  • polo neck jumper in a TV studio! Not the wisest of gentlemen's attire

  • This is absolutely fabulous, used to love Thursday Nights waiting for it to come on, couldn't wait to see who was #1. Crazy Canuck ex pat.

  • does anyone have the actual show?? BBC AND ITV need sued for wiping all the great shows..shame on them

  • Rolf Harris, Jackson's Michael and Jethro Tull, all in one sleek package.

  • With film & youtube, isn't it wonderfull?

The ability to step back, and "reflect" after all this time - what has stood the test of time?

With all the hype/bullshit/superstars on this chart, 41 years later, take a look at who was at #3 with "Reflections of my life".

Now hitting 3m+ posts on youtube - but totally ignored here in any posts, sweet!!

I got it then - did you? Truly? No you didn't - now, you just think you did - alwayslook beyond the crowd

  • Can you believe the timeless, outrageously good music that comprised this list? I was a young kid then. It just seemed normal. It just seemed that we would always have new, great music. What the heck happened?

  • What a great clip and range if artists. I not Chicago were in there. Possibly it was their hit 24 or 6 to 4? Although I didn't know this had made it into the charts in1970

  • rolf harris! trippy,i met him one boxing day on stockton railway station when i was 4 (1971) my sister spotted him told my dad he said your tripping man that aint rolf fucking harris, but it was !!! he picked me up said i was a canny kid!! got like a sort of blessing like the pope would do if he picked yer up when yer were a kid,or JESUS

  • Shocking blue's Venus what a great song that is

  • Anyone know the intro music 0:00 to 0:33

  • Rolf Harris was Number 2? For what song? Tie your Kangaroo down?

The names of the artists in the count down. wow.. I wish I was alive in the 60s -early 70s.

  • Rolf Harris was at #2 with "Two Little Boys", which had just spent five weeks at #1. Rolf's song knocked Sugar Sugar off the top spot after spending eight weeks at #1.

  • Does anyone know whether a TOTP episode from 24th September 1970 still exists, because this was the episode which featured the first appearance of Black Sabbath. I can't find it on YouTube. I presume that episode must have been deleted or wiped out by the BBC.

  • Did anyone notice No 30. 'Jackson's Five' Someone didn't know their pop music!

  • Oh my God! Uncle Tony will get me! I was only 2 years old at the time!!

  • Anyone notice that they called The Jackson Five Jackson's Five ?

  • Brilliant! Hard to believe that in 1970, Tony Blackburn and Jimmy Saville were the only DJs tp present TOTPs, Ed Stewart Joined them in 71 then Noel Edmonds in 72.

  • Please note this edition of Top Of The Pops is a remaining black and white print of a colour film.

  • what do you mean?

  • This edition of Top of The Pops, 5th Feb, 1970, was originally filmed and broadcast in colour. The BBC only possess a black and white copy in their archives, but with the wonders of modern technology, they can restore it back to colour, as you can see traces of red, green and blue chroma dots in the film clip. They did the same thing with one episode of Dad's Army from October 1969.

  • I think the chromodots are showing in this fil, so I expect that they will put it in colour soon.

  • I'm guessing Tony Blackburn's jacket is navy blue and his jumper is green. But I sincerely hope the BBC will transmit or release these rare, restored and colourized editions of the programme on DVD. But I can't see that ever happening. Two further and surviving editions from Jan and Feb 1970 exist in monochrome. I have seen Jethro Tull, Rare Bird, Badfinger, John Lennon (exists in NTSC colour) and Blodwyn Pig in colour. I long to see the other acts etc in colour too. Bring it on BBC.

  • @aka81 it means that BBC before deleting the colour videotape recording, made a B&W copy on film. the magnetic tapes at the time were extremelly expensive and therefore they were re-used... only from the 70's they realised that they lost precious archives from the past and started to keep evrything... also price of the tapes went down as well, which helped.

  • Great clip :)

  • nice mini skirts,good times,great music
