Does it matter the CPU you have if you are going to use DDR2 or DDR3 RAM? I thought it was just the MoBo... I want to put DDR3 RAM with an Athlon X2 64 6000+ on the MSI NF750-G55 AM3 NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard. This going to be a problem? Or does the problem arise when I upgrade to a Phenom chip?
That depends. Are you build an 8 socket database server with 128G of ram, or a home gaming rig with a $500 video card? For home gaming, the Intel is the fastest. But it's also very expensive for the high end units. Once you get to the cpus that don't cost $500 or more, in the home unit realm, the Intel and AMD are both good. If you're build an 8 socket server, the 6 core AMDs are much better than the current Intels.
This is all very informative, but the question is:
What current applications/games are designed to utilize this high end technology? I can blow all of my money on the baddest internal components, but its useless unless you have the OS and software to fully use its wide array features. That's like buying an iPhone and only using the call feature lol.
fuck amd! Ive been using amd cpu's for 2 years and they pissed me off to many times. i switched to intel half a year ago and havent opened my comp case since.
also i have a AMD processor for 1 year and is working 1 year non stop in high temperature enviroment... i think you choose bad components for your system.
I think these companies have given up quality and dependability in the race for higher cpu speeds(to what avail?),i read that alot of motherboard manufacturers have less than $10.00 in parts on a mobo, that says alot for quality.
I'm building my own PC and looking for a decent dual core CPU. I've noticed that AMD's a lot cheaper than intel. so what's my benefit for buying a intel core 2 duo verses a similarly spec AMD cpu? hope you can help thanks!
Intel runs cooler and overclocks easier, but you can do the same thing with AMD if you buy a fan. Intel has slightly higher benchmarks, but for the price you save alot more on amd and if you want to equal the intel just upgrade for $50 leaving intel behind. :p
hyper transport and hyper threading are almost but not exactly the same with hyper threading each core does two processing threads simulating a virtual core hyper transport on the other hand is a technology that amd has been using since 2001 and came in 4 speeds 1.x ,2.0, 3.0, and 3.1 and runs from 200Mhz to 3.2Ghz it was used because amd eliminated the fsb the new core i7 is similar to and amd with the advantage of hyper threading which gives it the overall edge.
But then again you would have to explain why the benchmark scores are all highly relied on the i7, from futuremark, to geekbench and so forth all the highest cpu models are i7 and not AMD's newest processor.
Pretty painfull that I paid €500,- last year to get one of the first Q9450 on sale down here -_- And now (just like when I bought an AMD Athlon XP) it is allready being replaced by a far more superior technology. It's really impossible to keep up xD What I'd really like to see is a CPU that can split the load of a single tread application over all cores. Wouldn't that significantly reduce reduce the heat?
Quite informative, but i would just like to point out something that bugged me all the way through the video. The word "Phenom" is pronounced (and i say this phonetically) fen-hom and not fee-nom. Just fyi. :)
This vid was awesome! I've already read lots about the new features the Core i7 was introduced though, but the tech bits you had about AMD was niiice XD!
:( My socket's only AM2 and don't want to risk upgrading my BIOS for functionality with AM2+ Phenom chips (or early Phenom II chips that'll be socket AM2+).

AMD HT does NOT equal Intel Hyperthreading. It's equal to the onboard memory controller that the Intel has.

True. It stands for hypertransport.

i7-965 3.20GHz Extreme Edition Processor or AMD Phenom II X4 quad core 955 Deneb also 3.2GHz which would you get.
cost wise and profromance and what is the difference in the both cpu's?

for more bang for your buck, go for amd

@27johnrick what do mean?
most amds today are repoprted to be faster that bigger intels...
im running an intel on a prebuilt sys, but for a while i was runningand amd k6-2 at 450mhz... and that thing was fast for an old chip!!!
for normal usage it surpassed the intel pentium by alot based of tests and usage (on linux so i must be correct)
but for gameing the intel was beter because it was newer ofcourse its gona play beter!
so amd is better for *almost* everything!

is amd phenom 2 going to be released for am3 socket to support ddr3 ram and will that improve it's performance from core i7?

I've haven't seen the benchmarks comparing them yet, but even the AM2+ phenom II's are fairing well against i7.

for gaming which cpu is better core i7 or phenom II x4?
