I have a 35mm copy of this, found it in a drawer at a movie theater I worked at. How did you get this transferred? I have a bunch of other stuff on 35mm I'd love to get transferred to video in decent quality.
1:36, "Aparrently saved from total destruction today." If I was that newscaster I would be like, "HOLY CRAP WE'RE SAVED!!! WE'RE ALIVE!!!! OMGOMGOMG!!!!!!!".
I remember seeing this commercial at the theater when i was a kid. I just can't remember what movie was playing. It might have been Raiders of the Lost Ark, but it could have been Tron.
just... wow! Never seen this. seems that a lot of game footage would be from early builds? Like the Night Stalker character wasn't red, among other things.
Was this commercial made using an Intellivision?

Luke: What?
Bobby: Lets Promote the Worst Games Made for our Video Computing System.
Luke: That is a Terrable Idea.
Bobby: Too late. ^^
Luke: Fuck you.

It's sad this ad made the Intellivision look horrible.

Yeah this commercial only ran in theaters before the show started. I've wanted to see it again since '82. Love youtube! Thanks for posting it!

by the look of it, they rotoscoped real actors for this and animated on computer, pretty cool for the time

Is the guy who does He-Man in it? He sounds just like John Irwin....one year before that he-man show (another product of Mattel)!!!

That was a great commercial! Rather long, but I liked it. BTW, why did the anchorlady give the weather report?

i'm starting to wonder if this whole animation was done on an Intellivision...

Awesome!!! I love Space Battle!!

That sound like it came from the movie theater and it's also the same year that the TRON movie was released that year(1982).
Retrodude1985 4 years ago 4
that would have been an interesting attraction to accompany Tron, indeed.

Why does it seem like black/african american news anchors back then were always covering sports and nothing else?? Is it just me?
DevSodDribble 4 years ago
I can't believe this--that's rotoscope animation circa 1982. Am I wrong?
howelldrake 4 years ago 4
Rotoscoping actually goes back to the earliest days of animation if I'm not mistaken.
gguru1 3 years ago
@howelldrake rotoscoping is an old technique, but to do it to then animate on computer was certainly innovative at that point in time
