  • Precious lord lead me on praise the lord.

  • @dbassey3 needed to hear this one especially today thank you so much and what a talent oh my

  • Many of the younger people today who hear Aretha today don't realize why we older heads make such a fuss over her. This woman is 70 years old or close to it and has been singing since she was 5y/o. All those years are bound to take a toll on anyones vocal cords...but when we older people hear her today we see her in her totallity. Aretha was unmatched in her prime and could bring the house down at anytime she pleased. She could sing the yellow pages and make you shout to it before you knew it.

  • @READY4REVELATION LOL. I have heard everything but NOT the Yellow pages...but you sure as right as rain.

  • this was my grannys song!!...R.I.H...granny ily

  • I just love Aretha and that's for real. She entered my heart in 1967 and someone stole my album but they couldn't steal my love for this lady

    Love Debra

  • MAGIC....

  • fan fekkin tastic

  • Queen Mother Mahaliah! << Then Queen of soul Aretha...

  • Patti and Aretha are queens in there own rights and paved the way for y ounger acts...However, mahalia jackson is the Queen of all to me

  • WADE, thanks for posting this video. My beautiful daughter (23), was killed in a car accident tonight, and I needed this. God bless you.

  • @MimiDove9 Be strong my dear...God's got you covered! May he be your pillar of strength

  • @MimiDove9 Oh My Lord Bless Your Heart, MimiDove I don't know you But I AM PRAYING WITH YOU AND FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

  • @MimiDove9 i know this was a few months ago, but i will keep you and your family in my prayers.

  • @MimiDove9

I am sorry to read this. My prayer goes out to you. I can not imagine the grief you must be experiencing...my daughter who is 15 was sheltered all her life and her dad has flown the coop and it leaves me to care for her as a single parent. She is asking to engage in activities with friends and I pray to God he keeps her, but I have come to understand God's will so with that I say...my prayer goes out to you to make it through this difficult time.

  • @MimiDove9 I'm So sorry for you Loss.

  • @MimiDove9 god bless you and keep you. i'm so sorry for your loss.

  • Patti fans make me laugh with their silly antics if you think Patti deserve the Queen of Soul and etc than watch your queen ya'll can all debate but the real Queen is the one who has the crown that's Aretha get over it and move on she don't have to be the Queen to you it can be someone else but to fans and music critics and music history she is now and that goes for all those for Teena Marie and etc fans too now stop with the foolery

  • @eugenemusictv Amen!!!

  • @eugenemusictv Say that!!!!

  • God's gift to he world= Aretha! Nuff Said!

  • People kill me when trying to downgrade others. These women of gospel are truly blessed to have the voices and talent, that god has installed in them. If you don't like gospel thats your problem. And no where on this earth does Elvis compare to these ladies. He from a whole didnt world/backround then they are. THAT'S MY OPINION... I LOVE GOOD MUSIC, WHOEVER IT MAY COME FROM. THAT'S WHY WE HAVE SOME MANY STYLES OF MUSIC. SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. DON'T LISTEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT. ITS THAT SIMPLE

  • I don't think Tina Marie was that great. I think Aretha is unique and truly the queen of soul.

  • @Ripley1156 Teena Marie-Ivory Queen Of Soul-it aint 1 white soul singer that can touch teena?

i love aretha but her fans r on some beyonce ish she is the Queen Of Soul not Music there are other Queens out there for everybody

    Mahalia-Queen Of Gospel

Tina Turner-Queen Of Rock & Roll

Patti Labelle-Queen Of Rhythm & Soul

    Gladys Knight-Queen Of R&B

    Chaka Khan-Queen Of Funk & R&B

Whitney Houston-Queen of Pop & R&B....many queens retha aint runnin ish by herself they all are!

  • @OneTrillNigga07 I'm a little confused. what do you mean by "ivory queen of soul"? huh? There are many singers, especially many other soul singers who are so much better. I think Aretha is definitely the Queen o Soul PERIOD!

  • @Ripley1156 ivory=white if u know anything about soul u would know that was teena marie's (rip) title and like i said aretha is excellent here but everybody knows her attitude is stank! aretha was the undisputed queen in the 60-late 70's but imo patti labelle is far more deserving of the title! for her works and live shows from 80's to present!

  • @OneTrillNigga07...Go back to Patti's page with this stuff...Aretha's attitude is not more "stank" than the rest of them..You really need to get your facts straight!

  • @Ripley1156 When u are talking about "The Queen" Aretha is that, you can ask any of these women, except Mahalia and they will tell you the same. Aretha was given that title by her peers as well as her fans. She is the Queen...Period.

  • @amoneek88 sure is but lets not forget soul is not the only genre in the world!

  • Aretha LET the Lord please take your hand , where He can take you away from the worldliness ways of singing, REPENT and RETURN to performing and singing God's hymns, psalms, and words of restoration , then, maybe "amazing grace" great healing will come to our land 2 Chronicles 7:14-15. The Lord has given you another chance to "do His good and perfect will" Romans 12:1-2. The people today want to be "christiantained" the carnal, apostate Christian's version of entertainment. Sing "godly" gospel

  • Praise - PRAISE - the Lord - Praise THE LORD - (in all our words and doings) -

Jesus ChristourLordandGodourFather - JESUS CHRIST The Son of God, (the SON of God our Father, our FATHER), Precious Lord, who died for us and our sins, after the scriptures, 1.Cor.15, ((the scriptures is the prophetic and apostolic word of God and whitness to us and for us, and Jesus Christ is the Word of God, God Himself, the livingtrue appening orgiving esolvingrescueingforandtous, through his blood through HIMSELF

  • I dont care who you people believe is better this gospel music can suck it bitches!

  • queen!

  • Sing it Miss Franklin!

  • who said Elvis sang this better than her....obviously you are tone deaf.

  • u people are krazy areatha bad but so is patti can i get a amen

  • @EmoGirlsCare But Patti can't touch Aretha with a 10 foot poll!

  • @TheQueenAretha2 omg..my moms been on my account again..WTF i dont listen to this crock of shit....

  • @EmoGirlsCare There is nothing shitty about this video.

  • @EmoGirlsCare Bitch sit the fuck down! Metal! Bitch please this is real music, i am not going to say anything about harsh about metal because that is the music that you listen to but down come on here and try to tell me that the music that i listen to is shitty and that your music is superior to mine. Get the fuck out of here with that shit!

  • @EmoGirlsCare I had a few typos in that comment, sorry.

  • ROTFL!!!! This FOOL said Elvis sang better than QUEEN ARETHA! Funniest Joke i have EVER Heard! HaaaHaaa!!!

  • @MrsD7777 Elvis was an IMITATOR of people like Aretha Franklin and he talked about the black church that influenced him.

  • I love that she just sang the song with that beautiful voice of hers without putting too much on it!! Loved it!

  • ELVIS DOES IT BETTER,ALL ARETHA DOES IS SCREAM A TUNE

  • @carmellabe elvis is a Joke as a singer. Anyone in the black church, he mocked would laugh at him.

  • YES LORD......YES LORD......YES LORD

  • @a1d2h It's true that some people have more talent than others, but that's not the case with these (3) Queens. They're just different. Sarah Vaughan is superb in tone, range and styling as is Aretha Franklin. Ella Fitzgerald was THE stylist and scatterer. But the styles are different and equally wonderful: Ms, Vaughan for her classical Jazz virtuosity, Ms. Franklin 4 Gospel/Bluesy style and Ms. Fitzgerald for her creativity. As beauty is in eye of beholder, so 2 singing in the ear of beholder.

  • @a1d2h But it was mine. Sarah Vaughan is as important to 20th century singing as the wonderful talents you mentioned, There are many black queens in music, too many to enumerate, some famous, some not. Nonetheless, we have been blessed with their presence here on beautiful planet Earth and they all are different and all Queens. I'm agreeing with what you said, I just added Queen Sarah Vaughan because she and Queen Ella Fitzgerald were in the same era, although Ms. Fitzgerald. Shalom.

  • @a1d2h Let's not forget Ms. Sarah Vaughan, yet another Queen. There can be more than

one queen as Creator's talent is infinite and definitely bestowed on these beautiful singers/musicians. Shalom.

  • I'm sorry but no black woman has sold more albums that Aretha.

  • @Owiewillich Whitney Houston

  • When speaking about Aretha Frankin you must know her history. She was a child genius. She played the piano so well she was considered a classical pianist and could have supported herself playing the piano. Her voice was so phenominal it couldnt be ignored. There are a lot of great singer trailblazers, but there is no one that compare to the queen. She had a first hit at 15 or 16 years old. She can sing anything including opera. Aretha has a style of her own and she is definitely a gift.

  • @wolfie2259

sweet, I heard at 16 she went to a "voice specialist" and after singing they said she DIDN'T NEED THEIR HELP, I don't know if it's true, but if you find out let me know....my wife says all she has to do is speak and its like a sweet song, such a wonderful voice

  • @wolfie2259 In this day and age if your not a rocket scientist or have some degree you are forgotten. Just

for a moment think of this. A person like Aretha would not fit in. Things now are government controlled.

A person with talent and common sense are forbidden. This is a liberal society gone bad. Liberal now means

    government control.

  • YES, I AM IN AGREEMENT WITH MOSS7373, YOU SHOULD LOOK UP MRS. DENITRA CHAMP, EVEN IF YOU WERE TOO CLOSE YOUR EYES, DENITRA CHAMP, SOUNDS EXACTLY, LIKE , MRS. FRANKLIN. DENITRA CHAMP, SHOULD PLAY, MRS. FRANKLIN'S DOUBLE!

  • comparing tina turner with aretha is like comparing a rolls royce with a buick. No comparison in vocal range or ability.

  • @MrKeithMJones ...yes, it's silly for a number of reasons, largely because Turner has never been what you would call a traditional soul singer. I mean she is talented and more of a showgirl who can sing well enough whereas Franklin is more of a serious musician.

  • @911insidejo8 to say that Tina Turner sings "well enough" is an understatement. She has one of the greatest voices of all time, and can blow just like the other greats, Aretha included. Of course Tina's approach to music was different from a traditional soul singer like Aretha, but no less vocally impressive. On a side note, personally, I think Aretha is the best of them all.

  • @rogfedserwil ...okay, Tina Turner is a very good singer, I would agree 'well enough' might be a bit of an understatement.

  • OVERKILL!

  • Please i met no harm, but there is name Denitra Champ, baby if you heard a ghost voice, well she sound identical to Aretha voice, she look like the young Aretha, now she not Aretha: but people ! listen at this lady she would sing your heart out your body ... My wish is that " please Aretha, look at this lady an you to will say she's the one to do my '' bio'' not Jennifer Hudson, not Fantasia, not Halle Berry ,not even Patti LaBelle.. now i love these girls,ok ..but this Denitra Champ her voice !

  • Growing up on her music, one of my favorite singers

  • Thats my girl in the most respectful way she sing like my (heaven bound) grandmother. She's awesome

  • Marion Anderson who was the leader and the queen of classical and that dear lady broke the colour barrier. Took a long time to go from where Marion sang at the Lincoln memorial to this fine lady to sing at the Inaguration of President Obama!

  • This is one song that get to me , it was sang at my Mother wake bt a good friend...

  • Sista RA, We keep you in our prayers always. We know only God can heal your body and comfort the soul. Blessings to you and family. Here's to a speedy recovery.

  • sorry to say this but, all black fat women (patti, aretha etc...)who sing first got their inspiration from ms mahalia jackson...THE original Black and beautiful FAT soul singer..She has my full respect children....she's like the frank sinatra of fat black women who sing...seek all madam mahalia's videos out here in youtube es[ her rendition of amazing grace and precious lord take my hand..which...aretha did sing at madam mahalia's funeral...

  • @johnianflores Not true and a very racist and stereotypical comment. sigh...

  • @moveova2006 that person's just messsssssss!!!!! just ignorantl. UGH!!!!

  • @johnianflores how the hell are you gonna say "sorry to say this" but then turn around and still make ignorant comments/remarks!!!!! the nerve of you!!!! a lot of people such as yourself get too comfortable saying hateful, ignorant, childish, and rude things behind a computer screen because you know you won't get bopped in the face!!!!!

  • Lol I hear Cissy Houston vioce singing background!

  • Written by the great Thomas Dorsey if I am not mistaken.

His wife had passed and he did not know how he could take another breath of life.

  • AAAAMMMMEEEEEENNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this song..I tried to sing ShekiaRenea but no where near her. lol Sing it Ms. Franklin

  • Lord, shut these fools up from all this arguing.

  • This is rediculous. Grown ppl arguing over celebs. Something is seriously wrong here. Personally Aretha is n a 3 way tie 4 my fav female singer 4 no other reason than I am crazy abt her voice (along w/ 2 other ladies). She is the undisputed queen of soul & 2 argue that 2 me is crazy. As far as talent & who can blow who out the water & all that nonsense, that's also inarguable bcuz those things r opinions & should b treated as such. Enjoy Queen Ree & her music & leave the arguments to children.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

  • @miketlow- yeah, yeah , yeah. You, like alot of other people who comment on youtube. Comment only for the "DRAMA" of it! Uh-UH, no she aint, she did this first, she sold dis many, she called dis, and dey called dat. Always steadfast and ready with a negative "biteback"! Never willing to give any one else props! WHATEVER DUDE! Read my comment again and DO YOUR HOMEWORK on the female singers Ive mentioned. Tina Turner is the Queen of Rock and Roll! Give props when and where there due!!!!!!

  • I do not come her for drama so get your facts straight!! This video is about Aretha not Tina!! Tina is great entertainer if you had read any of my comments about Tina you would have seen that!! I have a lot of Tina's albums and can say that without a doubt that she is not a better singer than Aretha! So your the one who needs to do your home work!

  • the differince between aretha and women of her time as compared to the newer models who are great in their own way ..i think that the newer generation has skill and are aided by great teachers and technology but few seem to have the passion for what they do you know love it like air they are all however still great thank you all for your post and comments i have been fed well thanks

  • @heads868 I agree. The heart & soul has given way to business skills and over-focus on looks. it's really youth oriented and commercial now:(

  • Ok I was reading these comments in disbelief about the praise people are giving aretha. I personally don't believe her to be the queen of soul seeing how Mahalia has her beat with just the eye of God. Not to mention Tramaine, Lynnette Hawkins and the host of other Gospel singers that would eat her. Anyway I had to look up when the background came in. Was anyone else like "what the hell?!" All out of key and off beat.

  • @SuperJadeDragon What are you saying! No one deserves the title of being The Queen of Soul more than Aretha. No other woman did more for the development and innovation of the genre of soul more than Aretha. There is no doubt about Aretha being Lady Soul. Mahalia is the Queen of gospel, soul and gospel are two different genres of music. Soul was invented by Ray Charle back in 50 and it is a mix between gospel and rnb. It has it roots in gospel but no one did more for the genre than Aretha.

  • @SuperJadeDragon In terms of gospel is concern no one touches Mahalia. But no one can deny Aretha's spirit. Her roots are even more rooted than many gospel singer. And her spirit! When the woman sings gospel you feel a closer connection to god. And Tramaine, Lynnette and the host of other gospel singer can't handle Aretha. Aretha connection is too strong and her spirit too powerful. Lastly Aretha is not off beat or off key. Save you petty talk for someone that actually suits it.

  • @TheQueenAretha 1st off it wasn't petty unlike you. It was the truth. 2ndly it must suit you to respond such mess. Die hard blind fans shouldn't try to reason. Tramaine would out blow aretha then and now! Tramaine sings more than Aretha and has a better quality voice. Tramaine still has her voice what about Aretha. Lynnette would growl Aretha under the table. Anyway Aretha is only Queen to those who don't LISTEN to other singers. There are too many that would eat her then & Now

  • @SuperJadeDragon Tramaine can't hold up to Aretha. No one can. Especially not in her prime. Tramaine is not in the same walking distance as Aretha Franklin. Bitch get the fuck real. Aretha's voice has changed over the years but one thing i don't have to worry about is any of the ladies you named outdoing shit when it comes to Aretha. You better get your shit together. Lynnette can sit her ass don't. No one touches Aretha. She has the best upper belts out of any of these women.

  • @TheQueenAretha Why are you using such language when describing gospel music.

Aretha Franklin is widely known as the most talented singer in American music history. When it comes to gospel she is also -if not the greatest one of the top 2-3.

That being said- Tramaine Hawkins is one of the greatest gospel singers of all time also. Lynette is also in the conversation in terms of gospel but I wouldn't put her in the top 3 gospel singers

  • @SuperJadeDragon Aretha is the QUEEN no matter who you like better. She is a better singer than Lynnette and Tramaine put together. You better learn about who you are talking about. Like i said she is THE QUEEN for a reason. There is only one person in gospel that is above Aretha and that is Mahalia. To this day none of those ladies not even if they screamed all day long can't touch Aretha in the field of gospel. Her connection is deeper and stronger.

  • @TheQueenAretha I 2nd that!!

  • @miketlow miketlow you always have my back.

  • @TheQueenAretha You know it Always!!!

  • @SuperJadeDragon Just so you know Aretha and Tramaine sang together back in 1996,Tramaine did not blow Re out the water! So get your facts straight!! Aretha is church which is why Aretha's influence reaches far and wide! Oh and I listen to a wide range of singers not just Aretha!

  • @SuperJadeDragon While I agree that both Lynette and Tramaine are two of the greatest gospel singers of all time. Nobody can blow Aretha Franklin out of the water. The Aretha Franklin gospel ablum of 1972 is quite an awsome piece of work.

Back on the Hawkins family tip....It is unbelievable that so much talent ended up in the same family through blood and marriage.

  • @SuperJadeDragon I agree we could have done without the backgrounds singers.

  • ♦can nobody take me back to CHURCH like aretha!

  • she put her foot in the ass of that song, for real...

  • chills

  • ms.FRANKLIN is and will always be the queen of soul because she brings the house down every time and never fails, god bless her

  • Just powerful!

  • always a winner

  • The year on this clip is wrong, this aired in 1988 not '84, please make this change to your title...Thanks!!!

  • @yaskam YES!! No one is denying her stature or place. Did you not read my comment. She is the undisputed Queen of Soul!! But dont throw shade on the other Queens.. because they have all earned those titles as well. All during the Queens reign might I remind U. Tina has sold millions of more albums than Aretha, does that make her a superior vocalists to Aretha..NO. Just give props where they are deserved. No shade on the Queen!! BUT THE AFOREMENTIONED ARE ABSOLUTELY ROYALTY AS WELL!!

  • @Paderick808 OK. surely but according to me this woman is UNIQUE like Billie HOLIDAY was. ARETHA is beyond!

  • @Paderick808 Tina has not sold more records than Aretha. Remember Aretha started selling millions in 1967 Tina did not get to enjoy selling millions until 1984..

  • @Paderick808 Don't get it me wrong but she is the only singer that was ask by Rev Martin Luther King Jr. to sing at his funeral. He was not only a man of God but he was a Man of the Biggest organization that protected you and I from being denied my civil rights. Please read you history!!!!

  • @TheSylviar Mahalia Jackson was aksed specifically for Precious Lord. I'm not aware of Aretha being asked.

  • She is indeed the Queen of Soul! But not the queen of music! If ur going to give props, then be truthful and fair about it! Tina Turner, Queen of Rock&Roll! Gladys Knight The Empress! Etta James,Blues Motha #1! Mahalia Jackson,Motha Of Gospel! Nina Simone,The High Priestess, Dionne Warwick,Pure Black Pearl, Diana Ross,The Boss..2 name a few. They have all carved and created there own greatness even in the presence of Aretha. BONAFIDE SANGERS IN DEY OWN RIGHT!!!

  • @Paderick808 NO! You should read this CLEVER comment about "meatlman99"... "

  • From "meatlman99": "People need to know that this woman is a Legend because she is a musical genius with exceptional vocal improvisation abilities. But, her exceptional ear is which separates her. She was a child gospel star, the was mentioned in the same categories as Mahalia, Dinah and on and on. Aretha was topshelf before Patty, Diana, Tina etc. In fact, Aretha is still topshelf entertainment and she is musically a lot older than her age. Long live the True Queen!!!!! "

  • @yaskam NO ONE TOUCHES ARETHA. SHE IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST. I LOVE GLADYS, TINA, DIANA,

ETTA, CHAKA KHAN, PATTI, STEPHANIE MILLS TO NAME A FEW.

  • @yaskam NO ONE TOUCHES ARETHA. SHE IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST. I LOVE GLADYS, TINA, DIANA,

ETTA, CHAKA KHAN, PATTI, STEPHANIE MILLS TO NAME A FEW. I LOVE YOU FOR GIVING US YOUNGER ONES WHO LOVED ARETHA BACK IN THE EARLY DAYS UP TO NOW TO SEE THESE INCREDIBLE AND WONDERFUL VIDEOS. I LOVE EVERTHING ARETHA.

  • @Paderick808 Even with all the titles you named nobody ever really calls them that. Aretha is known world wide by the title she was given back in 1962 and officially crowned with in 1968.

  • @Paderick808 ...yes but I think you've strangely omitted Dusty Springfield, Madonna, Lisa Stansfield, Sinead O'Connor as well.

If we want to be fair and truthful, there have been a number of superb white singers as well from Roy Orbison and Elvis to Van Morrison and Bob Seger and the spectacular women above.

  • @911insidejo8 Really though, to be honest, there's no comparing white singers to black singers. Blacks have a unique power, energy and sense of rhythm that puts their music in a category by itself. I can only call it divine. I think if Elvis and Roy were here they'd admit, particularly Elvis, they copied black musicians and singers but were never able to manifest the same performance. As for the women, they're fine singers but would not compare to an Aretha or Sarah Vaughan or Chaka Khan, etc.

  • @2dasimmons ...I agree that black singers definitely tend to be better singers overall but that's not a rule of law. I mean Elvis next to Barry White, I mean duh, gimme a break already. Or Dusty Springfield next to Whitney Houston-I mean Houston certainly has an impressive technical voice, but she's a terrible interpretive singer and always misses the essence of a song entirely.

And no-one, white or black, compares with Franklin.

  • @911insidejo8 You've made a good point.

  • @2dasimmons I Agree with you, with one very Powerful exception to the rule...the Late Great Ms Tina Marie! There was No Way Anyone could tell she was a white songstress unless they would see her in person! WOW! Her "Fire & Desire" duet with Rick James was Unbelievable! We called her our "Off-White Sistah"!

  • @MrsD7777 I too enjoyed that duet w/Rick James! May she RIP.

  • @Paderick808 Preach!!!! You are telling the truth!

  • @Paderick808 ive seen patti cover and destroy all of the artists you've mentioned...ON THIER OWN SONGS!!!!

  • "...the sheer power of her voice...." Thank you for posting Aretha Franklin singing this song. God bless you.

  • You go Aretha!!! May the glory of God abide in you daily!! You always was one of my favorite singers. God bless you!

  • Praise God For ARETHA as her videos are still embracing souls!!

  • yes!!!!! The city of Detroit declared Aretha's voice as a natural resource years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @karameldreem The state of Michigan declared her voice that...

  • AMEN ARETHA!!!!!!

  • SING, ARETHA, SING!!!

  • We will finally get the film version of Aretha's masterpiece Lp Amazing Grace! I just read an article about the film being edited into a concert film. This is long, long over due!! I can not wait to see Mick Jagger,Clara Ward and Aretha's father in the pews moving with the spirit!!

  • are you serious mick jagger was there. i know he wasnt the same after that experience

  • From what I read yes he was there!!..I can not wait to see the footage!..

  • I got to analyse all this gospel stuff for a Uni class. I've never done music before and I'm totally lost. What can I say? There is a nice lady singing a song that makes people think of God? Help.

I think it is something to do with: african music before the slave trade, the african roots of gospel vs the white roots, black church vs white church, christian music vs secular music, melody, rhythm, 'syncopation' (?), call and response...

    I need a teacher, please.

    Nice music, nice folks.

  • @utopianconstruction Lol its more than just black vs white. Its partly Southern Gospel Elvis has a beautiful version of Dis song as well. many ppl dont kno bout Elvis & his Gospel Career it was his1st luv. Aretha has great vocal scale Alto-Soprano. she has "Soul" sings it wit her<3 & really reaches within the audience her voice is clear and powerful=witout the mike she'd probably B jus as loud. Hope dis helps. U shud listen 2 Kelly Price's rendition as well she could succeed Aretha. God Bless

  • Yeah it seems black and white gospel are closely interlinked culturally and historically. Thanks for response. I will listen to Kelly Price.

  • Listened to Kelly Price. She's good.

  • That was more like a singing clinic. This clip should be used in vocal mastery classes..lol...she put her foot in that, there.

  • both feet!...LOL

  • Aretha..what can you say? Back ground vocals were not needed.

  • she is the soul queen, but mahelia jackson is and remains queen of gospel

  • Very Well Put Wambui37......The Gospel Crown & Thrown Will 4ever Remain Mahalia's.......I Believe God Sang Through Mahalia Her Voice Was His And With Every Note She Sang Out Came His Power And Glory! And For Miss Franklin She Did A Very Great Rendition Of Precious Lord She Surely Made Mahalia Happy!

  • go ahead Aretha, sing your heart out.

  • Amen

  • Long live the Queen

  • absolute and supreme classic!

  • I know a lot of people want to crown there favorite singer with a title..I have heard some be called by there fans "The Empress of Soul","The Queen of whatever" but they always seems to forget that Aretha was truly crowned and there was a reason for this, she changed the face of music, the way all female singers as well as singers in general were measured!!..There is no other singer that can say that period!!!!!!..Plus she has a connection with her soul that no one else has!!!!!

  • i agree

  • You should enjoy without trying to detract from or diminish other's well-deserved props.

  • Comment removed

  • For starters do not tell me what or how I should do things! That's how I feel and that's my take on the matter!!

  • @stltrainlover,I feel you on your comment. I did a little research and "Empress" means the same thing as "Queen". So all this The Empress of Soul is a bunch of bull its just another way people are trying to take Aretha's earned title. They do not do that with male singers,I have yet to hear anyone else called the "The Godfather of Soul" or "The Chairman of the Board"!!

  • @stltrainlover: I was an adult when Aretha "happened." I can testify...there was no one like her out here @ that time in so-called "Popular" music in America. Her singing voice & singing style on TV not only changed what the music industry considered acceptable in Popular music by Black artists, it changed the way many kids, Black AND White, wanted to sing, to sound. She set 'em on fire & freed 'em to do so if they had it. Aretha broke it loose for all of us. She changed the whole THANG, honey!

  • @stltrainlover I agree ...NO ONE and I mean , NO ONE has ever been called the Queen Of Soul but Aretha ....other singers are good but there is only ONE Queen ...to try and name other singers in the same way as they do Aretha ...is not only wrong ...it's factually incorrect because not even the other singers listed here in these posts above can compare to Aretha's Greatness ....She has NO PEER !!!

  • @PeaceFan1 ...I agree, Franklin is the absolute best. Fewer things bring me greater earthly joy than to listen to her glorious Atlantic recordings, they are a marvel of popular American music and must be owned by anyone with any sort of reverence whatsoever for music. Her career was a bit disappointing on Arista overall but her output was so mighty and impressive from 1967-74 it hardly matters.

  • gotta love Aretha...she is not called the "Queen" for nothing...AMEN.....

  • is that Thomas Whitfield on piano?

  • yes it is

  • Yes Sir!!! The Maestro and the Queen

  • Aretha's current piano player Richard (forgot his last name) is by far one of the best piano players I have heard. Aretha is so music that she gets the best of the best to play for her and help her move with the spirit!

  • true queen of soul
