  • come on,you can't of evented the whole thing,you wouldn't get the battle options or anytihng to come up if you use events

  • @TheLordofswords And just what the hell do you know? Yes, I evented the entire thing. Don't you dare try and downplay my hard work. It took a whole month of NOTHING but eventing the battle system.

  • @TheLordofswords I evented it. I'm flattered that you think it's impossible that someone could have done so, but I did. Hack the game and see for yourself.

  • @TheLordofswords The event control on VX is much smoother and more adverse than on XP.

  • in the rpg maker (I guess that's the software you used, is it?) the battle system is changeable in all the ways you want, if it is, can you post a tutorial in battle system changes.

  • lol Me to, I just played the trail, But i thought it was only 1 hour gameplay but you only have 1 hour to play the trial, There's Like a Time limit which sucks because I Had do to something All of sudden Trail Ended Im like Wtf

  • This is turning into a battle between oldskool gamers and neo-gen gamers. It shouldn't be.

    Retro gamers look for content rather then visually amazing graphics. I'm honest when I say I enjoyed playing Mario Bros. 3 ALLOT more then I enjoyed playing Fallout 3.

    It's not always about the graphics ..remember playing Tetris for HOURS and HOURS? I trust we all did. Games used to be addictive, lately it's all graphics and 0 content.

  • Even on solo projects, I've seen better, is what I'm saying. VX opens a lot of technological opportunities, whereas this person seems like they've reverted to XP capabilities. Why not just make the game in XP to start with?

  • I don't see what you're trying to say. He made a battle system out of events, and a pretty impressive one at that. What about this is so bad, and what "technological opportunities" is it neglecting?

  • What I'm saying is sure, it's fantastic that he made a battle system based from events.

    But people who play it won't be aware of that. They're more after the visual stimulation...and the one this represents is almost a direct derivation of XP's battle system. So why go through all the hard work of creating a battle system based on events when visually, you can do the same thing without much effort?

    I'm not saying this isn't a feat; it's great, it just could be done more easily and efficiently.

  • Because it's not about the visuals, it's about the mechanics. By what little I've played of Deadly Sin, it plays nothing like an XP game, at least in terms of battles. Yes, it looks a bit like XP's battle system, but why does that mean that it's pointless?

  • It IS about the visuals. A large portion of consumers who will play this probably aren't familiar with the RPGMaker programs, and thus would be amazed by this.

    I'm amazed too, but like I said, visually, it could be done easier. I'm talking about the battle itself. The amount of skills and other tedious bits are indeed a feat, but the in-game-battles, visually, can be done more easily simply using XP.

    I wasn't dissing the video at all man, I just wonder why he'd put so much effort in.

  • Visually, yeah, he could have just used XP's DBS. But then, well, then it'd be XP's DBS! Mechanics are MUCH more important than visuals. That's why making a custom battle system that looks kind of like XP's is a much better choice than just using XP and its DBS like hundreds of other games.

    Why should visuals be the only factor behind choosing whether or not to make a custom battle system? You're making it sound like Harmonic wasted his time making this battle system, and he really didn't.

  • Good point. I'm not saying it's a bad system at all, well..I really don't know what I'm trying to say. Haha.

    Here's what I'm trying to say.

    Now that I think about it, the only people who really play RPGMaker products are those that are experienced with or know of the program and have used it. However, when directed to the other audience of those that haven't, this wouldn't seem as impressive. That's the point I'm trying to get across.

  • If you were to play ANY xp game, and compare it to my battle system, it would be like apples and oranges.

    Mostly mechanically, but visually too! XP battlers are just these stupid translucent pictures of the characters, not fully animated sprites.

  • Well, what I actually meant by 'visually', was, yes, while XP's battlers are a joke at best, these aren't much of a difference. I'm not ragging on your script here, but look at this way; it's like, in 2003, where there was a side-view battle system and moving sprites involved. The characters even had an idle animation...these ones don't, and it makes the game seem, visually, a bit bland and/or lifeless.

    When you get to the spells, hell yeah it's all flashy, but other than that it seems dead.

  • This looks amazing. I love the fact that characters don't move that much. It gives the battle system this oldschool feel to it which I just love.

    Also the threat system looks very interesting (though it seemed a bit to easy to maintain threat on one character in this battle)

    So yeah, top notch. One thing though, please tell me you're not using VXRTP styled maps. Your battle system asks for a darker and more serious game. VX doesn't fit, it's just to cute for this battle system.

  • Intriguing battle system. The Animation is slightly choppy, but it was expected. Adding in another frame or two should fix it up a lil bit.
