First MLB game I ever attended was in this ball park on May 16th 1971, which turned out to be a bitter-sweet experience as I watched the Reds get clobbered by the Expos. I was 8 years old.
I saw the 2nd game at Riverfront, July 1st or 2nd (don't remember), Reds vs Braves. The great Wayne Simpson pitched a complete game. God, it was so hot that night.
As an ex-Norwood guy who moved to Fl in 2001 I have great memories of ol' Riverfront, how can you not, The Big Red Machine, the magical night that Pete returned in 1984 vs the Cubs, the Bengals Freezer Bowl game. Seems like they just built the place, but alas-----
i live in cincy and i remember standing on my schools playground hearing that echo throughout the city. i dont remember the old statium but i still miss it because it was part of my childhood, but the new one is great too
I can't believe it was torn down. I remember Crosley Field, seeing baseball there, seeing the Beatles there! Then Riverfront Stadium was built. Glad I have a nice framed pic I took from the River before they did this.
very sad...I went to some games there as a kid too, in the late 80's back with Sabo, Buddy Bell, Larkin, and Pete Rose- Mgr. Riverfront, you are missed
Barry Larkin did not hit his 1st major league grand slam until 2001 against the Mets in Cincinnati. It took him like 6,800+ at bats to accomplish this.
Wow. I never saw this. It's sad to see it go. I first went there to a Reds-Braves game in 1973. I saw Don Gullett (my hero) hit a HR vs. the Pirates in the 1975 NLCS game 1.
Riverfront will always be my stadium. I was so comfortable there. I'll never forget the first time the bright green astroturf came into view. I saw a lot of baseball in that place. A lot of bad baseball too but I loved it all.
biggpapi09 has NO CLUE on what he is talking about, and needs to learn to spell Cincinnati correctly.
He gets an F+ on his baseball history (1869 start for Red Stockings was right, as was Boston and Milwaukee being the early homes of the Braves), and an F on his spelling.
I don't even live here and it's sad for me to see, but is that the new one next to it?Because I'm coming over to see The Rock Show Paul McCartney

And with that goes the last shred of greatness that once was the Reds.

I have gone to a few games as a kid to Riverfront and even then I thought it was garbage. New ballpark is the bomb.

so sad. saw my first game here in 95, 8 years old. Barry Larkin hit a grand slam against the Astros and Ron Gant hit a two run homer.
