Outline geometry by spline in 3ds max and extrude it to editable poly

Hello. I am wondering if you know why when I try to add an outline to a closed spline, the amount I set it to never stays permanently. As soon as I let go of the mouse, the amount always reverts back to zero.

Convert your line to editable spline and apply the extrude-modifier to it (adjust the extrude modifiers' params also). Afterwords you can conver all together to editable poly or mesh.

Extrude-modifier params: Cap Start and Cap End will help you to build the upper and lower surfaces.
