Many times when you walk into a pod, close the door, and press START, it will say, "There is a slight delay. We will be on our way as soon as possible." Usually the delay is only 5 or 10 seconds. If the pod next to you is backing out, your pod will delay it's backing out until the area behind it is clear. All the pods are controlled by a central computer.
