  • man they have great taste in music.

  • is it just me or is carrie the perfect girl.

  • I mean Carrie's a fucking musician, do you expect her not to like music?

  • Stop saying what is and what isn't hipster. All this effort to try to make a subculture for a decade like punk or goth, but it's all a bunch of idiots placing generalizations.

  • Paul Weller STILL makes great music, Fred! "Bitterness Rising" is one of the best songs ever!! And PiL has such a timeless sound. Always sounds fresh, which Johnny Rotten probably hates anyone ever saying, but he doesn't scare me-- I'm way bigger than him.

  • @cpob1688 true...Paul Weller is still incredible. The Style Council is still in my top bands list for EVER. great stuff. and yes PIL is still fierce and perfect. good days,.

  • they're in love. and if they're not, they should be. <3

  • stop being a bitch nance

  • I''m like, in love with them.

  • love these guys. BICYCLE RIGHT

  • Yes these are hipster bands, if you're 50 !!! People who strained so desperately to be cool in the 90s would name-check these same bands all the time but usually be listening to Pearl Jam or Oasis in reality.

  • sleater kinney was always hipster music

  • hipsters are always like,"WHAT? When did such and such become hipster?"

  • Anyone who thinks Captain Beefheart is "hipster music" they are sorely mistaken

  • I'm from Brazil. She likes Os Mutantes. That's cool.

  • @USAGlobalVideoCorp On a more positive note, I really like some of the music on your channel (the original stuff, or what I take to be original).

  • Comment removed

  • UGH get up is my favorite sleater kinney song

  • I don't watch much TV, but love watching Portlandia!

  • my respect for Fred Armisen has tripled at his giving credit to the Stranglers , and Style Council

  • @USAGlobalVideoCorp Uh... do you know them all personally, in depth? I'm glad you like Corin Tucker and recognize her talent, but who are you to say which members of the bands are "posers" and don't contribute anything.. Sounds like you're just being negative instead of making a meaningful critical comment...

  • So liking non-mainstream music automatically makes you a douchebag or whatever? That's kind of judgmental. They have good taste in music, I like those bands too...

  • You guys are champs!

  • I love that Fred loves Sleater-Kinney =)

  • I adore when mrn put their love in my trunk you know what I mean haha

  • im never going back to LA lake no here i come

  • I want to punch him in the hair

  • lol @ people calling this hipster. none of the bands they mention are hipster. they're old school 80s and 90s punk/post-punk/alternative bands

  • @solecontroller alot of 70s rock and roll in there too

  • @solecontroller Hipsters suck—merely from the pretentious proclamation of superior taste by those who define themselves as hipster. If your tastes can be confined 2 such a narrow label, then you're probably trying too hard 2 be “hip”. Coolness shouldn’t be a highly premeditated & rigid dogma of who's in/out. Those of us who can embrace dated/mainstream stuff R willing 2 do so despite whatever the rest of you all think, & I'd say that's where hipness rests. PS. the 80s/90s set the stage

  • @solecontroller That's what's completely hipster about it. This could be a bit on Portlandia.

  • @solecontroller isnt that the point?

  • Did she just describe Captain Beefheart as "avant-garde"? Psychedelic southern rock from 40 years ago is avant-garde?

  • @jonfitforbattle. uh, Captain Beefheart is not just "psychedelic southern rock". He's not even southern rock at all. Captain Beefhear was a mix of blues, rock, r&b, free jazz, experimental avant-garde

  • @solecontroller lol did you copy that from the Wikipedia page? Anyway, blues + rock = southern rock, holmes. And that's all beside the point because what I was really getting at is that something can hardly be considered "avant-garde" if it's been around for 40 years, because by definition avant-garde describes artists at the forefront of their genre

  • If Sleater-Kinney is now hipster music, something is very, very wrong.

  • I think in the future, Wild flag will be on plenty of people's lists.

  • Holy shit, some of these comments are some of the most pedantic and inutile comments I've ever read.

  • Comment removed

  • "hipster music" what the fuck is that? Anyway, the Slits weren't post-punk, they were plain punk rock.

  • IF ONLY I COULD INTERN FOR YOU GUYS AT M.M.I.

    Damn.

  • Both Fred and Carrie would like MY TIGER LILY!

  • These guys keep getting better and better. Beefheart, the Stranglers, Os Mutantes...they have great tastes!

  • Comment removed

  • I love Carrie. Very intelligent woman.

I love Portlandia. I am from portland, born and raised!

The show has truth to it.

    I love their humor.

And, I don't think ignorant, uneducated trash who comment negatively on here are worth anything, and should maybe go get a life and stop saying ignorant/mean things about others and their work to make themselves feel better...

There are other ways to cope with your worthlessness than doing that. Maybe, by making yourself worth something first.

  • How could you guys not mention Horse Water, Free Range Top Hat, What's That Smell!, Curb Stomp, Clown Puke, Dirty Laundry, N.O.T. R.E.A.L., & The Chicken Kickers? I thought you guys listened to good artists!

  • I don't understand all these comments. these are GREAT BANDS and Portlandia is really funny. I think it's cool; growing up, some SNL cast members are legendary in my eyes and the bands that Carrie played in were pivotal in my adolecesnts. plus getting to live in Portland for a while makes me appreciate it more. if youre all so pissed off, pick up a guitar and buy a microphone. Dicks.

i dont want to get it

  • Fred Armisen looks like crap.

  • IFC stands for I Fuck'd Carrie

  • sleeter king get up?! lol

  • Fred, I just KNOW you understand PIL's Second Edition. Let me know if you do!

  • The Strangles are a good choice Fred. thanks for remembering them. I just picked up their greatest hits. Great job you guys are doing with Portlandia. Makes me want to visit again soon!

  • You've all been trolled. The joke is to stand there and improv the most ridiculous made-up band names with a straight face. They might put in a few names to try to fool us, but it all just nonsense. You can see them break character occasionally.

  • @YesdogLive Yes, we were all trolled. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough money and my family was eaten alive. And yes, bands as PIL and The Slits or even Brownstein's own Sleater-Kinney are fake as well. Yesdoglive. Yes. Dawg. Live. And Fred Armisen corpses nearly ALL THE TIME. It's so frustrating. So much worse than Fallon or Sanz. Except for Garth and Kat, which he improvs so flawlessly with Wiig. It's like you and I are the only sane ones on the YouTubesz.

  • You've all been trolled. The joke is to stand there and improv the most ridiculous made-up band names with a straight face.

  • The Stranglers?!?!? Never thought I'd hear anyone mention them over here. I grew up in England from 74-83 and saw the Stranglers many times. Just awesome shows, always tight sounding with great crowds. Their first five albums; Rattus Norvegicus, No More Heroes, Black & White, The Raven and Meninblack are the Stranglers gospel. Timeless, raw and powerful. I remember when The Police came on the scene, NME's headline was, "The Police! Bigger Than The Stranglers???".

  • @PLANTATlON I see what you did there.

  • i watched one episode, dont plan on watching more. fred, stick to snl. other girl, stick to... my dick

  • @jmn1228

    Ew, right.

Go somewhere else with your ignorant, and really stupid comment.

  • Y@heidifeight. Don't like it, don't read it

  • Hipsters listening to hipster music while making a hipster show on a hipster network that makes fun of hipsters.

  • @Comeback64

Hipster music? Most of their picks were well known classic punk. The Stranglers, The Slits, The Specials, Husker Du, PIL.....those aren't exactly hidden gems.

  • @Comeback64 Hipsters dont like anything, they only hate what others like.

  • @Comeback64 ironic overflow *head explodes*

  • @Comeback64 i support that

  • Comment removed

  • Who else found this from iGoogle?

  • Stranglers are cool. Straighten Out is a good tune.

  • nice

  • Thanks for the music suggestions. Listening to PIL right now. Public Image has that 80's feel.

  • the show is weird, but funny... i really like it and enjoy seeing many more episodes (hopefully). i am from portland, so i totally get what they're talking about, but i wonder about those that aren't from here and are watching it...

  • Portlandia is OVER.

  • that show SUCKS. it looks like it's made by people who stopped in portland for a weekend. it's sooooo dumb. she should know better.

it's so so disappointing. cuz it could have been realllly funny. there's enough weird crap in pdx that you don't need to exaggerate stupid things that don't really happen there.

  • Peace, love and happiness for all 8-)

  • God I hate Riot Grrl music...

  • i dont like em

  • man this is so hipster

  • Who says they have to be original?

It says they're sharing their favorite music videos, not that they're doing anything cutting edge. Besides they're lame anyways what do you expect, not everyone can be awesome at everything.

  • Comment removed

  • all bad choices, no one did anything creative or new. You were probably paid to pick these

  • I love Fred Armisen.♥

  • I can't tell if your in character or not

  • @MileMarc lol, me too!

  • @MileMarc seriously?

  • Comment removed

  • @MileMarc a lot of their characters are inspired from who they are and the people theyve associated with

  • As a Portland Oregon native I absoultely love this show, and not because it takes place in my hometown, but because it makes fun of my hometown, and it pulls no punches. We seem to be awash with post grunge post punk hipsters, who really tend to be pretentious elitist snobs, and a group ripe for parody. Its a fresh, intelligent, and quirky in an honest way look at Pacific Northwest urban culture.

    Oh and I love Sleater-Kinney.

  • Portlandia sucks! SNL nowadays is just awful and the actors that r there for a few months now want their OWN boring shows. Pretty sad...

  • @babaca675 hmm, I think SNL's funnier then ever and all the actors are amazing! Will Ferrel was on SNL and he moved onto starring in movies and he's a big hit. That's exactly what other cast members are doing. They gotta move on sometime ya knoww.

  • @babaca675 i highly doubt you've even watched SNL recently hence you have no idea whether it's awful or not your just assuming its awful because your tiny pee brain wouldn't know funny from a sack of potatoes! Have you looked at the TV ratings lately?oh no you haven't? well maybe you should because SNL is one of the most watched shows on television so yeah your probably one of the only people who think it's "boring" when actuality is it's a hilarious highly praised show.

  • @babaca675 In addition, you say the actors want their own show?please elaborate and explain which actors want that because i've heard of no such thing and i'm an avid SNL watcher and know almost everything about. it. Furthermore i agree completely with SMileyxo88. Obviously thier not going to stay on SNL forever, most use SNL as a starting point for their career and as they get into more sketches and get bigger roles movie executives start to notice them and want them in their movies.

  • @babaca675 is it such a crime that they accept the offer and have a role in a movie? i think it's smart of them because if they were to turn it down where would their career go? movies is where its at and that's how you become a major star so next time you type some negative comment on youtube why don't you try thinking before you start insulting things you know nothing about. k thanks<3;*

  • Carrie is lesbian for all you non-females pining after her.
