This is exactly why the US military should never be under the command of foreign officers. We've made plenty of mistakes, but for German commanders to conclude everyone on the ground was an insurgent based on ONE intelligence source (who later turned out to be nowhere near the scene!), was just amateurish. I don't know why the German commander didn't send in his own troops to do battle. Maybe he figured if the air strike went wrong, America would be blamed. I guess he was right.
