with my black boxed am3x6 core cpu cost me $250 while the best of the Intel cpu's x6core's costs about $600- $900 and have seen some for like $1500
and if running in SLI the cpu slows right the hell down Sure my pc and its 10 fans is like sitting next to a JET but its runs so much faster while i am yet to over clock it

@lockergnome You forgot to mention the fact that a comparable GPU for a mac will cost 3-5 times more than it's PC counterpart. You don't upgrade mac's because it is not cost effective, you throw them away and buy a new one. I respect the knowledge you have in these matters but I ask you to still be honest with people.
There is user friend I.E training wheels but then there is performance. Try going down a mountain on a kids bike with training wheels compared to the much harder to use but better mountain bike. Just saying.
I have used PCs and Macs since 1992. Through the 90s I stuck with PCs but since buying my first Mac in 2001 (a computer which is still running well today) I have really felt that Windows is significantly behind Apple, especially in terms of user experience. I have tried out Linux at various points too and while it has improved significantly, it still can't touch OSX as a user friendly OS.Every time I use a PC for any length of time, the sense of pleasure when I return t my Mac is overwhelming!

Also in terms of hardware, my 2007 Macbook which has been stuffed in backpacks, carried in bicycle panniers, and generally abused for most of its life has never put a foot wrong. My aforementioned PowerMac from 2001 (admittedly a £2500 machine when it was new) can still outperform a lot of new machines today.
@Androidindisguise The Powermac in question is a dual 1.25ghz processor machine,2gb ram,7200 250gb hdd and a decent graphics card. OK, it won't outperform a top spec new pc but I have tested it with a dual core pc with 2gb ram and found that things like burning a dvd or performing photoshop tasks run faster on the Mac. It also boots into OS 10.4 faster than the PC will into Windows 7. Sure, it's not a perfect test and of course the pc will beat it sometimes but a PC from 2001?laughable!

i was a Computer Science student, and i used windows a lot because when it comes to programming , windows is the best in that part. Then i used my friend's Mac if i want to do some editing because its more faster and stable. I always want a mac for my own. But now im addicted to gaming and customizing PC so gotta choose pc for that. But if I can run mac os and windows at the same time, I would do that. Im running 7 and Ubuntu using GRUB at the moment.
One thing that helped eliminate the lag of my Windows based PC was getting rid of laggy anti-virus program (McAfee) and replacing it with Microsoft Security Essentials which has almost no bloat to it. I don't know if Macs appear to run quicker due not having to run anti-virus (which is a market share not a tech issue).. it would be interesting if that was the case.

They both are designed for completely different things. PCs are alot better with gaming, and using random programs, and browsing. Mac is basically music art and video editing and thats about it.

The "design" of OS X and windows has little to do with how capable either is of playing games, browsing, or any type of media editing. Gaming has some dependence on hardware, which is why many gamers build their own computers and are stuck using windows, besides that good software could be made to do the same things just as well for either OS.

Being a PC user, of course you get more wows out of using a mac at first. I have plenty of fun on my PC and I really don't need some gimmick to make me spend double on a product. Of course it'd be great if you had windows versatility with OSX's user-friendly ("Wow-look-at-this") features.
It all depends on want you need from your computer. I don't really need my computer to be user friendly. I dictate how my PC runs. So I tend to save money and stay away from macs.

Mac is great for travelling and carrying around. However, for functionality, speed and flexibility and from what it seems now even security, Windows 7 my friends. It is snappier than Vista and XP, has more flexible interface, can support significantly faster hardware than Xp's, Vistas or Mac and well cheaper still.

For the average computer user there is ABSOLUTELY NO appreciable difference between a Mac or a PC. The disagreement on this point is driven by MARKETING.
Sure, you may argue that Macs go "click, click, boom" while the PC goes "click, boom, click", but when it comes down to it they both freeze and lag and screw up at the same rate (in my experience).
My BIG reason for preferring PCs over the IMAC is that I can crack the case and install new hardware lickety-split. This is, I'm sure, a baffling concept for people who just want a TV as a computer and aren't of a mind to tinker with the inner workings of their computer's hardware.
I have a 4 year old Dell PC with the factory installed OS that runs just fine and I use it ALL THE TIME.
I've been entertaining the idea of an iMac running games with bootcamp. Whether or not I go for a Mac on my next desktop computer might depend on how I like Windows 7. It's kind of hard for me on the hardware side in knowing that I can get more specs for less with another brand, but I figure by the time I get to the point where I'm in the market for a new purchase, those things will change a bit.

who the hell uses audacity for audio editing?? There's practically no functionality in it, and repeating the video..no interface/ugly interface. Audio recording/editing is way better in Logic Pro or Garageband. Audacity makes me f'n laugh.

i was a Computer Science student, and i used windows a lot because when it comes to programming , windows is the best in that part. Then i used my friend's Mac if i want to do some editing because its more faster and stable. I always want a mac for my own. But now im addicted to gaming and customizing PC so gotta choose pc for that. But if I can run mac os and windows at the same time, I would do that. Im running 7 and Ubuntu using GRUB at the moment.

One thing that helped eliminate the lag of my Windows based PC was getting rid of laggy anti-virus program (McAfee) and replacing it with Microsoft Security Essentials which has almost no bloat to it. I don't know if Macs appear to run quicker due not having to run anti-virus (which is a market share not a tech issue).. it would be interesting if that was the case.

The Mac is for creation argument is stupid. The best industry standard music and art software is for PC and MAC the hardware in a MAc is the same as in a PC The only diference is a more reliable operating system in a Mac but the reliability of a PC is exadurated.

They both are designed for completely different things. PCs are alot better with gaming, and using random programs, and browsing. Mac is basically music art and video editing and thats about it.

The "design" of OS X and windows has little to do with how capable either is of playing games, browsing, or any type of media editing. Gaming has some dependence on hardware, which is why many gamers build their own computers and are stuck using windows, besides that good software could be made to do the same things just as well for either OS.

Besides have you ever tried upgrading a graphics card on a Mac, or tried to replace a sound card? Mac is great for travelling and carrying around. However, for functionality, speed and flexibility and from what it seems now even security, Windows 7 my friends. It is snappier than Vista and XP, has more flexible interface, can support significantly faster hardware than Xp's, Vistas or Mac and well cheaper still.

For the average computer user there is ABSOLUTELY NO appreciable difference between a Mac or a PC. The disagreement on this point is driven by MARKETING.
Sure, you may argue that Macs go "click, click, boom" while the PC goes "click, boom, click", but when it comes down to it they both freeze and lag and screw up at the same rate (in my experience).

My BIG reason for preferring PCs over the IMAC is that I can crack the case and install new hardware lickety-split. This is, I'm sure, a baffling concept for people who just want a TV as a computer and aren't of a mind to tinker with the inner workings of their computer's hardware.
I have a 4 year old Dell PC with the factory installed OS that runs just fine and I use it ALL THE TIME.

I've been entertaining the idea of an iMac running games with bootcamp. Whether or not I go for a Mac on my next desktop computer might depend on how I like Windows 7. It's kind of hard for me on the hardware side in knowing that I can get more specs for less with another brand, but I figure by the time I get to the point where I'm in the market for a new purchase, those things will change a bit.
