  • Man,as good as Eddie was at guitar,Roth was JUST as important to the band...hated it took 20 yrs B4 Eddie realized that.

  • DLR didn't suck.

  • THE GREATEST ROCK-N-ROLL BAND IN HISTORY!

  • Saw in Indy, much better than the 07/08 tour.David has the head mike and sounds closer to the 80s with the high notes.Sure it is computerized.Wolfie is 21 and more relaxed, hes a man,not a 16 year old and a very talented musician. He isnt Michael Anthony and that will always show on the stage and older hits.Eddie is Eddie, sober, looking like he is having the most fun since the 80s and didnt smoke on stage. The ideal would be original line up with David/Sammy. If Eddie would come around.Would be huge!

  • I distinctly remember having this video cranked one afternoon after school and a local video show was playing this and in walks the old man, just home from work and him yelliing at me to "turn that racket down!"

  • played this in Unkasville Lastnight!!!

  • This is when they were great and at the top of their game1 Now it's a clown show and they are awful! I refuse to pay to see them now!

  • @Vanrocco66 You are so right when roth first came back i had to go see them thought this is gonna be great. They sucked roth was so bad, eddie sucked he stood still like a 90 year old man and wolfgang just blew alex was good but he cant carry the band thats davids job waste of money.

  • This really IS awesome quality. Thanks for sharing.

  • Ahhhh.....the memories of seeing VH live back in the day!!!

  • This is why i got into VH. F.W. is my first album...err tape.

  • Fantastic sound quality. Thank you for sharing.

  • I found waldo....he's on stage playing guitar ;-)

  • If you look up awesome in the dictionary this video will be the definition

  • First VH show I saw was this tour. I love that stage setup!

  • @skullkap1 Who did Van Halen open for on this tour-or did someone open for them?

  • @AngelofAnguish A band called Magnum opened for them in Nashville.

  • @AngelofAnguish They were headliners by the Women and Children First tour of 1980. A great Boston band called the Fools opened for them on a bunch of dates on this tour (Fair Warning), before unceremoniously getting the boot. The Fool's singer Mike Girard talks about it in his book, says Dave was a real insecure asshole (surprise !!). Still love Diamond, though......

  • Surprisingly faithful rendition of this great Van Halen tune! Love the band, but they were notoriously sloppy live. Saw them in '84 and they were all over the place. GREAT to have them back with an excellent new album though!

  • @Pacisdiligo I agree they were sloppy, saw them at cobo hall in april 84.. some songs were performed good others not so much... id imagine a lot would have to do with how wasted they were on any particular night. I dont have any problem with partying but do it after the show not before. I saw them with Hagar in 95 what a change... they were really tight then. ive listened to the new album over and over and it has yet to grow on me... I miss Michael anthony.

  • Just played this in Indy tonight!!

  • @evh4450 LOLOL AND IT WASNT LIKE THIS ,, LOLOL FUK THEM

  • @evh4450 i am glad u had a chance to see them. i don't know your age, but i saw the fair warning tour in 1981 when i was 16. the 80s were a beautiful time. i saw VH in 1981 1982 1983 and 1984 along with motley, ozzy with the late randy rhoades. all the british heavy metal as well. about 200 concerts, more or less.my friend and i would sleep out and wait in line with hundreds of other people to get the best seats. i got my share of the first 10 rows on the floor, great bands, great buzz. 80s #1

  • good show..

  • I bet DLR got aaaaaaaaaaalllllll kinds of poon back in the day... he'd have to beat them back with a stick!!!

  • @93soloist Yup and so much so that he had to get a legal contract stating if he got any girl pregnant that he wouldn't be obligated to be responsible for the kid. That's the truth!

  • Van halen is one of the sloppiest live acts in history. Saw em many times in their prime and it was always the same. Fuckem. Hacks.

  • @TheDrumgod66 Well this song and video didn't seem to make them look like Hacks to me.

  • Damn girls were fucking beautiful back then. Its alright..Im legal DOB 09/12/68.

  • Mad props to Eddie for wearing the fencing knickers...

  • I'm pretty sure this is for the Diver Down tour. There's another clip of this same concert with them doing Unchained. I wish they'd clean it up a bit and issue this on DVD.

  • @maxcohen13 This was the Fair Warning tour actually.

  • @Ttrixter49

Thank god we cleared that up.

  • @maxcohen13 this is the fair warning tour 1981, 3 clips- unchained, so this is love and hear about it later, this one. all the same show. everyone wishes this was released on dvd. would be awesome!

  • This is the best era IMO. Roth has lost his mid range, gone are the classic harmonies from MA. There's some cool stuff on the new CD, but there's no catch hooks on any of it. I was pleasantly surprised at Eddie's playing, but who knows when it was really recorded?

  • This song will get you a poke in the whiskers. Just have 1,200 watts of Rockford Fosgate power and a girlfriend that loves road trips and motels.

  • this doesnt sound like live audio..........either that or mister Roth and the guys have lost a lot of quality over the years besides 1:45 He is jumping while screaming with the mic on one hand?

  • @contact1araya This is most definitely live audio. Audio/Video were taken over two shows in Oakland back in '81 for music video purposes only. The jumps in this video were also used in "So This Is Love". In the "Unchained" video, taken from the same two shows, Eddie magically switches guitars mid song while soloing, then back to original. It's all just video splicing to make a live video for MTV.

  • @contact1araya Dave is not human. This is all live audio!

  • Love the "Where's Wally" outfit on Eddie. But seriously, folks, Eddie was really kicking some A##. Can't wait for the new tour and album. (Is it out yet?)

  • My very favorite vh song of all time, I just wish I had been old enough to see them back then!

  • 2:42 More cowbell please! .-)

  • Is this Black Oak Arkansas?

  • They should put this whole show out on DVD if it isn't already available.

  • @tonusaitis If they DO release it, I won't have worry about the band that just released "A Different Kind of Truth!" Why? In my opinion, "A Different..." PALES in comparison to the stellar 1981 Fair Warning tour!

  • @tonusaitis Who still buys DVD's these days? Old farts and retards. The rest of us have the internet. En zo is het maar net!

  • Roth Rules!! 'nuff said!!

  • I can see Dave's junk...is it real or Spinal Tap/?

  • ed's dressed like wheres waldo!

  • DAVID LEE ROTH ALWAYS AND FOREVER FRONT MAN FOR VAN HALEN....TO HELL WITH spammy hagar...red ashole....DIAMOND DAVE!

  • I've seen this group live so many times..., always great. David Lee Roth was like a pretzel back then!

  • lets rock!

  • I heard kool and the gang is opening up on the new tour 2012 ,is the promoters stupid, dumb or I mean come on man!

  • @cornytoad yea they are opening up here in indanapolis on febuary 22 we got tickets!

  • @mackredenbarger Who's opening for them on that day?

  • @AngelofAnguish cool and the gang

  • @cornytoad Wow! I was thinking the EXACT SAME THING! I saw the ad in the "entertainment" section of the Seattle Times and thought, "Is THIS a MISPRINT or MISCOMMUNICATION?!" In my opinion, this is JUST AS BAD, if NOT WORSE than, JETHRO TULL winning the 1989 Heavy Metal performance! In my opinion, this is like STRYPER opening for DEICIDE, or VENOM, or CANNIBAL CORPSE! I guess VH want "diversity" like Anthrax did when they let Public Enemy open for them!

  • @AngelofAnguish yep, who gives a fuck about Kool and the Gang? Why not at the fucking least a rock act? Maybe from the 80s'?

  • @hummarstra In my opinion, in the MODERN era, do "old school" rock/metal bands REALLY find it THAT difficult to find a "suitable" artist/band to tour with or open for them?! I guess or Maybe Van Halen want "diversity" this time around just like Anthrax did when they let Public Enemy open for them. Yes, it IS (the year) 2012, but let's NOT get "too liberal," here!

  • @AngelofAnguish it probably had something to do with both acts sharing the same agent, management or some similar business connection.

  • this is the real deal

  • I really hope the guys can keep it together while they are still healthy and willing enough to play music. I preordered the new album via amazon, really hoping it's got some good tunes on it.

  • @AetroyayorteA Let's HOPE today's Van Halen really (HAVE) matured and DO HAVE THEIR HEADS ON RIGHT or STRAIGHT! In other words, let's HOPE what happened to Black Sabbath in 1992 DOESN'T happen to VH!

  • @AngelofAnguish At least "Dehumanizer" kicked ass.

  • I briefly worked at Guitar Center in West Los Angeles, and Alex's black and white striped drum kit (c.1981) as seen in this video was on display in that store. I had the pleasure of moving it across the room and getting a close-up look. It had completely new cymbals set up around it. The story was that someone had purchased it from Alex and instead of keeping it in storage, he loaned it to Guitar Center to put on display.

  • It's so bad where my son goes to school.(security wize)they even removed doors on bath room stalls. Now if he has to use toilet he has to use it with no privacy in front of everyone/Kinda reminds me of prison life you see on tv.

  • @smithdsmit - my school in 1978-79 had open stalls too. A lot of us went to the nurse's office to use her private restroom, just by saying "I have a stomach ache." What this has to do with Van Halen I'll never know...

  • @smithdsmit trust me , nobody wants to watch your kid taking a dump. If they only have the doors removed its still pretty private, he will be just fine.

  • Awesome!

  • I typed in "Porn" on Google and it brought me hear.

  • Great Live tune I love listening too and the solo is majestic..Dweezil Zappa captures the same vibe on his True Confessions CD hands on you hands on me song. great solo!

  • man those socks and shirt eddie has on is so ugly.

  • @cruefan77 I agree...his best outfit was definetly the frankenstrat jumpsuit in the US fest vid

  • women & children first very fine very fine

  • Sometimes I dress like an Oompa-Loompa too:)

  • @wyzapple If you can play a guitar that good it's ok.

  • Hard to believe this was 30+ years ago already.

  • @bassmanjoe One of my favorite snare sounds is Alex VH and Phil Rudd snare on highway to hell

  • THIS is the REAL f'ing =VH= !!

  • I"M GLAD I WAS BORN A ROCKER FRONTIERE!!!THIS F"N RULES!!!KING ED!!!AND HALEN!!!

  • yeah, Van Halen 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That drum sound is to die for, he always had one of the best snare sounds.

  • THE REAL VAN HALEN!!

  • This is the easiest Where's Waldo? ever.

  • it kills me when the camera is not entirely on Eddie during that sick solo

  • Fair Warning Tour

  • Wheres Wally? 2:53

  • Dave can't sing worth a damn.

  • not the year of the song which tour was it ???

  • @toodazegone1965 1981 Fair Warning Tour, Oakland Coliseum

  • anyone know what year this was?????

  • Michael Anothony's vocals are the UNDERRATED backbone of the VH sound!

  • awesome bay pointe li

  • Think Eddie wrote this song on Piano first. This was a B side song for them - it's better than most great bands best................ Really

  • I saw them on this tour. I'll never forget it. It was amazing. You had to be there to feel the energy of that show.

  • @DrMabuse05 What venue did you see them at? Who opened for them-or did Van Halen open for someone?

  • 0:52 I love her..

  • @fs130 You realize that she is now in her 50's !!!

  • Fuckin' GREAT live performance, all-around.

    Epic.

  • My favourite band..DLR hitting impossible screams and the other three sounding like a herd of harmonious rhinos! WHAT A SOUND from 3 instruments.

  • @kchamz I wonder if "Diamond" Dave can hit those screams, today?

  • @AngelofAnguish No and that's the cost of "givin' 'er" night in and night out when you're in your 20s. There's things I can't do, that I did 30 years either. It's all relative I suppose...

  • @kchamz 30 years ago...

  • @AngelofAnguish - No., he cant. Nowhere close... He still Rocks though !

  • man i love these guys

  • eddie is the man!!!!

  • @Pat9201 ---- Diamond Roth owns your ass, bub

  • This is a vintage performance!

  • Loved it, thanks

  • Where's VanWaldo? There he is!

  • Is Eddie van Halen wearing leg warmers?

  • Comment removed

  • Diamond Roth shimmers like a true rock god here ----- UNREAL

  • @Hunkola I agree! WHY BOTHER with modern rock/metal singers when you've got "DIAMOND DAVID LEE ROTH?!

  • @Hunkola your in love with dave...lol

  • Comment removed

  • @hunkolasmom well...at least hunkola is dumber than you.

  • Comment removed

  • @Hunkola hey, sounds like van halen4 will be putting out a new album soon.i hope for youe sake there are plenty of new pics of dave roth for you to drool over.

  • @Pat9201 ---- Dont you have a bunch of crack and meth to sell, you fuckin' nigger ass?

  • @Hunkola oh come on hunkola, van halen4 is supposed to make their big announcement tonight and you should be in a better mood.the least you could do is make sense but then again why should you start now.

  • @hunkolasmom = tsk - projecting stupidly, blathering out more of the same, dim, rote, one note idiocies. in Eds name under a clever aliasS.

  • @hunkolasmom

    idiot

  • i remember how popular vh was when this album(fair warning) came out.kids were walking down the halls in high school with this on there boom boxes.kids dont get that kind of freedom now.its walk single file.keep quit and remember that you are on camera at all times.how far we have degessed. sad thing is. parents think there kids are better off this way.they are being prepared for a time when they will have no rights or privacy. it wont bother them they have been conditioned to it

  • @smithdsmit i hear you!

  • @smithdsmit people everywhere are seeing this my friend they won't win but people in usa have to actually vote and march on congress and our military volunteers have to say this is unconstitutional.

  • @smithdsmit hopefully kids today are learning basic grammar, which you seemed to have skipped in school.

  • @costew67 I was commenting on a video.Not typing a resume.So I really don't need the lecture on proper grammar ok.

  • @smithdsmit My school had to stop being free when we saw an influx of blacks and mexicans. Now there is a cop on campus everyday. White=free. Diversity=chains

  • @smithdsmit I hate to disappoint you but kids are better off this way, this coming from an educator and fan of Van Halen. Kids who canont or better said refuse small and simple things are tripped up by the bigger things that come up in life. Peace. Enjoy learning to play this song fantastic intro Eddie first created on the piano.

  • @sonicoclv55 i prefer children to learn in a enviornment that promotes learning.I dont see how massive security and cameras every where help anything. schools no longer seem like schools. they seem like little prisons

  • on the first day god created van halen then he created earth

  • Back before LeRoth got all wacked out; the music of my youth.

  • Classic VH so cool!!

  • Alex is the most under rated drummer in history of rock n'roll

  • @TheCabCheese lol dime a dozen he needs ta beat the skins some more !

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @TheCabCheese and with good reason, his bass sounds like children jumping in spring rain puddles - wimpy to the max

  • @TheCabCheese He is definitely my favorite drummer of all time!!

  • Back when VH was at thier peak....no better party band in the late 70's/early 80's....

  • THEE Greatest Band of all time;each member was the BEST at what they brought to the table, show me one weak Van Halen with Diamond Dave you can't discussion over!!!!

  • @MrDetroit62 no question van halen is the best band out there back in the 70s and 80s but loss of control was kind of a weak track. it was to strange to be vh just like almost the entire diver down album.

  • @CardShark989 HUH?

  • @CardShark989 Really? I think Diver Down is the most under rated album. Great tracks on it!

  • @CardShark989 What the hell are you on about pal?

  • a good van halen song, just so relaxed and laid back then it kicks in, classic van halen, a great song,

  • Aaaaah..... the good old days! Man that sounded good. Fair Warning and VH 1 are my two favorite VH albums. That was back when Eddie had all of his "fire" in his playing. Well like they say, all good things come to an end.

  • rock!!

  • Dave's really lettin' it "all hang out" in this video, isn't he? Those pants don't leave much left to the imagination.....

  • im 22 years old.. I wish I could have gone to shows like this.. where has all the great music gone?.. Thank God for youtube

  • @codebreaker212p ---- I was a teenager during the era of the Mighty Roth Van Halen.....it was a glorious time, indeed......these are the dark days ;-(

  • @codebreaker212p Believe it or not, I'm 40 and, despite all the rock/metal shows that I went to "back in the day, ;)" I, TOO, ask, "Where DID all the great music go?!" Likewise, YouTube IS a Godsend!

  • Song-I DO want to hear later. David Lee Roth spandex I DON'T want to see later. LOL

  • sound is still untouched! pure sex on 6 strings.

  • Fuck alec baldwin.

  • I found Waldo! haha

  • One word for these times... MAGICAL.

  • Wicked!!!

  • Oh Man, How I miss those days!
