I have found the best way to get my katanas to be RAZOR sharp, does not really involve those things at all; I used nothing more than a chef's knife-sharpening rod. It does wonders. It's so simple, but so efficiant.

Except that a katana shouldn't be 'razor sharp'. A true razor sharp edge is far too brittle for a blade that size, it'll shatter against a hard target, leaving your blade with countless chips

Well I know I don't go swordfighting, so that really doesn't matter. And I don't attempt to cut hard surfaces, or really any surfaces for that matter. I take good care of what I have.

That's besides the point, if you oversharpen it, you compromise the structural integrity of the blade and thus, it loses its value.

Also, did you use honing oil, or at least keep the sharpening rod cool? Its not so bad for none automatic sharpeners, but still happens, the heat generated from the friction can really fuck up the heat tempering on the edge of the blade

Ok, for the last time dude, they are for decoration ONLY. I don't care if the blade ends up losing it's ability to withstand contact with harder surfaces. They are strictly decoration, that is all. I just like to have them sharp; sue me.

It's a stupid idea to sharpen a blade which is for decoration. Are they even handforged? If not, its an even more stupid idea. The last thing you need is to have a sharp blade that will break if you or anyone else suddenly decide to swing it and cause some serious damage.

Oh, they are all hand forged and heat-tempered. I sharpen them because I believe if I own a samurai and ninja katana, they must all be very sharp. That is me, not you. If you don't want to recommend it to others, then don't. But I choose to do what I wish with my belongings. I appreciate your concern, eventhough you are apparently more concerned with the welfare of the swords, rather than my well being, owning the swords. Now I have told you I keep them sharp, you don't like it; too damn bad.

Actually, it has everything to do with your well being. If for example, you had a lack of knowledge about swords and was in possession of a wallhanger( like many people are), and sharpened it, you could cause serious injury to yourself or others. I'm not trying to be a prick or anything here, I've just heared way too many horror stories about replica blades flying off the tsuka and causing massive damage, more so due to them being sharpened.

And I'm saying, I know much more about collecting katanas AND using katanas than you think. I don't want to get into that story though. Regardless, I collect them; I sharpen them. Do you advise a guy collecting guns to never load one ever no matter what? Maybe they wouldn't want to, since firing the gun would lessen it's value or whatever you admire in a collectible weapon. But being mine, if I choose to sharpen them and knowing what I know with katanas, I'll do just that. I now bid you farewell

You cannot damage the heat temper on a katana with the little amount of heat that may be generated. Now it is stupid to use anything but stones, sanding blocks or strops to sharpen a good blade, but unless you're heating it over 700 C, you won't ruin the temper. You cannot take off enough metal with these techniques to ruin the integrity or geometry of a katana.
