Interesting but a dumb idea. Technology is only proving how lazy we all are. Doing the actual autopsy is the best way to find the cause of death, not the use of these machines.
I think this is a very good thing. Just think about the possibilities if we could use this to eventually perform autopsies on everyone and find info on things such as elderly abuse. At this point it can't replace the autopsy, but it could definatley add jobs in the future just like the integration of EMR's and Informatics Nurses. By new technology, you may fade out a profession, but you always add a new one.
It may be expensive now but in a few years time it would be affordable to any hospitals, polices etc. This will take away the the jobs of pathologists like medical examiners and coroners!!
I think the Virtual Autopsy is helpful, but I think You still need to cut them open because you can't always count on technology. I learned that when the robot messed up on my Godfather's open heart sugery. They made a simple operation life threatning. So I think opening them up would be more benifitial
at the end of the day you will stil have to cut them open to get samples from the organs and other parts of the body. You can't solely depend on visual analyzation! I don't think that this technology will be used in the for-seeable future. No need to worry about loss of jobs :P
@maccyao We CAN rely solely on visual analysis. We obviously can't chop up living people and completely rely on the images obtained through CT, MRI, Sonography to diagnose people, so who is to say we wont eventually be able to determine cause of death by CT/MRI? And maybe they will come up with new non-invasive techniques to gain lab samples...And they are already using this in Sweden, U.S on military deaths, and doing research at University of Maryland.
I want to go to medical school, but I really hope by the time I get out machines havent taken over. Im really fascinated by this profession. Don't mind my terrible spelling.

Someone in India, working for just $2 an hour, will analyze the results from a computer.

sorry, but I wouldn't want someone in India working for $2 an hour to analyze the CT of a dead body to determine cause of death...
