@tascalam you are exactly right the sport is getting a bad name with all the head shots we dont need another allstar like savard have his career ended and almost every other contact sport has the same tolerance with head shots and shannahan has done a great job he needs to be strict so players will change

90% of you should just shut up, because you probably havn't played any good, full contact hockey in your life. It's simple, dont hit people in the head. Hit the body. There's a problem in hockey with head-shots, deterrence through punishment is the only way to change the culture that hitting the head is OK. And for fighting, both men involved in a fight are consenting to fight. Players are not consenting to get head-checked. Shanahan is a fucking boss and he'd one-punch all of you

So every time someone gets a penalty now its gonna result in suspension.Shanny never was in the physical play of hockey and he couldn't fight so how easy it is for him to through suspensions out on a trigger finger.He will ruin the game of hockey its gonna become a glorified game of soccer with a stick.

I don't think this should be a suspension. Hje was just skating by and ended up making contact. Now if he did this on purpose then I agree with his call but this looks like an accident not and intenttinal hit......

@iamstupid32 You don't understand that these hits can have consequences on the player's health for the next 20 or 30 years. I agree that there wasn't any intentions ( unlike the wisniewski hit ) but still you must remove these reflexes from hockey players.

@Hozalable My only "fear" is that hit like the brian cambell hit on umburger which hit his head but was the empitimy of a clean hit will be taken out which now leads to an NHL where your not punished for skating with your head down and cutting across the middle.....The whole physical aspect of the game will basically be taking out because now instead of guys just reacting to certain plays they will over think them and flat out wont hit the opposing player

@iamstupid32 ur right. This is all just leading to players being hesitant to even attempt to hit someone. If its a north south hit and the shoulder touches the head first (especially if a players head is already down) , there should be no suspension. I know there is onus on the hitter but there has to be equal onus on the puck carrier. The rule was fine last year. No east west blindside hits to the head. The new rule makes is extremely difficult to hit anywhere other than along the boards now.

@Hozalable Plus yes I have read the reports And I understand what happens 20 to 30 years down the road and I Feel like the players do too which again they agree to when the sign that contract.....what needs to be taking out of the game is the lack of respect.......before the instigator there were alot less of these actions because you knew there would be BIG actions taken against you if you did something out of line now players dont want to hurt their teams so not much is done the dear is gone

@iamstupid32 @Hozalable Check out the hit of Oshie on Krecji, that was both physical and clean. You can hit anywhere on the ice, aslong as you don't intend to injure the player. So far, most players being suspended are random goons who will probably never make the NHL, so the number of suspensions will probably greatly minimize when the regular season begins, therefore we'll see much more physical (but clean!) hits again.

Besides, 2 pre-season games isn't anything. This was barely a suspension.

@matthewdonut I just watched the tj oshie hit on Krecji and by rule 48.1 principle point of contact is the head which oshie his on krecji that would get suspended...which is BS those kinda things you cant avoid.....head injuries happen in a tough game...instead of punishing these kinda hits the NHL should Impose larger punishment on the plays from behind and late hits rather than "hits to the head"
