  • just incredible!

  • Saw them in Austin. One of the best shows I've ever seen. Their best studio track is the single of "De-Orbit Burn," mixed by Scanner. I'd like to have a fan's video of it, albeit without any Dawn of the Dead imagery.

  • Saw Hovercraft twice here in Montreal. First show was in 1996 and that was sorta crowded because they advertised it as a Vedder-related band. The show was amazing and the crowd thinned when people realized he was not in the band and that it was post-rocky space rock.

The second gig ...well, it was a miracle that I even heard about it. For some reason a gig poster caught my eye on a telephone poll on Saint-Laurent. It was a dark photocopy on dark green paper...not eye-catching, really...

  • @horseytown ...but I noticed the word "Hovercraft" and the imagery fit the bill for the band I knew by that name. THing was...I had never heard of the club and it was way up in Cote de Niege. For months I looked into if this was real... if there was even a club by that name...I found NOTHING... there were no ads in the weekly alternative mags...nothing. I managed to talk three friends into driving into the city and finding this club based on nothing but the flyer I tore down months earlier..

  • @horseytown We went into this place and asked if it was called "equinoxe". The bartenderess confirmed that they had recently changed the name to Equinoxe. I asked if there was a band playing there that night. She said that she didn't think so, but that sometimes there was cabaret. It had the layout of a family restaurant: lots of windows, high ceilings, lots of chairs and booths, a oval-shaped car that was circled with stools... but the little stage was all blocked off and there was no signs of

  • @horseytown life at all. My girlfriend at the time felt pressured to let our friends off the hook and just head home... I was determined to stay all night if need be. I convinced them to sit down in a booth. The evidence was mounting against me: the bartenders had not heard that a band was playing and the only people there were six or seven barflys sitting around the bar, some of them quite aged. None of it made any sense.

Just then a group of youngish people came in and sat down at another

  • @horseytown booth. The jukebox was still cranking Allman Brothers or some damned thing... we sat and waited.

Then, all of a sudden we saw movement in the dark space in front of us. A form walked out and started to place a few pedals on the tiled dance floor a mere twelve feet from our booth. Someone obscured by darkness unveiled a drum kit and then started making adjustments. A small screen was erected and a woman plugged in a bass. This all occurred very quickly but in total silence.

  • @horseytown The jukebox had stopped...the lights cut out over us and the reel to reel stock footage began to roll as - unceremoniously and without any salutations or acknowledgment of the nine spectators - Hovercraft began to play.

They then just about tore the roof off for the next 50 minutes...all the while trashy waitresses and hammered barflys continued to yammer on in the background as if they were the regular Saturday night house band. Easily the most surreal performance/gig I ever..

  • @horseytown attended. It was INCREDIBLE... and no one was there. I rather wish we had spoken to the other small group of kids.

Oh, and a Google Maps search of the address reveals that the bar at 5235 Chemain De La Cote-Des-Neiges is now a BBQ Chicken family restaurant.

  • Awesome, thanks! One of the few bands that I've made a point to actually see a live show of, 'twas quite amazing...

  • Great vid, thanks! Finally found some, went to see them live at the 40 watt in 1999, with one other person, it was pouring rain and nobody showed up, yep, they played for just the two of us....thank you very much the show was great, like seeing pink floyd in 1971 or something!
