  • It's a cool idea but I would end up throwing the clock out the nearest window

  • Hey i need urgently a clock like this because I have problems to wake up and i live alone. I dont understand anything about eletronic so I dont know built a clock like this. Could you sell me one please?

  • I need this so badly.

  • I wanna buy it.

  • hmm interesting concept

  • what kind of crazy is this...

how the hell would anyone be able to solve math problems early in the morning...

  • Man, this is the solution to my sleeping in problem. Well done man!

  • It's more funny to beat shit out of this clock instead of counting :D

Like "Shut up!!! Take that you bastard" and throw it out of window.

  • I wonder what happens if you get the answer wrong...

  • i'm surprised there aren't many clocks like this one. I don't need a loud alarm that i'll immediately shut off, I need one that will force me to stay up

  • wow, mass market this shit!

    = D

  • OK, I could probably build this, given enough time and patience, and I understood what you were talking about with the shift register etc even though my degree is computer science not E.E., and I definitely get that having to use your brain to solve arithmetic problems helsp to wake you up due to the mental stimulation.

Having said all that though, I fear my emergency OFF switch would take the form of a 5LB sledge hammer strategically stored right next to the alarm clock.

  • Awesome invention. Ignore the people who scrutinize, they're not half as creative.

  • Hmmmmm this is very clever, but if your going to bed so late and waking up so tired that you need this, other than a gentle reminder, then something is wrong with your life. The fact that people are creating things that are short cuts to the waste bin to entertain the notion that living wrongly, is also "screwed up".

  • I like the clock! I have built a few different circuits using the 16F84 chip. Just curious, did you program in picbasic or pic assembler? Are you banging the bits to the display serially or as parallel words? Also, what is the clock frequency you are using for the chip? - tnx Mark Z near Lowell Indiana

  • You should sell these things.

  • I want an alarm clock I can throw across the room and not break it. i hate alarm clocks with a red-hot passion. Time itself sucks. Keeping track of it is what causes cancer. Nice work though...

  • i had a football-alarm clock

i had to throw it at the wall to make it stop

  • Neat idea. All alarm clocks need to be thrown up against a wall - very forcefully, or at least until they break into tiny little pieces.

  • the LAST thing i want to do first thing in the morning is math

    good idea, anyway.

  • voice annoys the crap out of me

  • I'm annoyed by worthless pieces of shit like you

  • Don't you mean "I'm annoyed by wowthless piethes of thit thike you

  • hahahah

  • good job! i had the same idea but no clue how to build it. could you please send me a copy to Germany? ;-)

and don't worry about comments like the ones from Anukriti1996 or lateddie. they're just jealous because they're not able to build something like this or even to solve the exercise in the vid. keep up the great work!

  • thats cool

  • if u want a good idea. just put ur alarm clock on the other side of ur room so u have to walk to it to shut it off and get a timer and put it on a lamp so every morning the light turns on at the same time.

  • you sould build one to with the off switch inside and you have to take the screws off to shut it off took just as much time to answer the question!

  • I guess this is along the line of what google does to make sure we are really awake when we send an email (turned off by default).

  • Is this alarm clock shock resistant? This could be another gadget people could easily be smashed not able to answer the trivia questions in time. lol

  • i dont even want one, I NEED this.

  • i wan one

  • fell asleep watching that shit, only 4 screws

  • that's a really good idea

  • Awesome clock! Is it possible to lower the tone of the alarm and to increase the time interval?

After I built one myself this will prevent me from sleeping into my future.

  • very stupid clock :P i would rather throw that shit against a wall than trying to solve those math problems... taking a nap wins math solving in 10 - 0.

  • Now there's one of those devices thats gona get chucked across the room on some mornings. Glad you posted the schematics, ppl gots make a few of these for that reason. lol :)

  • ok now after I've called down and taking it as a very strange coincidence... how much did all the parts cost to put it together, i see it's open source and i wouldn't mind making one ;P

  • This has majorly freak me out..

I was looking on you tube for alarm clocks... i watched a couple of alarm clock videos.. the flying clock, fire alarm clock.. then went in the kitchen to get a drink... I thought what about an alarm clock that asked a maths questions so you would be awake by the time you solve the problem... then i came back on the computer still pondering the idea of a clock that asked you maths questions..then the next link i click is my idea i had or at that time having

  • umm that would make me miss things cuz i would be doing the math

  • FUCK THAT SHIT!

I'm late enough to school as it is. . . I don't need to be trying to solve math problems to make me even more late.

  • That is a nice DIY clock

  • i don't like doing math in the morning

  • hahahah cOOl ! congratulations

  • Wow I have to make this. This is the solution.

  • Holy crap.

    ...

    Holy crap. That's awesome.

  • Thanks! And thank you for spelling things correctly ;)

  • I'd be ashamed to call myself Mr. Spellcheck if I didn't. ;)

  • nerd alert!

  • I'm not a nerd, I'm a geek ;)

  • lol i was jk ^^

  • lol i was jk ^^

  • @nicholaspauljohnso Same thing. and besides, who cares!? Were taking over the world.

  • @nicholaspauljohnso Someone actually understands the difference! :D Love the clock, bro. <3

  • Man, this is exactly i need to wake up!! Lol!

    Excellent idea! Congratulation!

Please, tell me how i can build a clock with that by PM.

    Thanks and greeting from Argentina!

  • Dude you suck at math...

Like seriously sometimes I wear my clothes, turn the alarm on and then take a short nap on a couch. At the exact time when I have to leave. So this stupid crap clock will waste all my time and then I will get fired.

  • What does that even mean?

  • Well read it acrefully and if you don't get it then use a dictionary...okay

  • I tried, but I can't seem to find words like "acrefully" in the dictionary.

  • my buddies have used my account to comment. but as far as i care you can shut the fuck up. this video was a fuckin useless waste of time. so useless that it dont deserve to be rated by me.

btw, good to know that you know how to check words in a dictionary, but judging from the fact that you bothered to look up "acrefully", when it obviously was simply a typo, shows your absolute lack of brains as was already proved by this video

  • Your time must be cheap, since you keep wasting it. But, it's your time, spend it as you wish.

Oh yeah, I read your profile and wanted to let you know: pro wrestling is fake. But you're clearly smart enough to have realized that.

  • By the fact that you changed the topic shows your lack in debating

  • ok... you can have the title as master debater

  • this would be smashed against the wall first thing in the morning...what a "waste of Time!"

  • well done ;)

  • this would be smashed against the wall first thing in the morning...what a "waste of Time!

  • You are about the 750th person to leave some variation of the alarm smashing comment.

Try to be a little original.

  • gr8 jo m8

  • So the µc is driving the speaker alone. These small cheap chips are super.

This is probably a great microcontroller-project for beginners (like me) to learn with.

Since it`s open source and we can fiddle aroun in the source code.

  • Who the hell wants to think in the morning? My mind is focused on sleeping and hating work.

  • This wouldn't work for me. When something wakes me up, I get very angry. And this thing not only wakes you up, but also asks you to do counting. How can you stand it? I would break it the firs morning.

  • Does is have anti-vandal case?

    No?

Then it's no good for me :)

  • Perhaps. The choice was made because of the limited number of I/O pins on the microcontroller.

But you know what they say: if you want it done right, do it yourself.

  • I thought it was a an excellent way of answering a fairly complex math problem. I liked to overall design too :-) Proper job!

  • Fairly complex? That? Really? Come on.

  • would u make a second and sell it to me if so how much?

  • @iamschloss: He isn't entering numbers with up/down keys, he's changing numbers with up/down keys. You use the OK button to enter the number.

  • nice! you should add a feature where you have to solve more items the longer you take to wake up XD

  • This is a great way to get your gears turning in the morning! Good work!

  • looool, but when i get up i am very lass for resolve maths exercises!!!!!!!!

  • thats pretty sweet, but i think i may end up breaking it by throwing it on the floor on a sunday morning when i don't feel like thinking due to the excessive amount of alcohol consumption from the night before! :)

  • cool

  • extraordinar de handicapat a fost acela care a inventat aceasta porcarie(ROMANIA)

  • As everyone already knows, doing math makes you tired. This alarm clock would put you into an endless loop, a Groundhog Day syndrome if you will.

  • Very cool!

  • its cool that u created the clock, but math in the morning....

thats a bit painful. how about something simpler that would invoke cognitive thinking. i like the idea of a sprouting puzzle, where u would have to reassemble the pieces. or even easier... put the alarm clock on the other side of the room. by the time u make it back to bed, ur already up.

  • I had a similar idea a while ago, because I'm never able to get out of bed during weekends (I sleep until noon :()

However, I didn't have the knowledge to make this.

You surely did, and it looks awesome! I might give it a try, but I'm not too familiar with electronics.

  • I would love to do this project but I have no idea how to start. Did you have to make your own board?
