What is called "trash can" should be called "organic waste disposal unit". That's what smells bad, that's what you want to dispose of. All materials that aren't organic can be stored elsewhere until they are taken to recycle booths. Only what isn't organic or recyclable should go the landfill, those are the only items that should be called "trash".

@SuperRussianQueen No problem. I currently work in a landfill in Illinois, and it is far, far cleaner then the one Mike was in. My job is to pick up the paper and blow-away material dropped by garbage trucks, put it into giant yellow bags, and watch it eventually get converted into methane burnoff.

The only part of my landfill that stinks are the dirty diapers that come in. Otherwise, it really isn't that bad.
