Just remember to cover your back brake and you will never loop out the farther back you go the closer you'll get to balance point. Check my vids out I'm giving good advice.
Hey dude, what gearing are you running in this video?
I had the 15/44 setup from standard but went to 14/47 which is a bit too much for me tbh, I was thinking of going 15/47 and still being able to do second gear wheelies?
@addyer To be honest I don't remember, but it was either stock or the rear was maybe one tooth less than stock at most. I wouldn't want to go any shorter as I used the bike on the highway quite a lot and it was already revving enough haha :)
Ok cool, think I'm going to go back to stock and keep the 14/47 for offroad. What performance mods has your bike got if any then? My 02 drz400s which is stock only comes up in first and second off the power and not for long since I'm chicken but I have a full arrow system arriving wednesday then doing 3x3 mod and getting dynojet stage one friday.. hoping for alot more power..
@addyer It has the 3x3 mod but is otherwise stock. If you're chicken find the steepest hill you can and try and wheelie up it. It's way easier and less scary to get the front end up when you're going up hill.
@bandguy360 2nd. If you just roll on it won't come up but if you snap closed and back open it's no problem, especially going up a hill! You have to be at just the right rpm though, I think around 40km/h in 2nd.
@bandguy360 Only what I suggested to you in my reply to your last comment.... but your powerband might be a bit different from mine so just experiment snapping the throttle closed and back open at different speeds and see what feels good... or failing that just start playing with slipping the clutch a bit to get the front up!
How do you like it? I saw one at my local dealer but I'm think that the price is a little high (2007 8k miles for 3,300) plus tag and title and all that, I wondering if it's worth it.
@ThaBR33D It's good on trails and gravel roads, back roads, and in town, but not good on the highway. If you're not going to go on trails etc the SM is way more fun on the street, and a bit smoother at high speeds. I didn't ride it off road so I ended up selling it. Fun bike though, as long as you don't plan on doing extended distances. The poor seat and gearing will drain you pretty quickly :)
i just got a hand lever for the rear brake, it is bad a@s, you can stand on the rear pegs all day and ride wheelies, it really makes it easy, you can get the kits on ebay they are about 50 bucks
DOOD! you must be good to learn wheelie like that in a week! It took me a month or so.. But there was break in and it was my first bike bigger than 50cc. One week is still very short! If the clutch slips it might be time to change the plates..
Thanks! It helps that I can wheelie my mountain bike at the balance point all day long with no problem. I am definitely not at that point on the bike, but it helped me get this far pretty quickly! :) Now the hard part of actually getting to balance point. Doesn't help that you can't see in front of you :P But up hills like this one is nice for that.
As for the clutch, it doesn't slip at all in normal riding, it just slips too much when you go to clutch up a wheelie. :)
Thanks man. I have seen a few people go with both feet on the back pegs but it would scare the crap out of me not having the rear brake. I will have to give staggered a go.
I am pretty new and not great, but here is my experience so far.... it's MUCH easier uphill. It's easier to bring the front end up, because you're already leaned backwards effectively, and also you can get to the balance point more easily and safely. Other than that, just be smooth (basically ignore my AWFUL throttle inputs in this video haha), and keep your foot on the rear brake, ready to hit it at any moment. Also, learn to wheelie on smooth roads. And check out tutorial vids on here...
Thanks, actually I would have used it, but when I try and clutch it up it just slips too much. I rode a new DRZ and that would grab really nicely for clutch ups in 2nd and 3rd, but mine just seems to slip (just got the bike used, maybe clutch has seen some abuse :P ). But I found if I snap the throttle open, closed, open it will come up in 2nd without clutch.
You can clutch these bikes up in 3rd completely stock

@addyer You find it difficult to wheelie stock? I think your just scared of the throttle son.
187Premises 4 months ago
@187Premises Son? From your videos you sound like a 16 year old muggins.
For your info this was before finding a problem with the jetting
Now rocking a full arrow race system and 3x3 mod with pair valve removed
Wheelies in 3rd on power and 4th with clutch no probs :)
Now jog on with that horrible drz of yours with bbq painted rusty standard header and shitty remus that sounds like a wet fart lol!!

@addyer Lol blame it on jetting!
