After viewing this video, I just added Dr. Lonnie Smith and Joey Defranceso as a great find! Both are equally wonderful to listen to and to watch. Dr. Lonnie Smith's smile, just as addictive as his style of playing!
Joey not only has his own style which is also addictive, but looks so captured in his playing and he plays with gusto! They have joined Jack McDuff, my 1st love on the jazz organ! All three are in the same league, and all 3 keeps me ordering more and more of their song's!
Of course Dr. Smith's playing is virtuoso, as is of course Joey's. Yet check out the turban - he winds it with the same care and artistry that he puts into his playing- I checked out a YouTube page on how to wind a turban, and Lonnie's turban is the real deal, not a imitation, as you may see in the 1950's turbanned organ player Korla Pandit. You need a 5 meter by 40 cm. light cotton cloth to wind one. Great style!
can we invent "air-organ" playing for these two?
