man i remember swimming in there as a kid. i was disappointed to see no swimming signs last time i was there in 10. hoped it was just a temp thing. guess not....

It's for the same reason that Disney's River Country waterpark was shut down, a deadly bacteria was found to be seeping up through the bed of the swamp into the water back in 2001, so by state regulations all the water had to be quarantined for a minimum of 10 years. They tested the water again last summer in hopes that the bacteria had disappeared, but found it to quadrupled in amount throughout the property. -.-
@4BRVWasaga Basically the bacteria enters your body by being injested in the water or absorbed through your skin, and travels to your brain where it can lead to death. It was found in a swimming lake near my hometown, it's usually associated with pond or swamp water. -_-' And Disneyworld is actually one giant swamp, even though they call the bodies of water "lakes" because the word sounds prettier. It's sad, really.
