many a concert..many but Erykah's live show is one of the best I have EVER seen in my 36 years and 20 of those going to shows...she is simply divine!!!
Mama's Gun goes down as one of the best top 10 cd's of ALL TIME. Just a master of work from track 1-last note. I was so moved when I first heard it....left me without words. I always loved this song....so free, so clean, so perfect...
@sociologyben IKR and it's been 10 years and I HAVE to listen to Mama's Gun everyday. New Amerykah (PT1&2) are excellent in their own right. But, this disc still has my heart!

sweetbippity 1 year ago
@sweetbippity : you're absolutely right of course ( although 'in the year 2000' makes sense,as Mama's Gun was released that year) .
A.D. stands for Amadou Diallo , who was killed in 1999.
Erykah lets him make this statement, one year after his death.

@sweetbippity It does mean "in the year of"...more aptly "the Year of Our Lord," referring to years after the birth of Jesus Christ. It is an abbreviation for the Latin Anno Domini.
For better or worse, AD/BC is the modern calendar that most of the west (in fact, most of the world), uses. Because the term is specific to the Christian religion, however, some scholars prefer to use "C.E." instead, which means "the Common Era."
