@gophop I was just going to post the same thing. Audi took the 5.0 Lamborghini engine and made it a 5.2 for their own cars which Lambo decided to use for a more powerful Gallardo.

@E46325mod Of course it would.  This car had to be detuned from stock power for the racing series. The 722 GT is for a one make series and makes more than production power. With a 170 bhp advantage I should seriously hope it beats the R8.

the reason this car costs so little in racing terms is because the engine is left basically unmodified. i think largely the only modification done is weight reduction and the rear wheel drive system (including new traction control & ABS).

It's amazing. I really like it. I never was a big fan of R8 even with the V10, but this one is just sensational (as Jeremy says!). The only thing that I didn't like was the lack between gear changes from the moment that he clicks the pedals until it actually changes the gear. But overall it is fantastic. If I had the money I would go for it!

And he managed to do a lap only 4 tenths of a second slower than the Honda's official test driver, in a very cold weather (if you know F1 cars, you should know that it gets very tricky to get grip with F1 tyres under those conditions)

Chris "Monkey" Harris used to be with Autocar, alot of Autocar's first vids were with Chris before he went to make Driver's Republic and then ending up at EVO.

Steve Sutcliffe "fat dude" (in your words) is a great driver, and does a good job at the vids, not as good as Chris. and they're both friends still from the days they both worked at Autocar.

I recall watching a German documentary on the building of the Audi A8. The documentary claimed that the V10 engine is directly from Audi and not Lambo; However, the transmission?gearbox is indeed from Lambo.

Can anyone get some hard facts and confirm this?

Well, Audi first took the 5.0 V10 engine from Lambo and they redesigned for S6 to be quieter, more frugal and more of an every day engine to produce 430 hp. Then they beefed it up with a pair of turbos to produce 580 hp in the RS6.

This is a 5.2L V10 again redesigned a bit by Audi to be less powerful and quiter.

@sspope - yes you are correct. Remember also though the 5.0 V10 was designed with Audi's help in the beginning and was manufactured mostly by Audi using a lot of their parts. The V12 in the Murcielago was also updated when Audi took over Lambo - with their help. Also - the Gallardo now uses Audi's 5.2 V10...less restricted of course.
