@viewitnow my mom says she loves the books too and they are so much better. but my dad coudnt get into the first book. i still think the movie is pretty cool! but no movie is ever better tahn a book.
Remy, you inspire me! A couple of years ago, when I lived in Japan, you inspired me to try miracle fruit. Today, at my local supermarket here in Beijing I spotted the Sichuan peppercorns and thought of this video and bought some - it was just as you've described! Last weekend I went to the Wangfujing Snack street and had some fried stinky tofu - it smells vile, but I think you should give it another shot! There's a post on my blog about it at noiamnotaladyboy(dot)blogspot(dot)com - check it out!
@grobania o man this is awesome!! thank yoU!! and those skewers of things on you blog are crazy. i am going to figure out how to sign up for your blog...
Can't believe you just ate a handful of those. American palettes don't have a spice quite like this one. Also known as hua jiao or 'flower pepper', sichuan, or also called pricklyash, I reccommend eating one before buying a huge jar. Hahahaa
lol! thank you!! my mom loves that book too my dad likes the movie but he says he cant read more than 10 pages of the book before it hurts his head. i havent read it yet but i will some day but man i love that movie.:)
I use szechuan peppercorns in a lot of my cooking, I mix them with black peppercorns in a pepper shaker. But I never tried them on their own like that until after seeing this video. I tried about a teaspoon full. To describe it, it kind of tasted like potpourri, very flowery and fragrant. That whole side of my mouth I was chewing it on felt numb, and there wasn't any pain. It had a lingering effect of tart, felt more like how sourness feels than spiciness.
Yeah, my mouth was watering, but it wasn't very noticeable at first. It really felt like the more saliva I had, the better, cause it helped to alleviate some of the tartness.
And it does go great in food. Szechuan chinese food is some of my favorite. In meaty dishes with chili peppers and szechuan peppers, it has the full rich spicy flavor that really amplifies what your senses feel as opposed to other regional spicy dishes that use only chili peppers.
@FoodOddities Your a such a cool and cute kid. I found your videos when I looked up what Poi is. I will look forward to more videos. Just dont eat Habaneros yet.
Isn't the szechuan peppercorn related to the clove? it has a similar numbing effect but more of a flowery fragrance instead of the feeling of your mouth burning.
I'd never heard of szechuan peppercorns before today. Your videos are quite an education! I'm not sure I'll be trying this particular oddity though - things that react weirdly in your mouth always freak me out a bit.
lol! i think iwas:) or i was gettin g ready to complain about trying to look in pain over and over again!!
its realy is a weird one each bite is like licking another battery! i have such a big jar i should send some in evenlopes to everyone who subcibes i have enough!:)
LOL, that's a nice idea, but I'm not sure your parents would be too happy at having to pay 290 lots of postage - especially since many of your subscribers (like me) live halfway around the world.
[Note to self: must watch Dune again. Haven't seen it in years.]
Try looking up crackseed instead it's hard to find them under the hispanic name for them. Basically they are salted plums, there are different types of them though, some ae sweet some not some really sour.
it is weird. you mouth goes numb and start watering so much and tingling so you go oh no hot peppers and you want to drink water to cool it off.but then if you think about it it doesnt hurt it is weird
LOL! Remy Muad Dib! I love Dune! As a kid I was very, very into reading lots of sci-fi! And Herbert got the idea for Dune from seeing the huge sand dunes on the southern Oregon coast where I was born!

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
