  • Interpreting Zen masters and augurs... The joys of simple, obvious yet so easily missed simplicity ;-)

  • Thank you Danae.....it is ironic, no, how difficult it can be to see and to experience the things that are the simplest.

  • 賛成できます。

  • Mmmm.......one translation gave me "You can approve" while the other said "You can vote". Both of which I totally agree with, although without quite knowing what it is I am agreeing to.

    Help!

    Lovely to see you......Sarah

  • ironically it simply means "i agree."

but japanese doesn't have to have subjects and also some phrases are literally a bit different. the words literally mean "is able to agree." but anyway, that's why those automatic translators, as nice as they are, can't ever quite get it right.

  • Well, and your cleavage, girl, also makes one contemplate and smile...!(just HAD to add this one),love, Rickie

  • Well, no one ever said Zen couldn't be without its, umm....pleasures? :">

  • Umm indeed!

  • Dear Sarah,

May i order something from Zen master Dogen?Do you know Mark bittner's book "the wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill"? One of the parrots which whom he's mostly involved, is called Dogen, after the Zen master Dogen from Suzuki Roshi if i'm spelling this right, ah it's late, i'll get back to you on this one,it's a beautiful book about zen and the bird world, but for now, i love this vlog, and the comments and your answers very much! You are really very zumouristic in them...liefs, Rickie

  • I am SO glad you know about Dogen and Suziki, who are both very important to me. In fact, when I studied at the Zen Mountain Monastery, Daido Loori - who was my teacher and the head monk - comes from a lineage that traces itself back to Dogen. However I do not know the book by Bittner but will look for it.

It pleases me that you liked this vlog...in fact, just knowing you stopped by is enough to cause me to smile.

  • I think you will like Mark Bittner. His quest, and his connection to the wild parrots of Telegraph Hill, and his love for Gary Snyder, i'm trying to translate his book into Dutch, as an exercise, and because he feels like a brother to me, very close. And then of course, you, who felt like a sister from the beginning, know ALL about Dogen!!! Hahaha! Well, you did it again!I just spent 3 hours notching (following a class, wanna make that donkey wagon myself), so my day was made, but..cupflowethover

  • So there you have it: Buddhism. Hehe.

  • So nice to see you around.

  • Very thought-provoking, Sarah. I'm happy to see you posting again here. :-)

  • Yeah, I know...I drop in and out a lot, but will try to make an effort to post at least a little something more often.

Mmmmm....but now if we can work on getting you to post!! : )

  • But what is the sound of "One hand clapping"

  • Smack!

  • Deep

  • That's what I was afraid of...means there's a long way to go until I get back to the surface and can breath!

    Thanks ; )

  • LOL....good one 8D

  • Thanks! And I owe you a reply to your sweet long lovely note from some time ago... soon, promise :)

  • excellent. loved that adjoining story and mini-lesson. thank you teacher sarah. ((hugs))

    *tori*

  • Story? Lesson? I was just trying to read and have some coffee when these rude words kept butting in....I mean, really!!

    :)

  • you just make me smile. everytime. when you do "almost nothing" it is still like it was everything.

  • But it is never everything until your smile completes it.

  • You gotta love those (old) zen teachers!

  • Yes you do...yes you do....

  • haha, I loved it :]

    xoxo

    Ali

  • And I love that you did!

  • Love it! So glad to see you back on the tube!

  • Back on the tube? Ahhhhh...that explains it!! I kept wondering where I went missing to! :)

  • Ohmmm,,,,,sip,,,,,,,,ohmmmmm.

  • Can I refill your cup?

  • These are perfect! They just fit my attention span.

  • Hey, as far as I can see, a minute of attention is more than enough to span some pretty wide rivers :)

  • I'm reading Tea and drinking this awesome video at the moment.

I remember going on a Zen retreat once where you weren't allowed to talk for the whole weekend. It taught me how to be fully present in alot of different parts of my life. But, i do confess, it is easy to fall back into the confusion, chaos, and drama of everyday life. Thank you for this gently reminder to be more "present" in my life. This message couldn't have come at a better time. Thank you "grasshopper".....

  • The longest retreat I ever did was a whole week, so I know what you mean. That experience changed me in a big way, and while - like you, perhaps - I 'changed back' after awhile, there is something SO powerful in simply knowing that that change IS possible. And yet....nothing changes except that the dust is wiped from the mirror.

  • Great video as always. It's good to see you are posting for I have missed your insight, intellect, and heart

  • There's not a comment or a video of yours that doesn't make me smile...thank you!

  • Those whacky zen teachers... ;-) xoxo

  • And I got whacked by a few.....seriously!!

  • I'm sitting here trying to figure out whether that was innuendo or not... rofl! xoxo ;-)

  • hahaha, i love your humour

  • This is such a smart video, I love it!

  • Not sure about smart, but whenever love is involved something must be happening right :)

  • Fantastic video! I am so glad that you started this series and I am really excited to see future videos. I saw often read and have a cup of tea so I am so able to connect with this video. There was a high school student who said they were going to Haworth and asked me what book I recommend they read while they were there. I recommended that they enjoy being there experience all they can and not worry about reading while they are they. Just living is often more than enough. Just breathing.

  • At the Zen monastary it took me years to JUST breath...and it was amazing when I could.

  • lol. books are my favorite beverage too. makes me love to read coffee and beer. at least i don't do cofee and beer at the same time??

  • Somehow coffee flavored beer actually doesn't sound that bad....

Zoh, when you coming to see A?

  • LMSO! I loved that, Sarah, brilliant...

That was awesome and I feel honoured to be the first commenter :D

    X Reuben X

  • And I feel honored that you were...now go and put your socks back on! :)
