These movies were poorly written and the dubbing made them even more nonsensical. However, it's the reason we love them anyway. The old guy is the son of the snake master who was defeated in the first scene of the movie. This was his fate after his father died. He became beggar. The priest is a spy looking for any remaining snake fist fighters. The eagle fist guy is probably the son of the former master trying to continue his father quest of destroying his rivals. There you have it.
