Hold the vibraslap kinda like a gun, but hold only the outer part of the "handle" and hold it loosely. Hit the ball on the palm of your hand and or leg, like you were doing. You will get the best sound out of it this way. And don't ever hit the triangle part of the vibraslap like you were doing because you can crack the wooden shell and you don't get a good sound.
