  • you people who dislike this are all messed up... I mean wth is wrong with u, you guys are are all: "we can't go to the beach because some birds are nesting" that are all going to die because of your carelessness, and btw I don't go to beaches. Have some sympathy guys and wth is with all the videos about why plovers are bad, imagine someone saying that an animal that you like is the worst.. how would you feel einsteins?

  • by that island i mean hatteras island NC.

  • i like piping plovers... UNDER MY TIRES! FUCK ALL YOU DAMN ENVIRO HIPPIE FACISTS! You are trying to save a bird but youre KILLING AN ISLAND OF PEOPLE! Wake the hell up!

  • fuck the fascist enviromarxists !!!!

  • Piping Plovers are so interesting. I monitor these birds on occasion, but they don't last very long. I have yet to see a chick make it to adult hood.

    Work well done. Great video.

As for negative comments, and people complaining about loosing a tiny area of the beach--there's a word for your attitude, it's called speciesism. Look it up.

If there are no birds,or bees to pollunate the flowers, this will create a domino effect on the food chain. Meaning, all humans will also become extinct.

  • Please, in these nesting areas, do TNR on feral cats. While cats are not the only problem, the effort will be appreciated. Momma cat teaches her young to hunt on helpless nestlings, and there are colonies in the Cedar Beach area. Please just be mindful of all creatures and do not just feed the cats, as this will not stop them from hunting these little birds. Make the TNR extra important in the dune areas. ......Thank you.

  • These Special interest groups are twisted hypocrites they want to "save the piping plover" yet hundreds of other wildlife are being killed. Closing access to beaches is complete overkill and is effecting the local economy and peoples livelihood. Go to preserve beach access to read more.

On Cape Hatteras Seashore 64% of beach are closed to access to all. Disgusting!

  • what do u do if u saw somebody trying to shoot one?

  • This video is deceiving in that it appears the barriers are a few feet in diameter whereas in Hatteras, NC miles and miles of beaches are closed. In addition, thousands of predators including raccoons, cats, foxes, or any other animal that threatens the birds are killed by the National Park Rangers during the nesting season in the protected areas.

  • thanks for the tip on food scraps and snacks! i'll make it a point to leave them nere the next dune i pass by!

  • I love seeing these little guys when I'm casting the fly rod along the shoreline, fast little buggers. The only thing that annoyed me about the video was Valerie acting as if she could bar access to the shoreline.

  • Power to the plovers! Obnoxious human beings on SUVs (and their dogs, and trash)are the problem.

  • Absolutely rediculous! The only problem this bird has surviving is that tree huggers need SOMETHING to wine about.

The world would not come to an ubrupt hault if we lost this stupid excuse for a bird.

  • No, the world would not come to an end if we lost this species, but it would fucking suck. Not only would we lose a fascinating and beautiful bird -one of the hallmark species of coastal dune habitat, it would a signify a failure to balance the needs of various recreational uses with the ecology of the area. What if one of the fish species you love catching so much was threatened with extinction and I made the same comment about them? Your comment was beyond ignorant.

  • @Plumcrazy1 I really hope that you are joking. If not you are an asshole!

  • @Plumcrazy1 One bird species by itself doesn't seem very important. The problem is the ever-lengthening list of threatened birds to which the plover belongs. We've instituted protections for everything from canada Geese and black skimmers to red knots and curlews. Habitat destruction if the culprit. I'm not a tree hugger. I know, however that the threats are real and directly connected, like overfishing, oyster bed contamination, and mercury levels in fish to human activity.

  • thanks for posting this, we have them on some beaches in the summer in Ontario to and a lot of visitors don't seem to get why have the beach is closed and they get all grumpy and start complaing

  • They taste just like chicken.

  • Great work. We need to have more vids of this sort to improve awareness of shorebird roosts, foraging and breeding activity on beaches which are also frequented by humans.
