The canned version is by far more tasty than the bottle. The bottle hardly has any taste.

Have to agree, old speckled hen is damn good too. Another interesting one is old peculiar, although a little too gassy for me it's still very good, and strong^^.

And unfortunately for me in my local area, all the pub's are hook norton, and hooky just tastes like water.

Wow, I have seen some interesting comments. First Ale is beer. Ale is a beer fermented with a top fermenting yeast. With the aggressive pour, you can get rid of excessive CO2 so that you have more chance to sample the beer and the fine phenolics get released so that you can smell the goodness to enhance it's taste. I realize that most of the comments were from the UK, so do you just think all Americans drink fizzy swill? Some of the newest and most extreme styles are coming out of America.

I love Hobgoblin. Every ale I've tried from Wychwood is delicious, actually. You poured it wrong, but this is redeemed by your "Ghetto British Accent" and "if you're sleeping on the street, and drinking one of these, you're sleeping on the street in style". Too right!

When we get bottles of beer over hear that have been sitting on a shelf for an extended period... And are made of clear glass... They tend to get "skunked".  You loose a lot of flavor, and gain some unwelcome ones.

The cans are not affected by age and light the same way... They bring us a more representitive taste to what we came to love in England.

I can see that the aggressive pours may look offensive. How are you getting your Goblin over their in the UK. If you are getting bottles, then I would think you have to pour it very similar, or you will have a beer that is more carbonated than what you are used to an "the draw".

When we pour it so "hard", its in an effort to bring the carbonation down to a level that we remember while over in the UK. When drinking it fresh.

YOu need to tip the glass.

The shape od the head of the bottle is shaped in such away that this can be done easily. Pour slowly.

This way, you can drink it straight away, with none of that unmasculine fizzyness that may be seen in american beers.
