  • "JC Denton speaks to the Internet"

  • Good Lord. It's the prototype of Facebook.

  • This wil never get old and by the time we hit ghost in the shell technology this will be relevent

  • hugh everett ... very valuable scientist

  • DARPA + CRAY + NVIDIA

    ExaFLOP Echelon 2020

Be careful of phases like "It's the bomb" on phones

  • I think philosophical and political conversations were aspects that felt lacking in Human Revolution. Deus Ex's philosophical standpoint focused on the human condition and government. In contrast, Human Revolution was centered around transhumanism and augmentation. I don't mind it too much, but I Human Revolution's focus (should we accept technology or not?) seemed shallow compared to Deus Ex's (given what we know about humans, how do we best govern ourselves?)

  • @cloak211 Revolution was all about regulating technology, issues that apply to us right now like energy regulation for instance, but that's just a very small facet of government. Deus Ex went well beyond that and explored scenarios of state control outside the forms of government we've grown to know. The depth it went into while doing this really drives home what a thought-provoking and ground-breaking game it was.

  • @cloak211 Remember that it's a prequel that takes place 20-25 years before DX1 and that the issues that are faced in Human Revolution are entirely different (although playing out in the same manner in a massive nod towards Deus Ex' plot structure) and are in no way less relevant than what's discussed in DX. 3D Printing of bones and spray-on skin are not Sci-fi but actually used in medical procedures today. It won't be long now.

  • "God, and the gods"

    Love it.

  • After hearing this, I absolutely HAD to pick the Helios ending. If I am a planned organism and thus death is not the solution for me...welll...yeah.

  • The music is really what ties the scene and dialogue all together.

  • Playing sophisticated games like Deus Ex and Planescape: Torment makes me feel wiser adn more intellectual. It's amazing what games can do. Good games that is.

  • @HawaiiKnut Wow. You just mentioned my two favourite games ever. I love your taste in games! I wish there were more like those two. Though not if they are going to be crappy sequels. ¬_¬

  • these dialogues made mass effect looks like a kiddy game

  • @planescapeshock I'm not sure if you can compare Hamburger Helper to Deus Ex

  • Almost a scary resemblance to Facebook

  • @lazix

    or Google ;)

  • Some of the best lines I've ever seen...

  • This dialog is one of the most thought provoking things I have come across, in games or otherwise. It was so good that when I first discovered it I had to shut the game off for a few hours just to mull it around in my head. And the way it ends up foreshadowing one of the games ending is pure genius.

They don't write games like this anymore.

  • @DrDankPhD they never wrote games like this

  • Disturbing thing is, he is right about several things in my own life when I reflect back on it.

The writer of Deus Ex 1 really knew how to describe some of the characteristics of human beings.

  • this game must be made into a television miniseries

  • "God was a dream of good goverment".. that one's stuck with me for years..

  • This dialog is absolutely scary and prophetic. And... it was made before Google became what it is today (a prototype for a system to replace God, in which you can find all your answers).

  • He was at everettes lab

  • Was Stanley Kubrick the game designer of this?

  • As much as I explored the game being a perfectionist, I never found Morpheus and I really regret that.

  • I wish as much thought as they put into the storyline would've went into actually balancing the game.

When I'm playing it, I feel two things:

    1. Awe at the depth of the storyline and the amount of choices. It's almost a P&P RPG on a PC.

    2. Frustration at how there's one ideal way to level up and get augmentations in this game. The pistol is always the best weapon, for example.

Also, annoyance at missing EXP points because I didn't search every inch of the game world.

  • @vb4You With any RPG there is inevitably going to be one "ideal" way of progressing through the game. Sure, some skills and augmentations were underutilized, but overall the game did not punish you building the sort of character you wanted.

I have the same struggle myself when playing RPGs: should I do what's most cost effective and beneficial, or should I embrace the role and make decisions that might not be "optimal"? However the problem here lies with me, not the game.

  • @silverhammermba

Well, the question about actually roleplaying is simpel for me:

    P&P = Yes, RPG = No

As the game will most likely force me to do something out of character anyway if I try to actually HAVE one, I won't bother with it. In contrast, other players will normally appreciate proper roleplay.

(Though I must admit that I most often go the "be friendly to everyone" path until knowing the game enough that I can kill everyone without being afraid of backslash. No, I'm not like that IRL)

  • @silverhammermba like the swimming skill. People whined about how useless it is but building it up more and more makes later levels and secrets very easy to find. Every skill and aug will help in some way, even on the last level.

    Fucking love this game.

  • @vb4You Shifter mod. It gives you XP for doing amazing feats and killing or knocking enemies, RPG style.

  • @videosfromderelix

So shifter is actually playable. I considered using it multiple times, but somehow it seemed to be unfinished, judging by the description.

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

  • @vb4You most mods are "unfinished" in a sense because they are constantly worked on but the latest version I use and it is fully functional. All it does is tweak certain game elements. You get a small amount of skill points (it is more like XP now) for kills and even more for sneaking around enemies and you can now do things like throw regular knives instead of just special throwing knives. It doesn't ruin anything IMO just improves.

BTW you should try the nameless mod. Amazing TC mod.

  • in my opinion, the conversation in this game alone SHITS on any games out there (except for PlaneScape : Torment, MGS series and Xenogears.)

  • I agree with Morpheus on every single point. But I was expecting a black man.

  • @jungshin87 u mean morgan freeman

  • MACHINES

  • Impossible to describe the awesomeness of this moment. And of this game.

  • This just put it over the top.

  • mindblowing game, mind blowing scene, please dont fuck up the new deus ex:<

  • Has anyone uploaded the music for this conversation?

  • It's IBM Watson's great great grandson.

  • @darksparxxs Total Information Awareness (TIA)

  • @abram730 what about DARPA ?

  • @Aelkamal It was defunded by congress, but simply moved and changed names. It's still ongoing.

  • @Aelkamal i thought that was on Vanquish lol (cool game, doesnt got shit on this though)

  • This bit seemed much more striking when I stumbled upon it 10 odd years ago. Course I am forgetting that it was in the illuminati organization's building.

  • AI's got the point - people want to be observed and judged. These desires were satisfied by many gods, then by one God, then by other people (fame). This is why all this reallity shows with stars are so popular. Look at fecebook, twitter and other social portals. All you do is placing there your photos and commenting. Success of this portals is connected with that what AI says. Only smart individulas (like JC) are awere of danger of surveilance.

DeusEx motto: Question everythink. Trust no one.

  • @DareczekMistrzuniu

The Deus Ex Motto sounds kinda similar to Mulder's computer password...

  • Perhaps if A.I research made any significant breakthroughs this could one day become a reality, a future where some advanced A.I was able to process the information the wants and needs of every human being and ensure fair representation, a perfect democracy without the bias of human emotions like fear that spawn things like racism and hate.

  • They teach these sort of stuff at school for English. Schools should force students to play this game already, damnit

  • Ahhhh...Deus Ex, what a work of art. Tell me, if you can, another game that can so wonderfully weave together such a deeply philosophical yet badass narrative. I never hesitate to say this is the greatest game of all time.

  • @natevines - I know right? There was originally going to be a text parser conversation system, or whatever it's called. You could type it stuff and get Morpheus to respond. too bad it didn't make it.

  • @ToiletBomberAlpha We already have that, it's called Cleverbot. The problem was getting a voice of high-quality as Morpheus's rather than Microsoft Sam.

  • the beauty of this particular dynamic of the overall artistic genius that is deus ex is that this dialogue is a hidden gem.it is incidental to the plot, but for those willing to discover what this title really has to offer - mon dieu! it is something else. the first few times i played this game i wasn't aware of this. the moment i discovered it was like the first time daedalus engaged with me - the realization that you'lre engaged in something that is infinitely greater than the sum of its parts

  • "The need to be observed and understood was once satisfied by God. Now we can implement the same functionnality with data-mining algorithms."

    Wow.

  • Some phenomenal writing in that game.

  • "Are you made to invent riddles?" lol

  • Most WTF moment in any videogame. Great if you're not into organized religion or belief in supernatural entities you're supposed to have a personal relationship with. Odd to see it spoken by a blue half-face talking in a creepy voice.

  • Definately one of/the best games ever made, maybe even the best that will ever be made

  • can you tell me your FOV values plz?

  • There's a book called "Brief history of the future" by a french man called Jacques Atalli. In the latter chapters he speaks precisely about this very issue; people willingly embracing personal and omnipresent surveillance systems on the excuse of safety and order.

  • wait...JC *knew* he and his brother were engineered? I forgot that detail, even though i watched this convo when I played the game. huh, kinda makes later events less effective doesnt it?

  • Deus Ex, the best game of ALL TIMES. I like this little moment with Morpheus, because I don't understand NOTHING of the conversation.

Sorry for my English, but I'm a French "Prototype for a much larger system".^^

  • @jujuplayboy

Yes, the conversation is of a high level. Some things i do not understand quite well, but i don't speak english much still. So, i try my best to fully get the morpheus message. I disagree with some things, but that's what games are made for: Question something, critic something, entertain you AND make you think. All games. Even fps and sports games. (no trolling plz)

  • I'm playing Deus Ex for the seventh time. I've NEVER found anything deeper. Deus Ex is a true masterpiece... A real work of art...

  • The music is too loud.

  • Woah, very impressive quality. Thanks!

  • Such an enlightening conversation... there must be more games that have this much thought put into them.

  • @JerichoMcCoy Legacy of kain

  • looks fantastic
